since 2002 that wimbledon grass was changed a lot
court speed was damm slowed
and ball bounce was too high after that
and federer was victom
because court speed was so slowed and federer dosen 't like a slow surface

i don 't like even wimbledon used slower surface
this is not fair
if if wimbledon would return 90 's slick grass
novak djokovic will not wimbledon again
0 % chance
probably lost opelka at round 1

so what 's the add ?

Since 2001 indeed. Federe beat Sampras in a slightly slower grass. The new characteristics of grass were implemented at Wimbledon in the 2001 edition.
yeah , i think that 2001 wimbledon grass was little bit slower
but goran won in 2001
2002 was huge change of wimbledon grass

"Independent expert research from The Sports Turf Research Institute in Yorkshire, UK, proved that changing the grass seed mix to 100 per cent perennial ryegrass (previously 70 per cent rye/30 per cent creeping red fescue) would be the best way forward to combat wear and enhance court presentation and performance without affecting the perceived speed of the court. "

"Perceived speed of a court is affected by a number of factors such as the general compacting of the soil over time, as well as the weather before and during the event. "

Yeah, Federer was such a victim that he won EIGHT slams on that "ultra-slow" surface. And if he wasn't such a ninny and so petrified of playing Novak he'd have 9 or 10 by now.

Quite to the contrary, Federer was spared the servebots who could have sometimes thrashed him, and he was the first ATG to fully benefit from the homogenized era, which is why many mistakenly started considering him GOAT. Fans didn't understand that since the slowing down of fast surfaces domination became easier.

It isn't "damn slow". Compared to what, ice?

Clearly some users are way too young to know how AWFULLY BORING grass tennis was in the 90s, otherwise they'd feel embarrassed to post such nonsense threads.

In the golden era of Wimbledon, in a span of 11 years, Stich, Krajcek and Goran won, for their lone Slam titles. Why would any tennis fan want that again? Roscoe Tanner took Borg to 5 sets in '78! And obviously the faster the grass the more chances to Tanner!

It would be like, in last 11 years, Isner, Raonic, and Anderson all won Wimbledon titles! That would bring more prestige to Wimbledon than letting Federer and Djokovic dominate again and again!

Make no mistake, Fred was the first beneficiary of surface homogenization. All of the big 3 are overrated relative to historical peers tbh

Nah, on truly fast low bouncing surfaces you can’t realistically win when you’re that tall. Still need to be able to defend, return, retrieve volleys and drop shots, deal with slice.

Plus you could always limit racquet tech like every other sport limits equipment

Seems most tennis fans don't understand that.
Don't you know that Federer would be just as successful with his current strokes with a wooden racquet, natural gut, and long pants unlike those talentless hacks Nadal, Djokovic, and Mury who can only hit a ball because their racquets are larger? Nadal's is +3 sq in, and Djokovic / Murray's are -2 sq in larger. Unlike Nadal, who requires modern technology to hit with a straight arm, conservative SW grip forehand, peak Federer with his straight arm, conservative SW grip forehand would have no issue playing the same game and win 20 grand slams.

It will happen eventually.

I don't think it will.

The ATP just want baseline botting and see the ignorant love of their big 3 as justification for removing variety. Most tennis fans don't even understand what has happened to the game. It's easy to prepare courts for matches when no-one actually runs inside the lines.

It's taken less than 20 years to create a generation who don't know how to play all court tennis, in another 20 years there won't even be anyone who remembers it.

After the game is saturated with the current moneymaking hype "new" faucets of the game will be found. Going back to forgotten practices and conditions is a tried and true method of creating hype again. I think that it will happen eventually, even if is after a considerable amount of time. When the current benefactors from the hype are gone there won't be much reason for the things to stay as they are now.
