What simple things do you forget to do?

The other day, I was shanking a few FH, so I just watched the ball better, and bingo, was hitting well.

And I move too much on the BH, and I saw some good players hit and realise they keep their head dead still, so I am working on that as a cue rather than "don't over rotate, don't open up too much, use your legs more, get deep shoulder turn"

because if you keep your head dead still you have to do those things to hit it right.

I remember a pro asking edberg for advice on volleys, and all he said was "You got to watch the ball"

Anyone else realise at times we just overlook the most basic things and over think sometimes?

Don't keep my head down on the backhand..when I watch the ball through the whole stroke, my backhand is respectable and sometimes good.

When I'm constantly pulling off the ball early, it's HORRIBLE. For some reason that rarely happens with my forehand, but constantly with my backhand. I can hit 80 backhands with a ball machine, and if I lose focus for a second..I start shanking balls because I'm pulling off and watching them.

On high arcing slow balls, I prepare and plant my feet too early. This often results in a mis-hit.

Sometimes I forget in these situations to keep the feet lively until the ball bounces.

1. Watch ball.
2. Prepare early with a solid shoulder turn
3. Think...I'm old, slow, blind, injured, and can't hit like a 28 year old.

Split step. Which affects my footwork, timing, everything. So a buddy of mine told me of a technique he uses where you think or say "ball" just as the opponent hits. This cue has helped me a ton especially on returns. Such a simple thing but makes a big difference - for me, anyway.

Sorry, you swing upwards, but hit outwards on hard serves. The harder you hit, the lower your hit off your racket.

I forgot to bring my raquet once. Doesn't get any simpler than that.

ha- I played a mixed league with a gal that forgot to bring her racquet so she borrowed my spare. It was extended length, wrong grip size and about 1 oz heavier than her normal racquet. Somehow we still managed to win.

Another guy on one of my teams came to the match directly from work and forgot his tennis shoes. So he had to buy a pair on brand new shoes at the over priced proshop on site. He bought the only pair of shoes that fit him they had ($110 Wilsons)

To bend my knees, and move forward through my backhand. Too much side movement for me recently.

1. Split Step
2. Turn Sideways
3. Stare at the ball ( Because This will make sure that your eyes at the point of contact) So simple glance at the ball is not enough
4. Point of contact should be Near (Sideways) and in front of your body.
