What's your favorite Poly and Syn Gut hybrid?

I've been experimenting with hybrids recently, I've tried Solinco Confidential 16L with Gosen OGSM 16 as well as Solinco Tour Bite Soft 16L with Solinco Pro Stacked 16, and on deck I have Weiss Cannon Ultra Cable with Gosen OGSM 16 to try. I've strung everything so far at 55 in the mains and 53 in the crosses. Curious to know your guys' thoughts on hybrid set-ups?

Ultra Cable is going to shred the everliving F out of Gosen OGSM.

Hybrids are a great tool for players who really like a particular string full-bed, but want to emphasize or de-emphasize one or two aspects of the main string. You could want a little less power, a little more spin, a little more feel, a little more softness and most combinations are achievable by mixing in the appropriate hybrid.

OGSM is wonderfully crisp while also being soft on the arm. However, it does not have the durability or the slickness to stand up to something so sharply edged like Ultra Cable. I expect such a combination to play wonderfully for 30 mins to 2 hours, before the OGSM notches like crazy and locks up your mains.

If you are looking to soften up UC, I suggest something like Tier One Ghostwire.

Is there much point doing syn gut mains, poly crosses?
I'm playing with a racquet that is currently nat gut mains, poly crosses. If/when it breaks I was thinking of trying syn/poly cause it's cheaper.

I tried that. Nope. To much difference. I lost the spin and control I want/need. I went from VS Gut and hyperG to Wilson Synthetic gut.

I also play syn gut mains and poly crosses most of the time. Doesn't last very long but gives more power without losing too much spin and control. Great for touch volleys

I used to play poly mains and syn gut crosses. Great durability but once syn gut notches you lose any spin benefits although it playsnfsirly consistent from there. Nothing special. Found full bed poly to be more preferable unless you need a softer cross to save your arm

Since one month I play with Velocity ( multifilament) main and Element cross., and yes absolutely, it gives me a better feel at net, power is slightly superior, and spin/control is at the same level than a fb of element, and the most important thing: it’s soft soft soft ! Like a pillow.

I would like to try a syn gut mains instead of multi like Velocity. Just received a set of gamma syn gut, will be my first test

I am currently using a prince warrior pro 100 racquet. Wilson syn gut mains at 58lbs and rox stiff force poly at 52lbs in crosses.

Have also used pros pro syn gut in mains with intense heat crosses 58lbs/48lbs. I find intense heat very stiff compared to a lot of other polys. Prefer wilson syn gut though. Seems a bit more lively

I'm recently trying out hybrids. The setup with Hyper-G 17(1.20mm) gauge mains at 51lbs and Prince Synthetic-gut duraflex crosses at 55lbs works well for me.

How did you find PP Syn gut in mains as I have just bought the same strings as you but waiting for my old strings to finish. TIA

The PP syn gut mains are not awful. The white and natural colour compare my preference. The other colours seem to come off on the ball and fade. Otherwise play the same. They notch and get stuck out of place pretty quickly within the first hitting session or by second set of doubles. I prefer them strung at upper end of tension as they tend to stretch a fair amount initially. After that the play consistent until they break.

It is a cost effective setup that is soft on the arm. Doesn't do anything amazing but also doesn't do anything terrible either. You have to find a tension you like though. I find them too unpredictable when strung loosely. I also like multi mains but they break way too quickly

Thanks for that. How do you find the combo play ? I tend to string my S.Gut/Poly @ 55/53 on my Phamtom 100 18x20 and I string every 2 weeks.

How often do you play in those two weeks and singles or doubles? I play almost 95% doubles twice a week and my setup would last about 3 weeks at most.

I like the soft touch at net and low angled slices this setup allows me to play. I mostly play net and come on asap and very seldom rally from baseline. So I guess if you are looking for a lot of top spin this may not be the best setup. It is more durable than a FB syn gut though and plays with more spin as well.

10 hours a week of singles, I do play at the baseline and try to come to the net when I can and finish off the point. I hit flat both forehand and backhand, very true on the slices as it actually a weapon for me instead of a defence shot. I do like the strings when its time to string, does that mean I should be stringing lower ?

Syn gut mains and poly crosses here too.
Gosen OGSM 18 mains at 56
Luxilon TiMO crosses at 52.
Once I'm out of TiMO, it's MSV Hex Focus 18 in the crosses.

Currently trying Gamma Synthetic Gut 130 on mains at 50.5 lb and Gamma Jet 17 at 45 lbs on crosses, and even if there's less bite than velocity / element, it's really really soft and good, i can generate spin enough, it's more powerful, control similar to velocity/element, but softer. (a real pillow. This is very interesting, because the Gamma Jet is stiffer than Element !)
