What was the last movie you watched?

He is too old. Period.
But the real star wars is LeeD vs Sureshs.

Darth Poobah vs LeeD BaselineWalker. ;)

The San Francisco wave rider has extensive wave knowledge, catches every wave at every turn while Darth AYCE can read the buffet better than anyone... Coincidentally, duck and chicken are the only food served at the AYCE buffet, hence, no chance of Star Wars ever happening.:D

Star... you get the idea.

You're probably in a chair right now.
Get out of it.
Go and watch it.

You're welcome.

Room (2015) - Great performance by Brie Larson,I didn't find it that interesting though...
Thanks for recommendation. Will get it asap.

Amazing how many great / interesting movies I've been recommended in this thread. Have you seen the sequel, Manon des sources ?
Not yet, took quite a while to find a decent stream of it. I have now so I'll see it tomorrow.

Yeah,I have too. I learned long ago to just try and mainly focus on the type of movies I'm interested in though, there are just too many good movies out there and few people can hope to see them all in a lifetime...
.

Manon Of The Spring (1986). I won't spoil anything, but perhaps it could have been wrapped up a little better. Still,a very good 2 part movie with Jean De Florette

Anybody watch Star Wars yet ?? is it really as good as the review say ? LOL... it is getting like 96% in the Rotten tomatoe site.......it must be like one of the highest ratings EVER.............lol

Watching Andrei Rublev by Tarkovsky. It's almost 3 hours and I've watched an hour over the last 2 days.
Beautiful but a bit hard to follow. All the faces look the same to me.

I've got JDF and should be seeing both these after I finish with AR. Thanks for not spoiling !

Aren't you too old for Star Wars?:D I have personally seen none!;)
I know Poobs seems beyond any measurement of time but our ageless wonder claims he just secured his AARP card this past summer, making him a very young teen when the original was released.:D

Just saw Jean De Florette. Enjoyed it. And very beautiful area. Thanks for the recommendation. Can't wait to see Manon of the Spring !

There are some images from films that just stay with you. I will always remember the little girl Manon's face full of tears near the end when she realizes everything that has happened

Carol (2015) - One of the best of this year

Seems the new Star Wars movie is really something - guess I should go see it.

I am, too. :) I know that I'll watch whatever else the series produces. Prometheus had an intriguing idea, but the plot was such a disappointment. And it had bad science on top of that. Not that I expect Hollywood to do anything else, but some of the details were particularly annoying. Like the biologist arguing that Shaw and Holloway were discounting "three centuries of Darwinism" rather than framing his argument in the context of the considerably older material record. Although I can see why that distinction was probably very deliberately done, since the backstory that Ridley Scott had in mind would be impossible to reconcile with the fossil record and such. Still, the fact that his plot and overall narrative hinged on specialists botching their own specialities was irritating.

Thank you for the review of The Martian, btw. I had been wanting to see that one, so it's good to hear someone's perspective on what did and did not work.

Totally with you on this one. Was very disappointed with some of the acting as well

Dr. No (1962).

Bond's ability to win over women whom he (firstly) just impoverished in poker, (secondly) are actively the enemy, and he (thirdly) just found in the woods on a remote island, all in the space of two hours, is admirable.

IMHO Only surpassed by You Only Live Twice (1967).

Just saw Manon des Sources, too. Enjoyed both the movies.

What were you saying about the "wrapping up" ?

The Revenant- DiCaprio was amazing as usual. Another Oscar-worthy performance, hopefully he gets it this time. Tom Hardy's accent is a bit annoying though.

Did a triple feature of Red Rock West (1992),One Hour Photo (2002) and King Of Comedy (1982)
Just way Manon des Sources, too. Enjoyed both the movies.

Well I don't know,I guess I was just surprised with the twists at the end since up until then it all unfolded very slowly and naturally. I did still enjoy the film though and it helped that the girl playing Manon was easy on the eyes. BTW,there was an earlier version of the film, directed by the writer of the original novel: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044883/?ref_=fn_al_ch_1a

Star Wars - The Force Awakens - 6/10

Too derivative from A New Hope, there wasn't anything original in the film. Seemed like JJ Abrams was scared to put anything new in the film so he just made a rehash of a New Hope with different characters and settings. But it's better than TPM and AOTC by a longshot, similar level to ROTS.
I didn't like how the main protagonist was able to learn the force within a few minutes when she had no prior training whatsoever, she's too much of a know it all when she's supposed to be a newb. Finn shouldn't have been able to duel against Kylo at all, he's not even force sensitive.

Han's death wasn't portrayed well either, there was no buildup or the required drama for it. These are the major issues I had with the film but other than that, it was decent. :)

Edit - dunno why my post keeps splitting the paragraphs into two spoilers

It's ok to admit it was garbage.

PC Principal doesn't work here.

No, TPM and AOTC were outright garbage, horrendous films. This was better than those two films and equal to ROTS atleast. Having a few issues with a film doesn't mean it's garbage, it's just being critical. Im actually hyped for the sequels.

I think if a new person who's never seen SW before went to watch it, they'd love it. I went in with a mindset of comparing it with episode 4/5/6 but that's just me.

Saw two movies this weekend- Star Wars VII and Sisrers.

Interesting thing about Star Wars, there was a reviewer saying the great thing about this franchise was that Disney had bought a wold- a universe, where they had access to unlimited characters, stories, adventures, in the past, present or future. Interesting thing (to me), was that instead of using the vast elements at their disposal, they basically, just remade Star Wars IV and V-- only changing the names and relationships a bit. It was not a bad movie, but you could practically smell their fear of failure.

Sisters was a funnier film than Star Wars.

Sisters ?? that is Girl movie. Star Wars could be the best movie ever made. that is what I heard.

Mad Max (1979). Since I'd never seen any of the MM movies before and the new one is getting talked up,I thought I might as well watch all them. I have to say this first one failed to grab me in any way though,so I hope it picks up a bit...

Might not be for you then :( I would guess that most people say the sequel is better though (The Road Warrior) Probably more action in the 2nd, but I love both of the first two films. The opening car chase to Mad Max is one of my favorites.

As for what I've watched lately. AMC did a Conan marathon last weekend. So there's that. Watched a bit of Skyfall, and I'm now watching Star Trek Into Darkness.

I watched a film yesterday from the Coen Brothers oeuvre that just didn't fit their style; it's called Inside Llewyn Davis and it's about the folk music scene in NYC during the early 60's. The only real macabre slant featured a long car ride from NYC to Chicago that the main character made with two strangers, one of whom (played by John Goodman) is prone to long pit stops for a little IV drug boost. Other than that, it was brutally boring.

Saw Europa Europa (1990) last night. Very nice movie, enjoyed it.
Based on autobiography of Solomon Perel who escaped the Holocaust.

is that about Europa, one of the moons on Jupiter ?
Yes, as you can see from the post you quoted, there was a Hologram on the planet Europa, and some Jewish person wrote an autobiography of how he escaped it. Needless to say, there is time travel and black holes involved and only someone like you will grok the movie.
