What music are you listening to? v1.0

Porno Graffiti was in my head for all of today. lol People looked at me weird when I started singing some of their songs :D (with style I might add).

I received as a birthday gift yesterday her latest offering ( from this moment on.) which didn't disappoint. She's also a top notch jazz pianist - man, if I had to do it all over again, I would of been a jazz pianist instead of a guitar player,
best..

Happy belated birthday Bluegrasser!! :p Hope you got everything you were hoping for. BTW.. what are your thoughts on Santana?? CC

I'm a rebel. I listen to stuff not most listen to. Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Shred stuff that some say doesn't involve emotion.

Currently playing; The Dave Brubeck Jazz Collection, Hada Brooks, redhot chili peppers stadium arcadium, Franz Ferdinand, Ok Go, BEP, Outkast, Jamie Cullum, Lupe Fiasco, Blue October, and before competing in anything LL's Mama said knock you out.

I've been listening lot of SunnO))) lately.

Particularly SunnO))) / Boris - Altar
The Whitest Boy Alive has also caught my attention.
There are also the mainstays like Elliott Smith, Iron & Wine, and Devandra Banhart.

The new Joanna Newsom CD Ys is awsome.

Love Santana , sometimes I play a backround track of some of his music and jam away. He really created a new style of music, his licks were new and fresh and great tone, especially his early stuff - as far as the birthday, lets put it this way, it had four legs and hair all over - a wiener dog

LOL - a wiener dog?? That's so great! I had a feeling you might be into Santana. :p

Cool - The 70's was a great period for R&R, heck, my kids listen to it.

Hey, you might like a newer band called My Morning Jacket. To me, they really have an authentic classic rock vibe. Their studio albums are pretty good, but they really do their damage live. Luckily they just released a double live disc recorded at the Fillmore West. It's called Okonokos. Not guitar god classic rock, but sort of sort of a southern rock feel with great songwriting. If you are looking for something new, give that live record a listen.

The other records I have recorded live at the Fillmore turned out pretty good...Allman Bros. and Zappa.

Mainstays:
ELLIOTT SMITH - can not make it a day without one of his songs.... all completely amazing. nobody else listens to him??? anybody? Buehler?
Kathleen Edwards
Son Volt
Blind Melon
Burning Spear

Thanks for the tip, I'll check them out - Youtube maybe ? - another great live album from the seventies is " Humble Pie ' Peter Frampton was playing lead guitar and was 18 at the time.

Presently: "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" --Ella Fitzgerald

Brettolius, that "Mothers-Live at the Fillmore East" is a naughty, naughty album (lyric-wise). I like Peaches en Regalia (originally on the LP "Hot Rats" which did win a JAZZ album of the year award from Downbeat), but oh!....the lyrics to those other songs/skits.....(click and drag cursor down) "....Listen you chicks! Didn't I hear you 'got off' being juked by a baby octopus and spewed upon with creamed corn, and that that your hair-lipped diko-bass playing girlfriend had to have it in the 'back seat' with a hot Yoo-Hoo bottle or she'd go ape-shlt; what's the deal baby?!!
"

"....I'm looking for a hot, gooey, steamy, ever-widening kind of a hole.... with.........with......eh, how can I put this...?

bluegrasser: ah, Humble Pie ("Rocking the Fillmore" and its signature romp "I Don't Need No Doctor." Big sound from little people (Frampton 5'2" and the late Steve Marriott, singer 5'1").

I gather you're a musician (piano?), and dig a bit of jazz, so if you get a chance (if you haven't already), check out a cat by the name of Michel Camilo. Has a few records out, mainly trio stuff, always has awesome players (the ones I really dig are Dave Weckl on the traps and Anthony Jackson on bass) Some straight ahead jazz stuff with a lil' bit o' spanish flair. Personal fave albums are "Rendezvous", "Suntan", and "Why Not". I love me some Chick Corea but I find Camilo to flow a bit better, a little more listenable. Plus he plays the good ol' fashoned acoustic piano, none of this keyboard with the "Pat Metheney-ish elevetor cheese tone" stuff going on. If you wanna hear some monster playing, start out with "Rendezvous". Killer.

Ella - sweet, one of my favs is : " Easy Living " - just Joe Pass on the guitar and Ella singing - outstanding stuff.

I just stumbled into this electronica group called Fischerspooner. Very solid I must say. They are on itunes if you want to check it out.

Royksopp is very good too. They are the ones responsible for that tune in that Geico commercial where the caveman is on the conveyor belt at the airport.

The Mountain Goats. Specifically, their last 2 albums, "The Sunset Tree" and "Get Lonely." Man, I'm a sucker for well-written lyrics!

Sadistic Mika Band
"Handsome" Dick Manitoba and the Dictators
Iggy Pop & Lou

- ANY Jewish musicians who have played CBGB date
(I see kids wearing CBGB shirts and just CRACK up)

Bloc Party - The Prayer.

The new album isn't as good as Silent Alarm but let's face it, that would be almost impossible. Silent Alarm was one of the best albums of the last 10 years without a shadow of a doubt, every song on it could of been released as a single if they wanted.

Not a bad follow up though.

Nice playlists, you guys. Good music on there. Better than what the guys in my grade at my school listen to... Rap... Bleeeccchh... I mean some rap is okay, but these guys only listen to rap... I really don't like rap. I like kind of old stuff, not much new stuff, like
- The Who
- Duran Duran
- KISS
- Judas Priest (legendary British heavy metal band)
- KC and the Sunshine Band
- Kool and the Gang
- The Kinks
- Queen
- Van Halen
- Jimi Hendrix
- Def Leppard
- Chuck Berry
- AC/DC
- The Sugarhill Gang
- The Ramones
- Aerosmith
- The Police
- Nirvana
- The Sex Pistols
- The Temptations
- Jackson 5
- H.M.K. Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand (he writes amazing jazz music; you can even download it if you search, there's a site on Google)
- Snow Patrol
- The White Stripes
- Foo Fighters
- Fall Out Boy
- Deep Purple
- ABBA

As you can see, I don't really listen to super-modern stuff. I listen to a variety of old music ranging from Punk-Rock (eg. Sex Pistols) to Jazz (H.M.K. Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand).

I pretty much listen to what I am playing on my guitar at the moment. right now I'm liking The Exies-Ugly, Tonic-If you could only see(great song!), and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Genius Bands

THE SOUND
RIDE
THE PIXIES
THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN
ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN
THE SMITHS
MY BLOODY VALENTINE
SONIC YOUTH
THE CLASH
THE BEATLES
