Can play either L2/L3. L2 typically for Yonex, L3 for everyone else. I've gone back and forth over the years but I think L3 wins out. But I'm not too picky between them.

I grew up playing with L5, but now L4 feels big, and L1 is toooo small.

L3 at the moment. Used to be L5 and have worked and settled in at L3 these days. Heads grip shape is my favorite with Yonex right behind it. Wilson is the worst by far for me but I hold way down on the handle and the flared cap doesn't sit right in my palm.

Hand size chart would put me in a L5

L2 now with no grip, just an over grip.

Was on L4 with leather before that and L3 for all racquets prior to the L4 (pretty long break in the middle.)

The move to L2 was after demoing racquets from a pro I've taken lessons from after some of mine broke. He prefers smaller grip and a hard feel under the over grip and I adjusted while demoing.

Measured hand size would put me at L4 iirc

L4, leather grip, Volkl V-Dry OG. works wonders for me, though I don’t seem to love my wilson grip shape like I did with a Yonex I tried.

L4, I do have a lot of L5 rackets as well

Currently on Yonex but no issues with any brands unless they have a sharp buttcap edges (old Pro Staff for example, or modern Prince...) and poorly would or damaged replacement grip wrapping which exposes the hand to it more easily.

L2 for head or prince or wilson - regular replacement grip, no overgrip
L1 for head or prince or wilson - regular replacement grip and overgrip
L1 for yonex or babloat - regular replacement grip, no overgrip

I'm not picky, I'll use literally anything that's 4 1/4 or bigger, and have no issue using 4 5/8 or even my one 4 3/4 (Prince Woodie) rackets. I adapt within a couple shots then don't think about it anymore.

L4 on Head TK82s with thinner, firmer basegrip
L3 on TF (modified to more squarish)
L3 on Yonex and Babolat

My hand "measures" upper end of L4 (4 1/2)

I like the babolat and prince grip shapes the best (more rounded). I usually prefer a l2 1/4 but the frames I have I couldn’t get in a 2 so I use a 3 with Tourna thin and the Kimoney overgrips. They feel great and makes the handle feel like a firm g2.

L3 with a thin (0.4-0.55mm) overgrip. I’ve played Babolat for so long (25 years) that I’ve forgotten the grip shapes of other major brands.

L4 - Primary Choice
L5 - Older, Cool Rackets

I have a loose wrist (most of the time) and some hypermobility so too small a grip really messes with my consistency. The larger grip also lets me "lock and push" when I am forced to.

L4 all my adult life.
L3 feels better on serve and makes it easier to loosen up wrist for topspin, but I develop blisters way quicker while using it. And it sometimes twists a little in my hand on volleys and returning heavy serves.

Used #5 in high school and college. I then downsized to a #4 when I picked the game up again because of “the trend”. I recently bought my next batch of racquets with a #3 as I realized I had no issues with #3 demos. I can adjust to any grip shape as any skilled player should be able to do. I was using Dunlop in HS, Head during college, then Babolat, new Head, and now Prince. I currently feel very comfortable with the Prince grip shape.

You should try what I've been doing the last 5 years: L3, but w/ a thicker base grip and an L4 butt cap.

Like you, I'd used L4 most of my adult life. But, I found it hard to resell frames as most players today are L3 (as evidence by this poll). So, I changed to L3, replace the butt cap w/ an L4 butt cap, and use something like Tecnifibre Wax Max (2.1mm) or Prince ResiSoft (2.2mm) base grip. This brings me to "L3+", but the larger butt cap makes it feel more like an L4.

L3 Wilson new cap. I'm mixed on if I actually like the oversize cap in the handle. Starting to get used to it, but I think it would be better with a smaller cap.

I've been a grip #3 (4-3/8") lifer. From growing up w/ the Agassi Radicals to the current gen Speed and PA98. Never had an extended period w/ anything smaller. I demoed the PA98 in both #2 and #3, but didn't find any significant difference in my playing experience.

However, for the past 2 months, I've been playing w/ the GT98 pre-release, and it's in grip #2. The biggest thing I noticed was how much looser my wrist and grip were through contact. It's most obvious on high, heavy balls.

I've been thinking about entertaining playing w/ the PA98 at grip #2, but the idea of selling my PAs and re-buying them at a smaller grip size seems exhausting.

Higher than high is what? I casted 5 but I'm a natural 6 and something.

I really cannot play at the net with less than 5

You could always swap out the stock grip for a thinner replacement grip. May help you with the looser grip and you won’t be too sensitive to the inbetween grip size since you like both. Can always put some lead on the pallet or in the handle to compensate for any weight differences.

4-3/4" was available in the 90s all the way till Ncode 90s. And then there are the crazies who go even bigger..
I have a Wilson T 2000 grip 6 at home...

Crazy... With grip 4 my fingers are in contact with the wrist on the other side and I cannot firmly grip to volley. Men with large hands exist.

I see a lot of players using a 3 and putting on 2 or 3 overgrips. This is also crazy.
