What was the last movie you watched?

Saw Girl a Belgian film about an adolescent girl at a competitive ballet school. She happens to be transgender and the film explores the complexities and challenges she faces. It is very well acted by the protagonist (a boy in real life).

However I thought the relationship dynamic with her father did not quite work nor was I convinced by the narrative and storyline.

American Assassin. Bleh. Could've been so much better. More like American operative. Sorry but an assassin is something entirely different.

Deadpool 2. Loved it. So much fun.

Skyscraper. It was enjoyable. Got right to the point. No beating around the bush with who's good who's bad stuff. No dragging it out while we wonder if the good guy knows so and so is a bad guy.

Captain Marvel. It was fun. Wife enjoyed it as well and she normally doesn't watch these kinds of movies.

Looking forward to seeing 'Us' this weekend with the wife. Looks like a lot of fun.

Exquisite cinematography and at 3.5 hours long, it can feel tedious but I haven't seen such sensitive portrayal of humanity on screen for a long long time.

I am in the middle of Winter Sleep, an interesting Turkish film set in some stunning remote mountain village in Anatolia. It's 3 hours and 15 minutes long.

Finished Winter Sleep. Interesting film, a lot of dialogue so YMMV. Made by the same director who did "Once upon a time in Anatolia". Based on Chekhov's The Wife.

Saw a couple. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. Eh. Typical dinosaur stuff. Nothing ground breaking or anything we haven't seen before. Would skip it.

Saw 'Us' as well with the wife. She was freaked out by it, but I wasn't and I was hoping I would be, but I think I've watched too many movies in my life and just know too well when things are going to happen and how. Personally I think she just likes to try and break my arm or draw blood with digging her nails into me. Interesting movie, but this whole thing about double meanings in there, easter eggs and stuff and needing to watch it again, no thanks. I watch movies to escape, not to be taught lessons about how we are as a society. I can see how society is by logging into Facebook or going to a forum to see how people interact. Looking forward to seeing the Pet Semetary re-make this weekend.

I have no idea. It's constantly changing as well as language seems to evolve over text. Trying to explain to my 7 year old what certain things mean and by the time he's a teen those things will probably mean something else. I read somewhere that if you end a sentence in a text with a period, yes a period it means you're angry. Whaaaa????

Lmao, tldr has been around since like the mid 2000's. YMMV is fairly new though, that's for sure. Occasionally I will find myself having to google some abbreviations, but for the most part, I can either figure them out, or I've already seen them used before.

Shazam(2019) - Although this superhero flick did not have big names, it was pretty good from start to finish with lighthearted humor but with darker music. I would rate this as No.2 among the DCEU Franchise after Wonder Woman. It looks like they are getting better with their movies lately. No wonder it has 90% RT score from both critics and audiences alike.

White Crow

Ralph Fiennes stars and directs in this biopic about ballet dancer Nureyev's defection to the West.

I thought it was a bit disjointed as the film jots about over three different periods in Nureyev’s life.

Still, it gave you a sense of the great man and more interestingly (for me) conveyed the creepy atmosphere prevalent in the Soviet Union under Khrushchev.

Marlon Brando, James Garner.

A bit too long, and I personally didn't think Brando fit the role. He talked as though he had marbles in his mouth, but i just read that that southern accent was deliberate.

Watched Back Roads (1981) a few days back. Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones. Nice.
Battlecreek (2017) - worth missing. Rather poor end.
Oscar and Lucinda (Ralph Fiennes, Cate Blanchett, Ciaron Hinds).

Shazam. So enjoyable. Not for little kids though. I have a 7 yo and there's stuff in there that he'd cover his eyes over. It's a bummer since he really wanted to see it, but no point in watching a movie when you have to cover your eyes for certain parts.
