Ed, Ed, Ed... Winding down in the evening, either in the car or at home... you can't get any better than "Riviera Paradise". Just one of those gotta stop and listen songs IMO.

Yeah, a definite gem. His cover of 'little wing' is also a great piece.

Thanks!
I like a lot of the artists on your list, and haven't heard quite a few of them, i think i'll sample them when i get a chance..

Tennis and music are two of the things that make like worth living.

I tend to listen to songs I'm working on learning to play on guitar and sing along. Currently: Several songs performed by but not written by Judy Collins...So Begins to Task, Che, The Moon's a Harsh Mistress. Good stuff!

all time favs:
linkin park
system of a down
blink 182

fav at the moment: the used!!! omfg has anyone heard this band? they r awsome!!!

Just picked up Eric Johnson's new "Bloom" CD, and am about 6 tracks into it so far. Have also been listening to Mark Knopfler's "Shangri La" CD recently.

blech. No offense intended, of course, as everyone seems to be touchy about the music they like...

I don't really like any of those bands, except system of a down, at times. They're not too bad.

The used is a band that was good about a year or two ago, but they get old REAL fast, as i'm sure you have yet to find out. They're way too screamy, and aren't exactly a pleasant listen. Linkin' park is a bit screamy, too, although they're an OK band, i happen to dislike much of their stuff.

What other bands do you like? Maybe i can recommend you something :D

U2, STP, Scott Weilands CD is suprisingly good, Bjork, Sneaker Pimps, Tricky, System of a down, Foo fighters, anything good really.

I like Tom Petty for the first five minutes of the car ride. Then I switch over to something loud and pulsating. Lastly, I switch to girly POP music that I rock out to at intersections and the people next to me have a great time watching me make a fool of myself.

oh, come on... doesn't everyone do that? :P

As far as the Beatles go, many people have trouble listening to their recordings since the right and left channels are so separated (headphones... it's unnatural and the brain must merge the two channels together, which for some people is fatiguing!)

Yes, everyone DOES do that. I usually end up making a lot of people smile just because I dance in my seat while I'm driving and I can't sing for the life of me. Also, I don't stop rocking out when I catch someone looking at me, which makes it even more hillarious.

What?!?!? NO Death Cab For Cutie, or WEEZER!!!!!!!!!!!!! =w= ^_^

and Tenacious D, they f*ckin' rock my motherf*ckin' socks off

Spitalfield also doth verily rules

haha, I do it, but i don't really pay attention to see if people are looking at me... at stop lights i typically stop groovin' ;D

Re: go_nadal, i've got a list of bands i like up a bit in the thread ;D

dark_knight: I prefer the postal service over death cab, but maybe i haven't sampled enough of their stuff ;D

I dislike weezer except for a few select songs... anyone that knows weezer probably knows the songs i'm talking about.

Tenacious D is pretty freaking hilarious, they're not on my top 10 list, though :P

My song collection on my computer is extremely diverse, ranging from classical, to hard rock, metal, rap, pop etc... with other 5000 songs of them.

As for a song I'm listening to right now:

Bon Jovi - You give love a bad name
Bon Guido - You give rock a bad name.

(no personal offense divito, I just can't stand that no-talent posser Jon Bon Guido and his sidekick Ritchie Samguido)

Diredesire, you might also like (assuming you've not heard of them before):

Chikinki
Razorlight
The Libertines
22-20's
Bloc Party
Futureheads
Ordinary Boys
Dead 60's
Dogs Die in Hot Cars
Interpol
Taking back Sunday
Sublime
Super Furry Animals
Gliteratti
Maximo Park

Anybody see The Who at Live 8 - freakin awesome.

Also, looking at these lists it seams the Brits have music sewn up, most American bands are all Greenday wannabes and all sound the same at the moment, except the Bravery who are good.

Sugarhill Gang. I know they aren't the first in rap, but I'm just into the catchy "old-school" rhythm.

For that matter, I heard John Mayer once. He was pretty good actually.

I also don't mind the blues. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Can't go wrong.

I actually havne't heard a ton of those bands...
I've heard: interpol, taking back sunday, sublime (meh.), Super furry animals. The rest i am not familiar with. I'll make a note to check them out, thanks a ton!

