I think it is safe to say that 2019 was not a good year for neither Star Wars nor Federer fans.
The Rise of Skywalker may perhaps be the worst Star Wars movie ever released and I can't believe that Disney let that piece of terrible garbage see the light of day and forever ruin the reputation of Star Wars more brutally than the 2008 Roland Garros final. As a STar Wars fan, watching that movie felt like hell.

At the same time, I am equally in disbelief that Roger Federer, the greatest grass court player of all time, choked away two championship points on his serve, after having served so many aces and received the full support from the entire stadium. As clutch as Djokovic was in that final, the way Fed lost the match from the position he was in still seemed inexcusable. This wasn't even 2011 or 2014/15 Djokovic. I am a fan of both Roger and Novak, but I still couldn't help but feel bad for Federer.

The umpteenth version of why Federer lost in the 2019 Wimbledon final.
Let's see what 2024 and its ingenious threads have in store for us.
:D

If Djokovic hadn’t done it to Fed before twice at the USO (yes I know not entire comparable), perhaps 2019 would sting a little less. But given that it was the third time it’s happened and the fact that it cemented Djokovic’s 3 - 0 record over Fed in Wimbledon Finals, I would augur that this had to be more painful than The Force Awakens.

I don't know why its crazy to me that those happened in the same year, but it is. TROS was actually more recent, but feels way longer ago than 40-15 does.

Both sucked, but at least I walked out of the theater thinking "hey, at least it was better than TLJ." (Although I've reversed my opinion on that since then). It wasn't the movie I wanted, but it wasn't unwatchable either. It's actually a fun but forgettable blockbuster if you can watch it in a vacuum and ignore the fact that it's supposed to be connected to 8 other movies.

40-15 on the other hand, I actually lost sleep over. I had a transatlantic flight the next day and was wide awake the whole time.

Why “perhaps”? It is almost certainly the worst movie ever made.

Both sucked but at least the 40-15 match had a couple of good parts. First set was mostly decent and I enjoyed the beatdown in the second.

TRoS is the worst Star Wars movie I have ever watched, even below TPM. I’ve ebbed and flowed on the other sequels since they came out (I actually don’t think TLJ was that bad) but I haven’t changed my mind at all on TRoS. Just so bad. So bad. So bad.

TLJ is the best movie of the new trilogy by far

This is a sad story. And hapless people such as this must put on a brave face and tell everyone they are fine even though they are shattered inside.
Cannot tell the concerned stewardess, "I'm upset about 40-15". She would not understand.

TLJ is a near complete non sequitur.

However, I don't particularly blame Rian Johnson, given the kind of insane conditions in which the sequel trilogy was gestated.
TLJ is a near complete non-sequitur because of the unfathomably stupid script of Rise of Skywalker as a result of everyone getting too scared to write anything coherent. In hindsight, Rian Johnson-written episode 9 would've almost definitely have been a more interesting and a better movie than RoS, but admittedly it would likely have still been a 'betrayal' to SW fans with its own host of issues. But if we could go back, I'd certainly take that bargain over the garbage heap of a movie we got.

By the way, RoS not even really one of the worst movies ever made or anything like that, it just has a hilariously bad script in a super expensive blockbuster movie that's meant to follow a long series of connected films, and this makes it a really baffling watch.

At least you can laugh at it.

The sequel trilogy is just wrong on so many levels, I will always consider it as Disney Fan Fiction, since it is not the vision of the actual creator who already knew how the sequel trilogy was meant to go. Have no intentions on watching them again....there is a dropping the ball, then there is digging a hole into the center of the earth and dropping the ball into that.

As for W 2019, I've only seen the match back in full once from start to finish as a rewatch. I have seen the highlights a few times though. But I totally get Fed fans never wanting to watch any of it ever again.

Wimbers took me out of The Matrix, and was a microcosmic catalyst for fully illuminating the dark necessities of zero sum games. 09 had given me a glimpse of the perverse, but 19 was the straw that broke the camel's back and showed me the void. It was a rabbit hole that took me back to my youth, to the true meat and potatoes of sporting output and away from my lazy, philistinic approach to what constitutes meaningful greatness; that all notches were to be - per se - normalized. Then came the cosmic joke of a finale to the 2021 F1 season, and my transition to a rather jaundiced view of sport in general was complete.

Luckily, I couldn't give a flying **** about Star Wars.

The trouble with Federer is that he is crowned with accolades he doesn't deserved. He was the king of tennis, he was the king of Wimbledon...

He wasn't the king of champion of Wimbledon, because he was defeated there many times. Yeah, but he looked the part. Well, then prove it. Yeah, because he was too old when he met Djokovic...

Luckily accolades fade away with time!

I am not even a SW fan and decided to forget the existence of the new trilogy after i watched TFA. Too many bad sequels made in the last decade i don't bother to watch even the trailers anymore.

I think it’s got some serious flaws but almost everything after and including the throne room scene is pretty good. There were a few plot developments that don’t really make sense thematically based on what we learned in the previous movie, but there were other twists that I enjoyed.

TRoS made a bit less than half the box office of TFA, so what I told you was true... from a certain point of view.

But perhaps I should have said 'many' rather than 'most'.

Agreed on many. On the box office takes: I guess it depends on who counts as a fan. Probably some of it is fair weather fans coming to a new trilogy but not seeing it through but I don’t know how to find out whether that is true or not.

I went with the standard industry definition of "fan" as clearly adopted by Disney: a human shaped source of repeatable revenue.

I like to think of Pete as the TLJ Luke Skywalker of tennis, and Nole as his Rey.

I was fed up with Star Wars long before TROS came out (thank goodness for The Mandalorian for saving the franchise).

Wimbledon 2019 still hurts.

You meant to say even below Attack of the Clones, right?

Right?

I actually go back on whether AotC or TPM is worse. Right now I’m thinking TPM but if you ask me again I might say AotC.
TPM is more boring than an Isner/Mahut match, but Clones is legitimately unwatchable. Kyrgios giving a TED talk on humility would be less cringy than AOTC was.
