What's this? It's not serious?

NADAL UPDATE: From 5live tennis correspondent Jonathan Overend, we hear early indications are that Nadal's injury is not serious and he will be able to play tomorrow. However, we are still awaiting the official result of Nadal's MRI scan.

Not serious? Well I never...

I need to sit down. The shock, it's just too much.

Yeah, the legitimacy of Nadal's injury rested on whether he would pull out of WB today or not

Jesus Christ.

As I said before, you either have to break your foot or be fine and dandy.

Ain't no in-between buddy.

Then the moaning and groaning about the TIMING(and motivation) of the MTO when woodrow said that it was perfectly legal.

On a more serious note, hope Nadal is taking it easy in practice before he goes fish-ing.

But if he looses to Fish, Murray or [Insert Final player here] then he lost solely and whole heartedly because of his foot injury.

Good news. We need a fresh Rafa to give a Andy a proper workout in the semis before he takes the Serbian scalp and drives back to his London flat with the Wimbledon trophy. Vamos.

LOL! Bascially Patrick McEnroe and the ESPN crew stated that Nadal may be a bit of a hypochondriac and it is pi$$ing off the other players even though they won't come out and say it. McEnroe also said that you have to see a pattern with Nadal who takes MTO's in slams when he is losing.

Now it is one thing for us at TW to state something like this but for commentators on a nationally based network to come out and say this on tv is a whole different matter. If one is truly an objective fan, you have to look at these MTO's of Nadal and see a pattern. If you don't see it or deny it, you have to be a biased obsessed fan to a degree. I don't care who the player is or how much you admire him/her, after something occurs time after time, you have to stand back and say, maybe there is an issue here.

I don't get the American coverage over here, but i'm glad they have said something. The commentators for the BBC haven't mentioned anything, which is a bit of a shame as it's a topic people feel quite strongly about, whichever side of the fence you are on.

He has not faked the injury, just because he doesn't have to pull out of the tournament doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Unless you want to explain to me about Fed's mysterious back injury in 03 WIM.

Listen, the ESPN crew just came out and stated that there is a history of Nadal and injuries when he is losing. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see it, no matter who the players are. Yes, Federer I am sure has used injuries in the past as an excuse for poor playing performances, but, he is not the guy who takes MTO's in tournaments when he is losing. People need to shut up and be objective and take a step back and see this pattern no matter how much they idolize a player. It is what it is. Enough with the excuses.

You know what honestly, I was surprised myself that Patrick McEnroe came right out and said it and the others pretty much agreed. P Mac is somebody who is pro Nadal and has often stated how talented he thinks he is and he has gushed openly about him, so for him to come out and say this on national tv, you have to give him props.

Yeah, they called him out last year over the Petzschner MTO, shame they didn't do the same this year.

Instead, the British press have headlines such as "Nadal limps into the next round".

Oh please, don't even mention Fed in this case. Nadal does this on a regular basis. Its almost like you know he would do this when a big match its coming up.

The only time I remember Fed taking an MTO is back at 2008 in the TMC against Murray where he suffered from his back and....wait for it, its a shocker.......it affected his serve! Plus he lost the match as well.

Nadal feels he can do whatever he wants on court and nobody can do anything about it. I would imagine his fans being disappointed over his behavior yet instead, even if Nadal would kill someone you'll go "Hey but Fed tried to kill someone with a ball to his head in 2004".

I heard yesterday that he is withdrawing from the quarters and Fish gets a walk over? Which one is true?

So Fish will still have to beat him, I guess.

Absolutely, commentators having a debate about that sort of thing is much more interesting than the mundane topics they usually concentrate on. I personally see the pattern and am interested in what people who supposedly know the game have to say about it. On the BBC we get dribble from the likes of Andrew Castle who would never in a million years talk about anything that could be seen as criticizing one of the top players.

He'll be on court, don't worry about that :) He will make the final, it's just a question of whether or not Federer or Djokovic can stop him. I can see all the "Nadal wins on one leg, what a warrior!" headlines now, hopefully one of the two can stop those.

Okay. Reading the news here I though he broke his foot yesterday.

Getting to a tiebreak in the first set counts as losing?

