What Shot Are You Most Proud Of?

I'm not looking for your best shot, necessarily. Or the shot that's most reliable or hardest-struck. I'm looking for the shot that makes you feel the most pride.

For me, it's the backhand overhead/high volley. At my lowly 3.0 level, no one can deal with a high volley/lob to the backhand. It's a guaranteed winner.

This last season I played the deuce court almost exclusively. There are a lot of high balls or short lobs that go down the middle, and I kind of learned how to hit these. Yeah, my backhand overhead/high volley isn't a winner; it's defensive. But I feel comfortable hitting it and I keep a lot of balls in play that would otherwise fall unplayed. I feel awfully pleased with myself when I make one.

Now if I could figure out how to put something on it . . .

I can't hit a backhand overhead so you got me there!

My forehand overhead and slice serve are probably the best parts of my game. Last Saturday in singles I hit like 20 overheads and 19 of them were winners and the other one kept me in the point as I was falling back. I take a big swing so most are moving about 100mph.

My slice serve forces lots of weak returns or shanks so it is very effective in doubles. It has more spin and more velocity than other slice serves I see around here.

I don't know why but I feel confident in half-volleys, this kind of relflex-shot. I'm not "proud" really but I'm happy to have good reflexes. Also my defense, many times people tell me that against other guys the rally would have been over long before, then I feel proud because it is my combattivity and will that is praised. A feeling Nadal must have quite often...

I must say my signature shot is my DTL forehand from inside the baseline. 99% of the time I can put it away with good depth and power.

Topspin crosscourt or inside-out forehand from the midcourt. I can get it up and back down, deep into the corner, with a lot of pace. Makes me feel good when I hit it!

Has to be the inside out forehand crosscourt - opponents find it hard to read and it's probably my most offensive and acurate weapon.

unreturnable serve (2 flavors)

1.) the occasional kick serve that bounces higher over the receiver's head at the baseline that can't be reached without jumping is always a thing of beauty.

2.) Also, the occasional softest shortest widest slice serve travelling at barely 60mph that leaves the returner standing flat footed helpless at the baseline wondering where did that come from?

My return of serve is so-so (dont really take to many full swings) so i just love it when i get one just PERFECT, you know what i mean whole lotta pace, right on the line or around it or if its the right serve a really short angled forehand return of serve. It's quite funny though cause without even thinking about it my return of serve has been getting ALOT better

Great question...the ones that make me feel like I've gone pro:

S&V put away...serve wide on the deuce court, volley taken on the BH side and put away cross-court. Harder to do as I get older and slower, but for me there is no better feeling when it works.

Close second...inside-out FH winner on return of serve from ad court. Clears the net by just a few inches with bunch of pace and lands deep in the corner in the opponent's ad court, beyond his reach. Even more fun in doubles w/the additional space in alley available. Love it!

my forehand going for the winner. I stand right on the baseline, find a shortball, start setting up the point, then slam that ball crosscourt or dtl. then I follow up with a YEAH SON! and a fist pump. No i don't actually say yeah son but I do fist pump.

my topspin crosscourt backhand , it just clears the net by about an inch and lands where the service line meets the side line , ofcourse am working on consistency rightnow it's about 50-60% successful ..

The shot that gives me the most pride is the down the line forehand. I love smokin that shot! Then it's fun to watch the opponent struggle for it. Love to watch their misery!

hum...
personally, i'd say that the shot i feel proud of when i succeed is my signature shot: the between the legs volley or half volley from which i can hit a dropshot or a deep volley and even a lob.
it gives me pride because it's a shot that will usually please any crowd.

I like getting opponents apparent winners with a mad scramble, down low stretch, and a deep forehand slice to some corner. It's a good way to deflate the other guy.

My best shot is my serve...but I do so love jumping up and putting away a backhand overhead. It isn't a shot that you see many people end points with. I'll usually do it with an extreme crosscourt angle, but every so often I get one I can line up and bounce over the back fence.

Since I'm lefty sometimes I go a little more western on my grip and drive a deep crosscourt forehand with lots of spin and then follow it in. I also have a pretty natural roller forehand(approaching with lots of spin and angle) which I really like.

Backhand slice approach shot down-the-line. I took weekly lessons for a year and a half from a woman who was the captain of her Division I team. And her coach (who, I'm told, also coached Alex Kim) used to make her practice over and over the backhand slice approach. I really didn't see much point in the drill. For one thing, it was kind of exhausting. Also, I felt I needed practice with my forehand (still do). But, at the very least, it gave me confidence to come in on short balls. And, I suppose, that's a good thing.

