What music are you listening to? v1.0

Yea, i think Sigur Ros is pretty good, but I much prefer Godspeed You Black Emperor or Mogwai as far as that genre is concerned.

Oh yeah, some of my favorite artists in no particular order.

I guess you could say i'm kind of an indie kid.

Metallica
Radiohead
The Flaming Lips
Fugazi
Wilco
XTC
Built to Spill
Drive Like Jehu
Sonic Youth
Neutral Milk Hotel
Slint

offspring are catchy at times but too annoying to have any play time in my list. They're just noisy sometimes, and i'm typically not in the mood for that. I prefer more vocals, less screaming, unless the band has a good sound, which the offspring has nothing that stands out in my mind.

Switchfoot is not bad, the voice kind of makes me sleepy ;) their entire album has the same sound signature which ISN'T a bad thing, but their tunes don't do anything for me especially good.

3doors down = some good, even great songs, but again don't really do anything for me
Killers = cool band, haven't listened to them enough, but catchy

Coldplay is classic, always liked them.

Never heard of grinspoon.. interesting

3 days grace = i like a few of their songs, but they're a fatiguing listen.

Never liked U2 for some reason, and for some people... there goes my credibility ;D

The Gorillaz are way cool, they've got a good sound that keeps the foot tappin'[/QUOTE]

yer um grinspoon is an australian band...they r good....

Australian hm? Sounds interesting, i don't think i've ever been into an aussie band, i'll have to check them out..

currently is:

Muse - Hysteria

i normally listen to:

Aerosmith (ahh - classic)
Goo Goo Dolls (pwns all :D)
Guns n' Roses (good too - you gotta love slash's talent)
Lynyrd Skynyrd (also pwns :))
Muse (they're ok a few songs...)
Nirvana (come on grunge...)
REM (good - I prefer the later stuff)
Red Hot Chili Peppers (very distinct sound - Live in Hyde Park PWNS!!!)
Tenacious D (gotta love it for the sheer comical brilliance - i.e. its very funny to listen to)
Travis (more poppy than rocky but still good)

by the time i've finished this the song has now moved onto:

Guns n' Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine

*headbangs* LOL!! hehe not really...............:)

rumstove, I'd highly recommend getting it.

well, that's all the convincing i need. I wonder how many vinyl copies of 'Guero' were made? I managed to find 'Odelay' on vinyl. the search is now on...

diredesire: be sure to give the new alka. trio song "time to waste" (their first single from 'Crimson') a listen. i'm sure it's available for download somewhere online.

Explosions in the Sky - Your Hand in Mine

Great band, and amazing song...one of my favorites on 'The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place'. You should check out the cool underground website <www.temporaryresidence.com> for some other cool bands, although if you know of Godspeed You Black Emperor, you probably have already heard of the site or some of the bands.

Also, another hip-hop recommendation would be Jurassic 5. And I have always like that song 'It's Tricky' by Run DMC after I heard it on the game SSX Tricky.

Reggie & The Full Effect - Songs Not To Get Married To

The weirdest cd I've heard in a long time, it's schitzophrenic. That's an understatement. I love it though.

Im lis10n 2 Better Alone by Melanie C lol.:D

Im sur Ill b the only guy 2 ever say dat lol.:)

just surrender and new yellowcard album (lights and sounds)<<<not as good as ocean avenue but still pretty good

Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin. Just watched the episode of Lost that has the song in it for the upteenth time, so I had to listen to the real thing.

Woman in Chains by Tears for Fears

They don't make music like that anymore - well what they make these days is noise, not music

Sure I was. I was singing as loud as possible cuz I just can't help it. I was in a christian rock band - playing the drums - before I came to Germany. I have to have my daily dose of music or else I'd perish. Music = Life. :)

I like that song "Dosta" by Parni Valjak. It's off their Zastave album. Not bad.

The score to KILL BILL. This Ennio Morricone composer dude is a genius. And the pop songs are actually good too and have a good variety coming from Japan, Mexico, Europe, America.

Back to the topic... Break the night with colour- Richard Ashcroft

As for music I'm listening to now, I've just discovered the wonderful indie-pop-rock band Architecture in Helsinki- their music is really bright, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Music is just like a racquet. Each one has his own choice and to say one is better over the other is childish

Like Hartzy, I'm currently listening the tar out of the Decemberists. God, what's not to like about them?

And, intermixed with that, some Death Cab and some Arcade Fire.

Screw the radio!

wow, this thread is OLD! :)

Glad people are still discussing the music, though!

I've been listening to aqualung and Zero 7 a lot lately, they're kind of mellow, and i have exams coming up, no need to panic... or... IS THERE?!?!?!?!

FYI Depeche mode made great music not only in the 80s, but until the very day of today, and they make so much different music throughout the last 25 years. And i hate sonic youth btw. LOL. But give me The cure, Mesh, Erasure and i will say yes please...

Yes, most English bands of the 80s (Duran Duran/Def Leppard/George Michael) still maintain atleast a hint of their style and still produce music and not noise. Wish Johnny Hates Jazz had put out more records..

Since the thread started a few more bands spring to my mind
Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster
VHS or Beta
Nemo
The Far Cries
IamX (Chris Corner from Sneaker Pimps)
Clap your hands say yeah

Yes, Sonic Youth not only started their revolutionary career in the early 80s, but are still making music (most wildly different from their early years) today.

I was in no way trying to disrespect your tastes- even though I'm not a fan of Depeche Mode, I respect your opinion. You most probably "hate" Sonic Youth because of their early sound, which was abrasive and noisy. Throughout the years, they developed a more consistent and melodic song structure. I would suggest that you take a listen to "Sister" which was their "tribute" to 80s mainstream pop.
