What's with the Fed hate?

Well i don't think Nadal would beat Federer on the rebound ace court, but this new acrylic court (plexicusion) seems slower than the rebound ace. Nadal 07 would have a shot.
Unlikely, not on any hardcourt. Maybe on slow grass he might come close as he did in W07. It takes more skill to play on fast courts than slow.

If I recall, he beat Federer at '09 AO. He doesn't need his 08 form, he needs to keep up his CC FH and DTLBH and he can beat Federer because Nadal has a much better BH than Federer and keep mixing up his serve because his serve is too predictable. Lastly he needs to just get healthy for once. If he can do these 3 things I think he'll be more than fine.
He was still in 08 form at AO09. And even with that form he won because Fed folded in the 5th.

He did beat him in 09, but don’t expect Roger to serve 51% 1st serve in that match. Not all matches will automatically reflect the previous one. Also, expecting Rafa to play that same high level again is another question. Time has change, and right now Roger is more likely to beat Rafa.

Rafa was still an inferior player in 07 than he was in 09, and I don't think he has a shot at 09 Murray anyway. So the answer is still no.

He beat him in Dubai , which is considered fast, in 2006. It takes more intelligence to play on slower courts. That is why the tennis is better to watch.

Dubai is not a slam and Federer is a different animal in slams.

Tennis used to be a crafty game on clay, with guys as recent as Kuerten, Corretja, Coria, Costa and Ferrero doing well at Roland Garros, but players now just stand at the baseline and slug it out to see who will miss first. There's little net play and there are far less angles being exploited.

Chopin, you post a video of Fed visiting poor children, donating money and stuff, and this reminds me of a debate in class not too long ago. It was about Haiti and somebody brought up the topic of celebrities giving away to haiti relief and stuff, and how great those celebrities are for doing that, how generous they are. BS!! If you earn BILLIONS doing something giving away a portion of the money doesn't make you great. I know what you are going to say here - Fed is the best, "do you know how hard it is to become #1", bla bla bla. Well I understand it's hard. But working in the mine is also as hard, as not harder. Yet the best miner in history barely made a living, while average sports players, celebrities, comedians and all are making a killing. Then they give away a million of their "hard earned" billions and everybody is like "They're heroes!" Well sorry to break it to you - they're not!

Yep, I agree. Clay courters used to be exotic, now EVERYBODY is a clay courter because the style of play has become so defensive and all surfaces have become slower.

So Sampras, Ivanisevic, Agassi and Rafter are all "less intelligent" compared to Nadal?

I seriously don't believe Fed has alot of hate in this forum. I think only the Samprastards and *********s are the ones that trully despise Federer for various reasons :Samprastards are just scared that Fed will surpass Sampras in every way, and *********s can proclaim that Nadal is the only man that can beat Fed on a constant basis @ GS.

The fed fans can go ballistic with the way Fed loses his matches (vs Tsonga comes to mind).

I don't mind that Fed loses but it's the way he loses that can make you go crazy (up 5-1 vs Tsonga no matter which surface should of been a done deal since Tsonga is not known for fighting back in loose sets)

1. Samprastards are not scared anymore b/c it was over from last year RG. Their problem right now are unable accepting the truth about Roger is better than Pete.

2. *******s have nothing on their hero when comparing to Roger's achievements. Their problem right now are unable to accept Roger's is the best, the player of this era, and only hold on to h2h records to feel good about.

Both side have problem. Which one is worse, you make the call.:)

What I meant for the Samprastards is he's still the King of Grass (unless Fed wins his 7th), Sampras is still the leader for number of weeks being #1 (something Fed will definately surpass soon), Sampras is still the leader of YEC titles (Fed is one shy of tying Sampras record) and Sampras has a DC (something I'm not even sure Fed will ever get)

*********s thinks h2h vs Fed>>>>> #GS which is ridiculous at best.

Would Federer trade let say 2 GS for a positive h2h vs everyone? Hell no. That would be insanely stupid.

Nadal while being a fantastic player (I'd say in terms of accomplishments he's just below Agassi) will never have a career like Federer.

Roddick and Blake have won Davis Cup, so what? It's about being a team and i'm sure if Federer could actually play every DC match, Switzerland would probably win.

Sampras had great teammates in DC. Federer has Wawrinka as his 2nd, who is a very good player but not in the same class as Agassi.

I personnally don't give a damn if Fed ever wins a DC or not but I was just refering that Sampras has won DC and Fed hasn't and some users use those facts as Sampras >> Federer (which is stupid)

Yep. I'm a Nadal's fan and I swear, I had nothing against Federer one year ago. I never liked him much, even before Nadal came onto the scene. I like Federer's game, but I can't feel passion for his game. I liked his personality because he's classy, but he was always too cold, prissy and smug to make me feel some real attachment for him. But I had nothing against him and I'm still pretty ok till some extend.
One year ago, I made the big mistake to start reading forums. I was disgusted by all the hate towards my favourite player. And it's very easy to see where it was coming from the majority of the time.90 % of those haters/bashers are Federer's fans. I'm sorry, but the Federer's fans are Federer's worse enemy, I think. Such a disdain and arrogance coming from them makes you want to hate their favourite player and insist on his flaws (for me, since the beginning, much before I became a Nadal's fan, it was his smugness).