Anyway, I did a weekend camp at Northwestern University last summer. And one of the coaches, a kid on the men's team, ran us through some -- you guessed it -- backhand approach drills. I nailed every single one. Even threw in carioca stepping with each. Afterwards, the kid said to me ... "If I were playing you, I would take note of your backhand approach. It's deadly. It skids, it's deep, and it stays low." Sure, not as impressive as a racquet-ripping, topspin forehand, but it's a signature shot nonetheless.

This is easy...although I haven't hit one in years...my overhead drop shot! You know, the one where you wind up to blast the back fence away and instead, you just barely glance the ball off the racquet tip to put some wicked backspin on the ball as it barely clears the net too.

my 1HBH.

there's nothing that i can't do with it. even high bouncing balls or high kick-serves don't bother me at all.

last year i played against a pro who has stopped playing international tournaments but is still a pro as he earns all of his money with playing national tournaments. i guess that his playing level at that time last year was about atp 200.
it was nice to see that i was able to hit winners against him and he couldn't take advantage during a point when he was hitting to my backhand.
unfortunately he could take advantage very well when he was hitting to my forehand :-( ;)
however, he won the match pretty easily.

i'm not really proud of my backhand, but it's a comfortable feeling to know that it is still competitive against anybody.

My 1hbh

Well it's more of a combination where me and an opponent keep running back and forth hitting the ball back cross court. Then using my backhand shot with some side spin and shoot it across court and have the ball curve in behind the other player as they run to where it would go if it was going to go straight.

I first accidentally did this shot and tried to develope it into an actual shot i can use at will. still doesnt always work and sometimes i do it without wanting to still but it sure if fun when i finally get. to bad my stamina usually runs out before my opponent, im currently working on that.

im not sure if this shot actually has a name since im not to name savey when it comes to tennis shots or tennis in general i just like to play.

My only signature shot must be the forehand much like Carlos Moya and Fernando Gonzalez. It usually drops down on the lines and are all called good except some few :)

Otherwise I would call my play a signature, I always employ a good tactic and outplays my opponent that way. My serve is prolly by second best shot. My third would be a high killer 2HBH.

I really have no weak parts except my approach backhand. To much Roddick-style there, doing a bad slice.

Forehand down the line, hit with pace and venom.:p
I also have an affinity for my backhand topspin cross-court lob. If it goes right it looks spectacular, unfortunately if it goes wrong I look like a gimp.

I gotta say im pretty proud of of cool volleying spin, when im volleying and they try to lob me and it goes to my backhand side I jump up and hit it as i spin. It has really good angle to

I'm proud of my slice backhand and forehand topspin lob.
Many people have told me that my slice backhand has tons of spin and stays low.
My forehand topspin lob is highly effective when I play doubles.

EVERY shot that goes over the net I am proud of. No really I am. I have put in a lot of work the past couple of years, and at almost 49YO getting better is a task. I play a lot, and have great hitting partners that are helpful.

My favorite shot to watch is the BH up the line, it looks sooooo good!!!

My Drop shot. I feel like such an evil b4s74rd when I hit it. That feeling of I gotcha! Especially when I hit it just right. It bounces towards the net or just barely bounces at all.

When you hit a drop shot just right, and all you here is just a small swoosh off your strings before it waddles over the net. It is the best feeling in the world:p

Return of serve!
Since I can't serve well, I make my opponent miserable as well when they are serving.

Same for me. My serve...when it's clicking, I hold with no troubles. Most of the rest of the time, it's a battle. The only match I can remember really being buried by a serve was when I was playing a pick-up match last year with our team's #1 player. Not only did he have no troubles breaking my serve, but I think I can count the serves I returned on one hand. He won 6-0 6-0 in...under 30 minutes.

I hate BH overheads/smashes with a passion. I always get the timing off and I completely miss the ball and it hits me in the face. I've improved a lot with it over the past couple of months though, but it's till by far my worst shot.

The shots that make me feel the most pride when I pull them off? The backwards through-the-legs shot when returning a lob is way up there. I was always so impressed when pros did it that I practiced profuously for days, and now I can actually get a great deal of power on it, and keep the ball low and deep, almost like a slightly toned down forehand. The other shot that feels great when you pull it off is a half-volley drop shot, especially if you're at the baseline. It's the last thing your opponent expects so it almost always gets your the point.

My ability to hustle shots back. That's the thing I really had to teach myself. My defensive backhand slice and squash forehand are pretty great nowadays.

reverse forehand... definitely my best, most reliable shot.

Serves. I used to have a sh***y form, have no pace, and always breakdown on my 2nd serve. Now, I have the form down for my level and I can produce 2nd serves left and right with better confidence.
