What strings should I use?

Hello, I was wondering if the people on this forum could give me some advice on my choice of strings. I’m a 18 year old 3.0-3.5 baselines with a flat semi-western forehand and a two-handed handed. I made a similar post on the tennis.com message board and they recommended that I use a multifilament that feels like natural gut but is cheaper, and said that I have no use for polyster. After looking around on this forum, it seems that the Babolat VS ($35) is a good natural gut, while the Tecnifibre Biphase ($15) is a good multifilament. Which one should I get? Is natural gut worth the extra price? I’m willing to pay more, but only if there is a significant difference. I should mention that I rarely break strings since I don’t hit very hard. Do both types of strings last about the same time? Thanks for the help.

biphase is probably a better choice- it has a nice gut-like feel (not EXACTLY, but pretty close) and is less than half of what VS is. plus gut is a pain in the @$$ to string.

Save yourself some money and just get Prince synthetic gut with duraflex or even a cheaper syngut. The multis are for old folks with arm problems. If you're determined to spend more then get the natural gut in 16 gauge.

Prince Synthetic Gut Multifilament ($6.50/set) is your high end for the moment I would say. When you don't need durability, and you want still less expensive, you still can't go wrong with Prince's *Original* Synthetic Gut ($3.50).

You will never know for sure if you don't try both. Whether something is "worth it" is a very personal thing, which is why there are so many strings on the market. I'd suggest trying a set of each. Decide which one you like better and go with that afterwards. What people tell you doesn't really matter if you don't find the same thing. It'll be worth the money to have the knowledge. For example, I really like gut, and would fork over for it, if I weren't getting it free/cheap. I also find that Biphase isn't as good as some people say, but that's my personal experience...lots of people like it. If you're going with multis, though, I'd try a few of those. NRG2, NXT, Live Wire are a few other good ones.

I concur 100%, use the money you save on string for lessons

People put it down, but it is a solid choice. Once you get some more experience you might have a need for trying a different string. Then again, this string has stood the test of time. Plays well and you can't beat the price.
