What was the last movie you watched?

Predator. Always rooting for Predator.

I love both creatures. Their story, design, presentation is incredible. The people who came with the idea of each character are geniuses :)
I see we are still talking about Suresh S.
He is something else.

Ok, movies this past two months....

I watched Boyhood. Again. It changes every time. If it rains, i might watch it for the fourth time this weekend.

Also saw another ethan hawke vehicle, dead poets society. First time. I was too cool for school when it came out and i never got into it until now, watching it with my eldest. Heavier lifting than I had planned. Great fun talking about it with lax sticks in hand.

Also saw Food, Inc. and Fast food nation. Fast food nation (linklater) ran along with boyhood. Some of the same dialogue, almost! Man, Food, Inc. is just depressing.

Saw. Few minutes of Swingers and Blazin' Saddles. Mel Brooks is so money.

Coincidentally,I've just been watching Reality Bites with Ethan Hawke in it. He's a bit of a pretentious d-bag in that, but then I suppose he is like that in quite a few movies...

"Never let me go". I wish I had the patience to find the book, where I had made it to page 54 previously, and finished the book instead.

(Mad Max - Fury Road) - If you watch it with superficial mindset, it sucks. What's fun watching a bunch of lunatics driving in a desert. However, it's actually a lot deeper than that.

The movie deals with:

1. Migration - throughout history, people migrated to places where they can have security. (last year at least 80,000 people applied for asylum in Sweden. 25,000 so far this year).

2. Natural resources - today people kill for oil. There will come a time when people will kill for water.

3. Power - people in power will do anything to keep their power by subjugating or eliminating the competition.

4. Feminism - why is there war? is it because men get to decide everything? Will a society ruled by women become less chaotic.

5. symbolism and metaphors - the movie is littered with it.

All in all, it wasn't that bad.... :)
I love such films

Never liked the Alien(s) movies. I always questions how they could be alive when their blood was made of acid that could literally eat through any kind of metal.

Haha, i saw that in the theater. You nailed it. Just a character, but that is the period i did not like him and avoided dead poets society.

Then, because of him, i was negative on "before sunrise" even though it was good.

I think because of linklater, hawke grew on me this past few years. Now i am really proud of the two of them.

really

i'm surprised you would let something like that trouble you so much.

besides having creative license to pretty much do anything you want when making a movie. i think the whole alien acid thing is dutifully enough explained and/or has similar examples in nature to be to be sufficiently credible.

does it surprise you that venomous snakes can live even though venom is flowing somewhere in/throughout their body???

What did you think of it?
It was okay it you want a popcorn flick. CGI didn't look that great. Lots of product placement. Some might have problems with the female lead's character arc from stone cold business biatch to learning to love from the male lead/dying dinos/nephews. But Chris Pratt tho.

Don't think any sequel will come close to Jurassic Park.

The cinematography was amazing though, especially those underwater scenes with the water-monster..

Also watched Jurassic World. Quite entertaining. Spoiler here - That Liopleurodon behemoth was so cool. Best creature in the movie. I just knew it was going to finish off that Hybrid.

But their bodies aren't made out of metal. Acids of all kinds can be stored in a variety of materials - from plastics to glass to metals. As far fetched at the Alien scenario was it's hardly they aspect of the whole premise which should be scrutinised.

Asking questions like that of sci-fi which is so far departed from the real world is sort of a pointless exercise. Alien and Aliens are two of the great sci-fi films.

My Dinner With Andre(1981). Never gets old,all it is is 2 guys talking for almost 2 hours and it beats the pants off almost every big blockbuster since 1981...

Psycho - 1960. Hitchcock. I've seen it before but seems I'd forgotten most of the details.

Great movie, except for the long psychiatrist's speech at the end. Maybe it was required in those days ?

Seen the remake with Vince Vaughn? Almost shot for shot identical to the original, except for a scene where they had Bates jerking off when he was looking through the peephole

Just watched Get Hard starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Hilarious. One of my favourite types of humour. One of my favourite films that starred Will Ferrell (other than Step Brothers). Similar kind of humour actually...

I've heard the remake was bad/pathetic.

Just started Knock on Wood (1954). Danny Kaye.

"Slow West". Really good movie. It's a Western but not a typical western. Has a lot of Coen Brothers type humor in it. Great characters, great story (don't read any reviews - many of them give away the story), and brilliant acting by Michael Fassbender etc.
