lol. Around Christmas I might splurge and get one of the more expensive Crown Royal or Gibson's. It does taste really Christmas-y to me. But generally I don't spend much on alcohol and so I stay away from rye.

I am a single Malt Scotch guy. I like to support the smaller Distilleries. I have a few from the larger guys (Balvenie, Old Porteney, Ardbeg, etc.), but really enjoy Springbank and their offshoots (Kilkerran, Hazelburn, Longrow), Kilchoman, Glen Scotia. Have a couple bottles of Daftmill but have not opened one yet.

What's your latest drop, and how would you describe it?
Just cracked a Lagavulin 8yo Lim Ed, a lot peatier than what I remember with a bit of fire and low sweetness. I remembered it being like Talisker 10 but it's actually a lot smokier and less sweet. Still nice.
I've got Ardbeg 10yo, Jameson, Slane, Limeburners Sherry Cask, Hibiki Harmony, Hibiki 17yo, Hakushu 12yo lying around if you want to know about those just ask! (as in I'll tell you not give you some!)
Where's the "none" option in the poll, for people who think this beverage is disgusting?

Having a sip of Taketsuru Pure Malt (from Nikka) tonight.
A very mild, round and somewhat rich aromas: a sherry and malt overall base with spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) combined with yellow apples and candied fruits. A bit of a kick on the palate from the high alcohol content (43% Vol.), followed by a nice aftertaste of the same malt a bit of raisins and sweet clove. A bit dry on the aftertaste (not too oily).
I think that people that like Cragganmore and Balvenie will be at home here.

That Glen is mighty fine (post 159), but a bit in the "too rich for its own good" category.
The Blue Label is just too expensive for what it is: it is not focused on anything in particular. I can't imagine many people that know their whisky will choose it. It is nice enough whisky to drink, but not much character.

Have you tried Ardbeg Wee Beastie? It is fighting my Talisker, which says something.
Not sure I can get hold of that one here. I already have Ardbeg Uigedal (or something or rather), and a couple of Taliskers so maybe I should get something a little more different to what I have already?

You said that you like Springbank. I assume you have tried Springbank 15, then? If not that would be a fine choice. Then there is the limited edition of Springbank 17 Madeira, but that will be really difficult to get hold of.
Edit: the last edition of Longrow 18 might also be of interest to you.

I like smoky Scotches neat after dinner and some of my favorites are Ardberg, Lagavulin, Laphroig, Talisker and Oban. I also like some of the Glenmorangie scotches aged in Sherry (Lasanta) and Sauternes (Nectar d’Or) barrels.
If it is hot outside or I’m in a bar, I might drink a blended Scotch on the rocks - Dewars or Famous Grouse. I got a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label, George V edition as a gift once and I took a few years to slowly finish that one.
Apart from Scotch cocktails like Penicillin, Rusty Nail or Rob Roy, I also like rye whisky in cocktails like Old Fashioneds and Whisky Sours. I usually stock Rittenhouse or Woodforde Reserve for that. As I get older, I find itself preferring cognac as an after-dinner drink to Scotch, maybe because it pairs so well with a couple of squares of a bitter dark chocolate.

I like the Blue Label, but I am not drinking much scotch lately. I am not fond of paying for $200 bottles.Do you like the Blue Label? What other spirits do you drink?
I mostly drink red wine, and among them, Argentinian Malbecs in the $20-$30 range per bottle, where you can find great deals. For special occasions, I can aim higher.
