Whateley on Djokovic's statue "Novak is not loved here. He can be admired by for his achievements, but he's not loved."

I'm guessing Whately and others of similar mind think statues should be reserved for champions who were loved.

Would be interesting if they took a poll of Australian tennis fans on this to see how many agree with him....or not. .
I suspect they would answer that statues of Serbians belong in Serbia

Djokovic and his fans have to be the most insecure desperate heels in all of sports. Most fans of disliked athletes can admit that their guy is hated and that they like them for that but Djokovic fans are the only one that bend themselves into pretzels to blame the hate on anything else other than the fact that their man is and has always been a complete knob.
Holy projection, Batman! I don't think there's a more insecure 'fanbase' in sports than the anti-Djokovic crowd. You can check the posting history of the people who liked (or wrote) this comment, but this thread does the job on its own. But yeah, the majority of the crowd in his matches against Alcaraz was Serbian, just like in Shanghai. Social media followers are faked, and so are the endorsements. Funny how it's always the least knowledgeable, 'speak first, think never' people going against him—and that's apparently a bad thing?

You sound a bit insecure BTW.

I feel like Djokovic being disliked has become more of a meme than it is the case in reality. He's liked a lot, just not as much as Federer was. Nadal was also not liked that much back in the days. The crowd usually cheered heavily in favour of Federer when Fedal played each other. There's a difference between "being disliked" and "not being liked as much as Federer, a.k.a. one of the most well-liked and marketable sportsmen in history"

It's not just that Djokovic isn't liked as much as Nadal and Federer; he has been booed pretty significantly at many tournaments and with many different triggers for the boos.

There's almost no one left from his generation and he STILL gets boos. Perhaps some people don't care about it but he clearly has throughout his career and so do many of his fans.

I had the privilege to boo Djokovic last year in Paris. It was a dream come true :-D

That's true, but that usually happens in response to him making gestures at the crowd.. So in those cases it's him picking fights with the someone or multiple people in the crowd. I don't see him getting booed without something to trigger it.

You resurrected a thread that was dead for 3 days. You were trolling the forum for Djokovic disrespect.

Insecure.
Sorry mr ttw hall monitor. All the trolling sure does make you look very secure...

People often boo or cheer for the idea of a person rather than the person themselves. That applies to all players, but boos against Djokovic have practically become a meme at this point. The longer you talk to the people who do it, the more you realize they have no clue what's going on. This happened briefly in the mid-2000s with Nadal (though not to this extent) but faded relatively quickly. Novak sometimes tries to provoke a reaction from the crowd (the Alcaraz match at Roland Garros or Bercy 2023 run are good examples), but there are also situations where he gets booed when other players wouldn’t. The boos in the Bercy match against Rune, for instance, were fueled by misinformation, people think Djokovic only leaves the court to break his opponent’s momentum, even though he does it after winning sets as well. Worrying about it is like stressing over a 50% Rotten Tomatoes audience score for Uncut Gems, some people are just like that, and there’s nothing you can do about it.

It seems the thread I had posted about Troicki and Djokovic has been removed entirely in spite of having been online for many days.
I've been here....30-ish years? I've never reported a post.

Djokovic fans are the most sensitive snowflakes ever.

Right, people judge players based on their past behavior. That's how it works in the real world too.

Lol! I can't believe anyone still falls for this dude's bs injury claims. Why he doesn't get called out for this crap publicly by tennis media is just pathetic.

Well, one reason is that there really almost aren't any 'tennis media' beyond people who are already intimately tied with all the agencies, broadcasters and players. Only occasionally you'll hear one of them slip up and say something they really think if there happens to be a microphone around but it will quickly be talked over and never referenced again.

But it's an open secret on the tour and if you recall, some players and coaches have laughed and mocked it openly.

And who says this?

Loads of doctors who specialize in the field as well as physical therapists who specialize in treating it in recovery.

"Grade 3 tears — Severe tears is another name for this category of hamstring tears. They involve a complete or nearly complete tearing of the hamstring muscle. These tears are the most likely to require surgery to heal properly, and they often take up to three months or more to recover from. "

Of course that was never going to be the case here for reasons that are obvious to anyone who isn't a credulous Djokovic fan.
