What will Djokovic’s 2025 season look like?

socallefty

G.O.A.T.
Which tournaments will he play? How many will he win?

My guess is he will play an abbreviated schedule that maybe looks like this: Adelaide, AO, Dubai, Indian Wells, Monte Carlo, Rome, FO, Wimbledon. Cincinnati, USO, Shanghai, Bercy, Turin (if he qualifies).

Maybe he will win 1 Slam and 2 other tournaments. I would not be surprised if he plays less than 12 tournaments especially if he suffers injuries as is likely at his age, but would be surprised if he plays 14+.

What do you think? Which events will he play and how will he do?

Only 2 possibilities
- he wins AO and comes back in big style
- he continues slamless year without winning anything important, plans retirement

Both cases have 50% chance of happening

He won the FO and Wimbledon two out of the last four years plus the USO once. I think he has a shot at any Slam as long as he is healthy and in good form. There are only a couple of players who play at his level typically on each surface. I don’t see any big slowdown in movement this year when he was healthy compared to last year.

I do think he made a mistake dismantling his team and firing Goran in particular. Time will tell if he can win Slams without a coach and with his new trainers.

Like Fed, only tournaments he can win or has brand appeal.

So I personally think he skips Sunshine Double.

AO win and retirement is plausible but after the knee he clearly values Wimbledon. He'll play Belgrade.

He had his reasons for firing Goran, both said they were "tired" of each other and there wasn't real purpose to continue with the deal. But I do agree he needs proper coach. Not Troicki, but someone who can actually tell him what to do.
My fav for this is Patrick Mouratoglou.

As for first part of your post, Novak can win if healthy, no doubt about it, but we don't know does he have any drive or fire in his belly. If he is empty, no skills or experience can make him push himself in matches when he is not feeling ok or losing set/2

Idk it’s up in the air. Either he’s still gonna be a favorite at the slams or he’s gonna be fully washed and on the decline.

He proved he can still beat the best players at the Olympics which helps confidence wise and also his fitness still held up well there.

Main reason for the really bad USO was just a hangover from the Olympics win. He just kinda turned up and gave it a go because he might as well. He’s defending champ and not injured, not a great look if he just decides to skip a slam.

A full on mental reset and an abbreviated schedule and we could still see Novak in the running at slams.

I’m thinking AO, but a warmup before. United Cup or whatever it’s called nowadays. Then AO. I think he will completely skip over the sunshine double, play Dubai for the $$$, then off to clay. Monte Carlo so he can have another chance at 3x Masters series sweep. And he’ll skip Madrid/Rome, I think Madrid because he’s better in Rome. Then French Open. Probably light grass warmup like Boodles exhibition, then Wimbledon. After that onto North America. He’ll skip one of Canada/Cincinnati, then go to the U.S. Open. After that, Tokyo (same reasons as Dubai), Shanghai, Paris, and if he’s qualified, the tour finals in Turin.

All said and done I think he’ll want more slams once he’s mentally reset himself.

I think time finally caught up with him. Olympic Gold was his last title and that's a great ending to the greatest tennis career of all time.

He's going to play worse than this season, only at the US Open he could do a little better but the reality is that Djokovic's fall will be abrupt.
Who knows if he will want to play the 2026 season with another blank year in GS tournaments.

If he doesn’t win any of the first three Slams in 2025 and they are all won by Sinner/Alcaraz, will he start thinking of retiring at the USO? Or will he continue to play in 2026?

I personally think he will win one of the first three Slams, but it is interesting to speculate what he will do if he starts feeling like he can’t win Slams anymore.

Patrick does nothing and only led a relatively talented Rune in ruin.

Vajda did something with another player ? Agassi ? Becker ? Ivanisevic ?
Patrick has nice insights and it seems he is pro Djokovic
Patrick was not making use of Agassi’s talents, While he was coaching Andre the American lost three straight slam finals and after he won his first he kept slagging along, It was only once he and Patrick had a falling out that Agassi started winning slam after slam.

I would think prep 250 for AO
Then AO

Maybe IW

Serbia or equivalent
Rome
RG

Exho grass
Wimby

Cincinnati
Usopen

He understands what happens if you don't prep at his age. 3r loss. That's what happens.

That's just 8 tournaments with huge rest in between. He can add a couple or just play for slams. It's going to be less than 13 tournaments anyway. Maybe less than even 11.

Will lose in the quarters and earlier but won’t contend for major titles. A semifinal at best but no slam finals played.

Retirement in Belgrade 2025

He’s not done yet. Popryin win was a bit redline/flukey. With a kind draw he can still go deep and see what happens.

People talking about a final AO title, but I think he could potentially go all the way at RG. Outside chance at going deep / winning there, whereas he will have a few others to worry about on the hard courts

People are forgetting that Nole will turn 38 years old in 2025, except Federer, nobody after 1980 won an ATP title after turning 38 yo.
It's insane to think that Djokovic will turn around this "bad" year, also add that he won the Olympic Gold Medal, there's no motivation left for him, except maybe reaching Federer's 103 titles, and that's an IF.

With his age, we can safely assume that his level keeps declining. And since he didn't threaten at any major, he won't win any major in '25. It's time to practice the retirement speech.

I wouldn't be so sure.

September 14-15 Davis Cup

September 17 exhibition in Bulgaria

October 2-13 Shanghai

October 16-19 Six Kings Slam

October 28-November 3 Paris

November 10-17 ATP Finals

It seems that he is timing the form for Paris and atp finals, these are his favorite indoor tournaments where he has 14 titles.