Daddario: Check out Ugly Duckling ;)
They're sort of hip hoppy but they've got an old-school style. They're kind of cheesy, but i find myself listening to them every once in a while, and i don't favor the hiphop/rap flavor :D

Thanks for the recommendation. :D

I haven't heard so many of these bands/musicians. Helps point out I'm kind of out of date.

I just heard that song "1985" by Bowling for Soup. Anyone heard it? It was sort of catchy, but nothing great. LOL, I felt like crap. 1985 is NOT old. :P And I think I just learned from the song MTV doesn't play music. But isn't it "music TV"?

Help me out with this generation gap.

Man, MTV should be sued for false advertisement... They really dont' play that much music, and when they do, it's abbreviated music videos that last at best 2 minutes long on TRL. The rest is "real life" shows... just a lot of drama and sexual tension with the occasional *** guy. It is borderline braincell killer.

MTV2 plays music... which is funny. it should be the other way around. There are other music channels that are much better.

Diredesire, i'll give you a list of some of the punk bands (and others) i listen to. I like bands with energy with songs that are pretty catchy. I noticed you said you were listening to the distillers. They are one of my favorite bands.

Suicide machines, rancid, op I (operation ivy), the unseen, 7 seconds, propagandhi, snfu, thrice, anti-flag, the vandals, dropkick murphys, sublime, less than jake, catch 22, stiff little fingers, screeching weasel, reel big fish, nofx, lostprophets(the fake sound of progress, NOT start something), leftover crack, goldfinger, descendents, bad religion, afi, system of a down, sum41, social distortion, the swinging utters, mad caddies, the mighty mighty bosstones, rage against the machine, pennywise, lagwagon, lars frederickson and the *******s, guttermouth, dead kennedys

If you like emo maybe try the used, my chemical romance, and i dunno whatelse because i don't listen to much emo.

Ah, thanks (this includes everyone who is participating in the thread, of course) for the recommendations!

I like more than a few of those bands, but many of them are a bit too 'hardcore' for me, and get tiring after a while. It's funny, since i like start something haha.

A lot on my playlist but Bjork and Four Tet gets a lot of airplay...and still think Prodigy's Fat of the Land is one of the best ever....headed to Iceland in October for the Iceland Airwaves...

Okay thats not the same song, but I think those are probably the two worst lines in recorded music history.

Glad to see another Death Cab fan. Pretty much my favorite band the last few years. Also in order of play time on my mp3 player:

Metric
The Shins
Snow Patrol
Wilco
Arcade Fire
Mae
Kaiser Chiefs
Postal Service

lately i've been listening to a variety of stuff...Kaiser Chiefs, the Bravery, Postal Service, and the new Alkaline Trio album 'Crimson' is pretty good.

I'm looking forward to the new Rufio album coming out errr, next week.

And i really like Beck's current single 'girl'. best Beck song i've heard in a long time...i'll probably end up getting that album too.

Man, i haven't ever met another alkaline trio fan... I haven't heard ANY of their newer stuff though, i'll have to look into it... thanks for reminding me :)

offspring are catchy at times but too annoying to have any play time in my list. They're just noisy sometimes, and i'm typically not in the mood for that. I prefer more vocals, less screaming, unless the band has a good sound, which the offspring has nothing that stands out in my mind.

Switchfoot is not bad, the voice kind of makes me sleepy ;) their entire album has the same sound signature which ISN'T a bad thing, but their tunes don't do anything for me especially good.

3doors down = some good, even great songs, but again don't really do anything for me
Killers = cool band, haven't listened to them enough, but catchy

Coldplay is classic, always liked them.

Never heard of grinspoon.. interesting

3 days grace = i like a few of their songs, but they're a fatiguing listen.

Never liked U2 for some reason, and for some people... there goes my credibility ;D

The Gorillaz are way cool, they've got a good sound that keeps the foot tappin'

I LOVE Alkaline Trio!!! They're easily one of my favorite bands.

I'm listening to the new Bloodhound Gang. BHG is great, I love them too. Which means I either have no taste in music, or I have a horrible, low-brow sense of humor. Or both.:D

New songs I can't stop listening to:

1) Audioslave-"Be yourself"
2) Lifehouse-"You and me"
3) Rob Thomas-"Lonely no more"
