The 4 greatest years of the last 25 are obviously McEnroe's 84, Federer's 2005, Federer's 2004, and Wilander's 1988. The only thing that might seem obvious is that Federer of 2005 should fall behind McEnroe in 1984 since both won 2 majors, but McEnroe had the better match record by exactly 1 match, and that is even before the other potential considerations such as alot of players not playing Australia back then, etc....The other years it would depend alot on your personal criteria, 3 slams vs 2, what other things you value, etc....So what order would you put the 4 greatest years of the last quarter-century in?

You put no stock in Steffi Graf's Golden Slam? Or Naveratilova going something like 80-1 a couple years? (don't know the exact #s)

I think Federer 04 tops Federer 05 because he won 3 of 4 and topped it off with the TMC.

I wouldn't, but it's your poll.
So, we go by your rules.

Well when making a greatest players ever would you combine men and women too? Not saying it is right or wrong, just curious. My mistake was probably not specifying men in my topic header though.

why just include the last 25 years? why not start at the beginning of the open era in 72? i would put connors 1974 year above all of them. 99-4 record, 3 slams,(denied the grand slam only because he wasn't allowed to play the french). started a run of 5 consective years at #1.

Connors year of 74 was not in the last 25 years which is why I did not include it in the poll.

Federer 2004 has to be tops on the list IMO. After that, it is a tough call for the last 3, but Mac in 84 is above Fed in 2005 for sure.

I suppose I was just curious to see how people compared to those 4 particular years. If you like you could make your own poll for the last 40 years, or last 50 years, or whatever you like though.

Mac kicked ass in '84. He was so close to winning the French. He showed why if he trained more he could have been the best of all time.
