The L3 & L4 tournaments in Middle States (not 100% sure if Mid-Atlantic is the same) are the top level sectional tournaments before a junior starts getting invited to the Regional and National Selection level tournaments. In Middle States 16s or 18s, if you're talking about a kid who is consistently seeded and goes deep in these draws, you're looking at the equivalent of strong 5.0-5.5 NTRP (i.e. 4 or 5 star recruits who will be either D3 superstars or D1). Just to qualify is likely at least a strong 4.5 equivalent.

Below are some of the tournament this kid played.. and rounds he has reached.
Seems he is very good player right

If the naming of the tournaments is the same in Mid Atlantic as Middle States (and I say that because Eastern is totally different...), then I'd expect him to be at least a solid 5.0 NTRP equivalent.

I think I found the kid you're talking about. He's listed as a 4-star sophomore on TR, and he's played a couple National Selection tournaments and the Orange Bowl 14s a couple years ago, although without much success. Everything in his online history points to solid 5.0 NTRP equivalent, so you should have good battle on your hands.

I was smoked.. Had 4 break points but wasn't able to convert any. lost 0 & 1. The kid reached finals and even beat a futures player on the way.

Yeah before I saw your update I was going to say you should get smoked...but not to feel bad about it. He has good results.

What is your style? Did you try and junk him or S&V to throw off his (I'm assuming) strong baseline game?

A 4.5 playing a 5.5 will do well just getting a game or two, unless the 4.5 used to play at the higher level. And that game can easily slide to a bagel. Getting 4 break points is no small accomplishment, so you did well.

I play an all court game.. I moved him side to side with slices. I have good forehand and i cover the court well.he tried many drop shots which i was sneaked him all the time. But since i am a one handed BH he kept on hitting to my bh. Only weak link i have seen is that if we hit good top spin to his bh he just loops back. When ever i tried that he was on defensive.
After the match the buddy who was watching me said to me.. " why didn't you have your 2nd serve always on his BH and try more top spin on his BH...-- he said he had hard time in that".. but it was too late then. but its good lesson learnt.. the kids reached the finals and lost in the finals..he is just 16 man ..

Well, pounding the backhand side is the first rule of competitive tennis, starting around 3.5.
But, defending the backhand is also the first rule of competitive tennis, starting at around 3.5.
Gotta hit the forehand to open up the backhand.
And his high loopy defensive backhand might just be something he uses when tentative. If he was on his A game, he might just hit screaming corner shots from his backhand side.

In my eyes he is a close 5.5 player.
i defended well with my bh.. but in between since nothing was working for me.. i made lots of errors..
This weekend hopefully i have to correct that.

Recently for the past few months i was more hitting but was very less playing matches.. I would need to play more points.. and i played couple of matches since last saturday..
Need to get to the match rhythm.
