Depends where you play.

If you see a cheater, just confront them about it. They'll probably stop.

I suppose it does depend. But I think the percentage is fairly low, especially for those who purposely make bad calls. There are a few ladies in our league who have a reputation for making bad calls but in one case (she has been on one of my teams before  ) it's without malice. I think she should play with glasses/corrective lenses.

In fact, my experience tends to run the opposite. I "get" more calls than I expect. And I think it's a bit of the Golden Rule. If you give good calls, use the benefit-of-the-doubt theory....you'll get those things in return.

Yea ... I would say expect to see very few maliciously bad line callers and only a few more that require corrective lenses on a regular basis. I would put the total at less than 5 % (educated guess).

Since I hit my serve pretty hard I actually get more good calls than I deserve as my opponents frequently coment that "they cant call what they cant see". My serve should not be that hard to call, but on average I bet I get ten times as many in calls on out serves then out calls on in serves.

Most (>75%) of players and teams in my experience make what I consider to be questionable calls from time to time. If the question is how many are intentionally bad (i.e. they saw the ball land clearly in but they call it out), my experience says that the number is much closer to 1%. Most players are trying to make the best calls they can and will work with you when they miss calls (provided you're not trying to bully them into calling lines to your advantage).

Since I started playing again last year, I've played over 50 different people and not 1 of them were blatant cheaters. Sure, you see some bad calls here & there, but they are far outnumbered by the calls I get in my favor.

From my experience, the really bad cheaters are the ones that only do it on break point or match point. Happened to me last week. The first time he did it I got him to reverse the call because the ball left a ball mark. But on match point in the 3rd set at 4-5 40-30, my ball landed a good 6 inches inside the line and he called it out for the match and he wouldn't change it, even though everyone watching the match agreed that the ball was in. He has been reported to USTA with corroborating testimony from others watching the match, but I doubt anything will happen to him because he is ranked highly in the state and has been around for a long time. It really sucks, but there isn't much you can do about it.

I just make "really, really" tight calls on important points.

The rest of the time, I am quite generous in my line-calling.

You guys have to remember, the really crafty cheaters are not making bad line-calls very often. They'll even give you the point on some close balls. It's only on the big-points and/or the critical moments in a match when it's "just long" or "just wide" with these cheaters.
