I was faced with this choice today. I could stay home and watch the Wimbledon Final on TV or go to the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center (20 minutes from my house) and watch the final of the F17 Futures from the front row (admission is free for all!). The matches started close to the same time, so I couldn't really watch both. I picked the Futures match. Watching live tennis is just so much better then TV! It was a great match too! Jean-Yves Aubone (an FSU grad) beat Toby Martin (a young Brit) 1-6 7-5 7-6(6). Jean came back from two breaks down in the third and saved a match point at 5-6 in the tiebreak. The drama was almost as high as the Wimby final (it was made even more exciting by checking Wimby scores on the changeovers)! Which one would you pick? Live Futures final or TV Wimby final?

You tape the final, go watch live match then come back and just avoid spoilers and watch the match later at night.

Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too.

I watch a local challenger tournament live each year. TBH, there's no enthusiasm in it, I'm not a fan of any player there, and 99% of time these ATP 50-150 players have SO BORING PLAYSTYLE. I hate endless baseline hitting, and these players ALWAYS play like that. No touch, no creativity, no net playing.

I don't really know any Futures players to be a fan, so I don't really get into the match as much. But I don't agree that it is boring. These guys are unbelievably good! The amount of pace they hit with consistently is just off the charts! Today, Aubone pulled off some running FHs and passing shots that were simply Nadal-like. His 1hbh is also amazing! The angles, pace and defense off that wing were jaw-dropping. I've never seen a guy hit so many open-stance sliding topspin 1hbhs so hard! Yes, the guys did stay at the baseline most of the time, but their baseline games were so awesome that it was not boring at all. It is really a shame that such talented and entertaining players are barely making a living on the Futures tour. Futures tourneys really need more attention, money and sponsors.

Jeez, very one sided poll! Am I the only one that thinks that TV tennis sucks compared to the real thing?

TBH, I've watched challenger tourney matches at 1st row, and these guys just hit too hard for me to relate to! And they just baseline bash, so the strategy side of things is too boring.

But I've watched some national 40 years old championships. These guys hit at a level I can relate to, and watching their consistency, movement and amazing technique was nice!