Okay. Reading the news here I though he broke his foot yesterday.

He said he heard a crunch towards the end of the first, which made him think it could be broken. I think him playing 3 more tough sets and a tie-break was enough to show him it wasn't broken.

I was hoping Murray gets to the final here and was, in some way, happy that Nadal is withdrawing. It just got tougher! Damn.

hmmm ok and explain to me at which point yesterday was Nadal losing when he took the time out?

He hunched down and called for the trainer after hitting a FH winner DTL. Not his typical reaction, he normally gives a big fist pump after a shot like that in an important moment. That gave HIM set point. So are you suggesting that he purposely earnt the set point, then purposely played 3 terrible points in a row to purposely take the set to a TB in order for the trainer to break Delpo's "flow" before the said TB only to lose the first 3 points of that TB?

Are you out of your fkn mind?

Hypothetically if Nadal had won that set point, the trainer would've still come out and treated him, at that point he would've been in front. So you do not have a case for yesterday.

A shudder went through all Federer fans. The question now is whether they want their hero to lose against Djokovic again rather than hand Rafa the title on a plate.

I am not currently in front of a jury so I don't need to make a case about anything and try and convince anybody of anything.

Yesterday was indeed something to question. I am not saying Nadal did not feel something in his foot and think something was wrong. I am pretty sure he did feel something but you have to take this incident along with the countless others in the past and say, you know what, there is a pattern with this guy. He does use MTO's as gamesmanship to put off the other player. If it just happened once or twice, nobody would say a peep about it. However, this is a repeated pattern with Nadal. How many times can somebody say, "my dog ate my homework?" At first maybe you could buy the excuse but if it happens over and over you have to call BS at some point.

Again, maybe Nadal felt something and he wanted to have it checked out. After the MTO he was running around like nothing happened. You have to at least consider the possiblility that maybe he is a bit of a hypochondriac. He is the best in the world, nobody can question that, but what does that have to do with his other idiosyncrasies?

The only thing Federer fans are shuddering about is how Nadal constantly takes suspicious MTO's. Federer who is far from perfect in other areas, never resorts to this behavior. At a certain point you have to call a spade a spade and see something for what it is, no matter how many Nadal posters you have in your bedroom!

No - but he will happily take a p1ss to disrupt his opponent and/or wait for the sun to move - same thing in my book.

Wrong. Fed pissed in a certain direction and the sun just followed his yellow stream :)

Plus, Fed was just taking the **** out of himself. Literally.

But how many times has Federer done this in his entire career? I am not saying Federer does not resort to his own tricks from time to time, but, it is not a constant in his career. Nadal takes MTO's like he is breathing in the air.

Oh please, the guy took a bathroom break AFTER the set was OVER and he was broken AFTER the break as well. No case whatsoever. He was back in no time as well.

Delpo to chair Umpire ...

After Delpo lost the set, he smashed his racket and briefly talked to the Chair umpire in Spanish. I quickly called my wife to TRANSLATE and she thought that Delpo was saying " ... he is lying ...". The reference was maybe to Nadal, she was not sure. Anybody can confirm this? Thanks.

Good morning everybody. Yesterday after the match I went to take an MRI at a London hospital. During the match I thought I had something serious but as the match went through the pain got better and thankfully the tests don't show an injury. Today I will practice at 4.30 pm and I'll play tomorrow. Thanks all for the support.

Damn! Murray better get ready! I was hoping he has to face Fish in the semi final. :(

No offense Batz, but with the difference that he openly admitted what he did, and why.

Desperate *******s clutching at straws and bringing up Fed's bathroom break to justify Nadal's MTOs ?
Fed took the bathroom break after a set and was back before the umpire called time. Like someone said earlier on this board , how exactly did it disrupt the momentum of the match or affect the opponent that Fed was in the bathroom instead of sitting on his chair during the break ?

This is an SCANDAL. Nadal faking an injury AGAIN when he is having a hard time in a Slam. This is ridiculous.... and then they call us "fed ****s" or something like that when we say that Nadal is not a fair player. He is not the best.

NAdal should act in a war film where the hero is injured and still lives his life and fights for his daily meal.
He will get an Academy Award for the role comes naturally to him.
