why rafa nadal consider skip 2020 us open ?
why ?
why let djokovic to win another hard court slam title ?

if if nadal really withdrew 2020 us open
that would be one of the worst mistake in nadal 's carrer
please rafa , just play in new york

Its a gamble that anyone other than Rafa will win Roland Garros, I mean you need to win THREE sets to beat Rafa at Roland Garros....
Do you know the total number of sets Rafa has dropped in the last 3 years? THREE!
The only way Rafa loses if he has a crisis of confidence (2015) or an injury (2016).

Rafa may feel obligated to play Madrid in these difficult times, and it would be very hard to play Madrid if you've just played the US Open (if you reach the US Open Final).
So he may skip the US Open for that reason, and also because of the virus if he doesn't trust New York.
In Australia they had a situation where the hotel security guards were leaving the hotel and going to McDonalds and then coming back into the hotel and going in elevators with guests.....so if New York have that kind of thing going on, it'd be very easy to catch the virus.

Last 2 years bro. He didn't drop any set in 2017

2019 = 2
2018 = 1
2017 = 0
Yeah but why count 2017 when he didn't drop set (or hardly games)??
His level of play was ridiculously different from his early years. Literally bludgeoning the ball and blasting everyone off the court.

Maybe because he doesn't feel it's worth risking his life in a scheissen-hole city to play in front of no people when he could be safe and sound on the beach in Mallorca. It'll be mayor de Louseio vs Dinkins in the final--mx'ed final BJK & Elton John vs AOC & RuPaul.

Usually Rafa would not want to play 3 tournaments in a row, but I can see a scenario where he feels that he's so underdone and rusty that maybe playing Madrid AND Rome would be the perfect way to prepare himself for Roland Garros.
If he decides to do that, of course he'll skip the US Open.
It would be a tough decision though, because he's got the chance to tie Connors-Sampras-Federer at the US Open, and a chance for 20 and 21 slams overall if he plays US Open and Roland Garros.

He values his health more than money, legacy etc?
Dr Fauci testified to the US Senate that the US 'led' by the bungling Resident Chump 'administration' is on track for 100,000 new COVID infections per day.
If the numbers are anything like that by the end of August I wouldn't set foot in the US either.

I suppose I can see both sides of it. If you win RG and get to 20 in this F-d up season, it's a success, obviously. That said, if it goes off the rails leading up to Paris, RG may not happen. To date, the players have shown themselves to be complete idiots during this pandemic. You cannot trust the other players to do the right things to make it through five tournaments. Additionally, RG allowing 60% capacity is a clusterfukk waiting to happen. Add it all up and Nadal should get on the court in New York and try to win it for the 3rd time in 4 years. It might be your only opportunity in 2020.

I believe New York is now one of the cleaner locales in the U.S.

The US Open should be held in Wuhan--China has handled this world wide pandemic scientifically from the beginning.

Prob not a skip if the tourney gets shelved, tho'. :censored:

Probably has something to do with the pandemic that the world is going through? Travelling to a place where it's a bigger problem than anywhere else? Like I'm sure he isn't flying commercial, but still. Long haul flights maybe not a great idea? This man of routine who stays in the same hotel every year probably doesn't want to stay anywhere else either? And if he has to go without taking his entire family with him as he loves to do at every major then he probably doesn't want to do that either? Maybe also after not having played in so long he doesn't want to be playing 2 majors in just over a month? I'm Ron Burgundy? Seems like there could be a bunch of reasons to me.

Nadal needs to win a Major this season to tie the all-time Grand Slam record.
Going to New York can be a problem, but as a professional athlete he has to take advantage of the opportunities that are presented to him.
Now more than ever!
:D

He's not skipping it. It's just mind games for Djokovic.

Just cannot see the Defending US champion passing the chance to capture #20.

Raga rusty on clay? Even a rusty Rafa is a heavy favorite on clay.

I think so. New York is unsafe and if Nadal infects Covid at New York, he will have to skip Roland Garros. This scenario will be worse than skipping USO.

With present situation, I doubt USO can be hold as expected.

It doesn't really make a difference, since Djokovic has only won THREE US Opens EVER.
Djokovic usually fails, regardless of what Rafa does.

Rafa has not made his schedule yet.

rafa said something about this which is pretty clear,, of course he wants to defend both the French and the US. he said parts of his body are going to hurt after getting back into playing actual tennis again. parts of my body hurt too.. i am older but he is a world champion. he can't play two majors in a month on two polar surfaces while also managing the strain on his wrist, elbow, knee, etc. as he returns to hopefully his best level after this long delay. throw in the covid stuff and the international travel. He could try to play both..maybe push himself in queens and still lose late in the tournament and then possibly the French as well.. as he admits he has to have his confidence at a high level to play his best. he should hunker down and just prepare for the clay while staying closer to home.
