What's the deal with Tipsarevic's serve?

He uses such a short toss. Everything I've heard says he needs to throw it about twice as high in order to hit it at full extension.

The reason I ask is because I find my serve to be harder and more consistent with a short toss like his. But I know if I posted a video of me serving like that all I'd get is grief. It always seems to be working well enough for him thus far.

Just curious...

It works well for him your right. I recall seeing him pretty high in the ace count for the tournament, could even of been in the top 5.

He's an all round quirky guy, makes sense his serve would be too :)

He tosses it just high enough, allowing him to hit that insane flat/slice that he gets.

What's the deal with his shorts? He is the poster boy to run right out and NOT buy Fila shorts, ever.

There was some problem. I think they stuck to the sweat on his legs. It was just uncomfortable to look at, I can only imagine how he felt wearing them.

hes just a really strong guy, his serve is all upper body. He doesnt use his legs at all, yet he is still able to hit 130 mph. If he used his entire body, i think he could knock 140+'s

You take the plusses with the minuses. His flat/slice serve is really good, really low. But because of that, it's also very risky, hence his lower 1st serve percentages.

He served very very well, although still not as well as Fed, who was unbelievably clutch on his 1st serve, with what 40 aces? Unbelievable. Especially when he has such a high 1st serve percentage, so few double faults, such a safe (but yet aggressive) 1st serve.

Well he is a fairly short guy, in his prime 24 years old, so he is ston but short. Lower toss is better if you want to ht a flat serve, his are pretty flat all the time ..

I'm pretty sure his serve would be ripped apart if someone on this board posted a video of themselves with the same serve. It definitely looks like it would suck, but it looks to work for him. I think his second serve motion looks better than his first.
