What will stringing a Dunlop 200 18 x 20 with 17 gauge poly @35 pounds do for this player?

A very solid 15 year old player around 9.5 UTR who plays with a Dunlop 200 Tour 18 x 20 string pattern has started stringing his racquet with a 17 gauge poly string @ 35 pounds.
He hits the forehand early and relatively flat compared to the current topspin forehand style.

What will this setup do for his game?

He previously strung his racquet with a Gut/Poly combination @ 52/50

if said player hits flat with too much of an upward trajectory the ball will sail out. Conversely, if he hits flat with too much of a downward trajectory the ball will go into net. Usually, lower tension string beds require more of a topspin game to keep the ball in when hitting at higher velocity. Since he’s a 9.5 UTR player, i’m sure he will manage to adjust his strokes accordingly to include more of a brush unless he’s able to get the proper downward trajectory when hitting flat.

Actually thinner polys if they are strung at a low tension give a dead and muted feeling with less power at medium to high swing speeds while still providing decent power on volleys .
I actually felt that when i was stringing my biomimetic 200 tours at 12 - 11 kg .
Helped me hitting my flat hard strokes with easy depth control .

it depends what type of poly...i dont see the soft lively copolys behaving like that but then again I dont play with 18x20 much so can’t really comment on that

I was using polystar energy 17 .
I remember it was a soft poly but I can't remember if it was a co-poly . I had a roll of 400 meters and I was doing testing with three identical rackets . Going below 20 kilos till about 14 kilos it was a catapult . Then going even lower it started to have that muted feeling and tons of control . Going under 11 kilos it became again an unpredictable catapult . I am sure it had to do with the elongation properties of the string . Since then I stopped doing experiments ;)

I always played (and play) my M-Fil 200s at tensions up near the top of the recommended. The racquet does tend to become a bit of a trampoline at lower tensions IIRC. YMMV, though, as different strokes produce different results. I also think the feel turns to mush at lower tensions.