Actually, you are the kind of fan that disgusts me from Federer. I can't talk about Sampras' fans. And I can't talk about all Nadal's fans. But for me, Federer is a greater player than Sampras. He's also a greater player than Nadal. The H2H is not a good reason to say something else. But the disdain and the disrespect of fans like you who attack Nadal on everything and don't tolerate any critics about Federer (untouchable) makes me want to vomit on Federer. If you read my posts, you will see that I can say negative things about your favourite player (because that's what I think) but I also defend his case when I think the critics are not deserved. All you do when you see another player's name is bashing.

I agree, there are extreme fans on both sides. The proportion is still different IMO. Count the number of cheap attacks from Fed's fans against Nadal. It's scaring. What happens, I think, is that the only player who really made suffer Federer's fans on a consistent basis is Nadal. It's different for Nadal's fans. But, really, in Federer's fans case, all their hate is on Nadal. For Nadal's fans, it's not the same: other players were dangerous for him. Anyway, don't tell me that there are as many attacks against Federer coming from Nadal's fans as the opposite.

Sorry but that's pretty weak, you can think with your own head can you? Allowing one group of people which really has no personal connection with him to affect your personal opionion on a player to such degree(from not "hating" to "hating" him as you say) is a bit silly to say the least.

I personally form my opinion on a player based on my own observation of his game and behaviour on court, interviews etc. I use my own eyes and head.Don't care one iota what his so called fanatics do in his name as no player is responsible for his fans actions(even in extremes situations like Seles's stabbing let alone something harmless as babbling away on a internet forum).

Oh and BTW Nadal fans are hardly innocent and exemplary in their behavior as well,so playing this victim card-Fed fans are so terrible for hating on Nadal-l and similar isn't really working that well when they themselves hurl insults towards Fed quite often along with some Sampras fans as well. That's all part of basically any internet forum so not that big of a deal but let's not act like only one side is throwing mud here.

On the whole I like him but the things I dont like about him:

1. Talk that he is the GOAT when clearly is not yet. Sampras, Laver, and Borg among Open Era players are superior for now. He should be talked about as a top 4 player of the Open Era, but not the greatest of all time yet.

2. His behavior during the AO ceremony last year. Just unacceptable.

3. His attitude towards Davis Cup and the Olympics.

4. His sometimes bitter and sore loser attitude after defeats.

Oh C'mon every player on TW gets called out and attacked. Personally i think Federer gets it easy on TW; as most threads are about kissing his ass and like i said previously, posters dig up stats about how great he is.

Look at the posters who treat Murray and Rios or even Safin/Nalbandian and Roddick like total ****, then come back and tell me Federer gets hate.

Federer might get hate but it's because he's good. Players like Murray get hate and treated like runts on this board because they haven't won slams yet. In other words; Federer gets positive hate and a lot of others get negative hate.

#2 bothered me since I felt it took away from Nadals moment. He said he felt bad for his friend Federer, and that wasnt right, he should have been able to enjoy his only moment. Now a year later it is becoming increasingly clear Nadal might well never experience victory at another hard court slam, while Federer has experienced 8 with probably more to come, yet Nadal had to have his moment cut in with a self pitying display for poor Federer. I actually like Federer more than Nadal who I was never a fan of, but I still feel that was not right at all.

I agree with you about the golden manbag and the Wimbledon attire.

Sampras and Borg are subjective of course. I consider Borg more of a 14 slam winner than an 11 though given the Aussie Open status back then. Federer is a 16 slam winner but when comparing him to Sampras and Borg one should take into account the quality of competition each faced. To clearly be in front Federer must IMO continue to widen the gap to compensate for the overall competition inferiority (though that is closing as well with the improving field). I also just feel Sampras at his best played too big for Federer and is a superior overall player, while Borg was like a slightly better version of the main aspects of Nadal in addition to much better serving and net play so IMO he would be an absolutely nightmare for Federer to play. Of course some of that is my opinion, but either way I think it is way premature to crown Federer the undisputed GOAT especialy over Laver.

I'm sorry, it's a caricature of my words. I repeat: I've never liked him a lot, even before Nadal. Coria was my favourite player in 2004/2005. He was not a likeable guy, but I'm a clay court tennis lover. I like Federer's game, but it's not exciting for me to watch. And the guy was certainly more likeable than Coria, but I wouldn't like him for his personality either.
That being said, I've always thought that Federer was globally correct. One year ago, I wouldn't even have said what I thought about his smugness. But I've seen so many insults coming from his fans that it really goes on my nerves.
It can explain some posts from other players' fans, don't you think? At least, it explains some of mine.

P.S.: I can think with my own head, don't worry. If I wanted to be rough, I would say something else, but personal insults are not welcome.

LOL. there's no argument for Sampras being superior. Clay & clay alone is sufficient to disqualify sampras from the GOAT talk, especially after Fed's achievements. Sampras has an inferior overall game when compared to Fed. At their respective peak forms, Fed wins IMO.

Attitude towards olympics? WTF are you smoking? He just won the gold medal for doubles.
