What's your resting heart rate?

When I first got a Fitbit almost 3 years ago my resting HR was around 65.

I have put in a LOT of work these past 3 years, shed just shy of 30# a lot of work on the court and off.

My resting HR now is between 52-54 ....

While asleep it drops to 40-42.

Pleased with myself.

Only drawback is that my blood pressure has also dropped ... now 90/60 just like in my 20s ... don't stand up quickly though .. instantly dizzy.
Well done!
My blood pressure is also around 90/60 but I don’t get dizzy. (heartrate about 45-47)
Could your lightheadedness be caused by something else?

I have no idea. Even as a HS/College athlete when I was 10X as fit as I am now, if I stood up too quickly after being seated for a while, I had best grab onto something or I was going down.

When my blood pressure was higher during not-in-shape middle years I never had the dizziness.

Only happens if I have been seated or lying down for a while and then stand up quickly. Fairly easy to avoid.

Sounds like it could be a form of vasovagal syncope. Always had pretty low blood pressure too. I've had what seemed like random fainting spells since H.S finally talked to a Dr. about it after getting to the point of fainting a few times. Basically, things like emptying your bladder at night or getting up to quickly, can stimulate the vagus nerve creating a sudden drop in blood pressure. We all get it to a point, but when you already have low blood pressure, you don't have as much of a buffer before you have the dizziness or end up fainting. At least, that's my understanding of it for now.

Resting heart rate for the past week on my Garimin Vivoactive - 45.
Blood Pressure during office visit for a vasectomy: 102/70. Wonder what it would be under less anxious circumstances...lol.

Interesting .... it doesn't happen often enough that it gives me great concern and is totally manageable

I am certain yours is much lower without the anxiety!

I do wonder about one thing .... I take 1 day off from tennis/exercise per week. And today is the day. So when I look at my resting heart rate chart, it always has a 3+ bpm spike every Wednesday. Seems counter-intuitive for it to be higher on my rest day than on the day I put in 4 hours.

It seems like my rhr is higher on the days I am not exercising to some extent as well. No clue how that works or if it's consistent from person to person

Some of the posted resting HRs, if true, and combined with decent VO max, would make Miguel Indurain a physical wimp in comparison.

I don't think the postings are untrue (could be, but I like to believe in people) but wonder how accurate the measuring devices we're using are. I take both my rhr and vo2 max with a heavy grain of salt from my vivoactive 3.

Not only the accuracy of the devices is important. It is also important when the resting HR is measured. Obviously, the best way to measure VO max (and HR, lactate threshold etc) will be in a sports lab.

Vat of coffee this morning so BRP was already up to 76, but normal is around 60. No workout of any type this year at all and up 20 pounds. I just call it a cheat year. :D

Blood pressure this morning was 107/70, but normal is around 120/80. Worst gets me up to 149/90.

I imagine that most folks that hang around here are better than average - but that's because the average is so bad.

I went to a 25th reunion dinner last night. The things that stood out to me: the amount of gray hair, and, how overweight the men were. It appears to me that the women there (small percentage) either workout or do a better job at maintaining a normal weight.

Interestingly - and spot on with so many articles out their on the benefit of tennis - as much as I see a lot of gray hair and overweight people on court, by-and-far those out playing tennis are still in better shape than the majority of people I see at the same age in general. Especially for those that play leauges or some other consistent tennis.

I find that tennis has a better impact on some health metrics than running does. I do mostly steady-state running so that's understandable. The HIIT nature of tennis means that it beats out a lot of other low-intensity workouts, even if you're not in the best of shape. I do do HIIT running intervals but they aren't my favorite. I just like to go running with a good podcast or music and not think about the exercise aspect.

When I am actually working out and training I do 80% HIIT and body weight work and only 20% weights. I don't even do much cardio at that point.

That's the most efficient way to workout. It's just not the most pleasant way.

Another reason women outlive men. Plus they prob want to.

Update: Mine is 53 now, but still no where close to some of y'all almost deadbeats

Nice work in a year!

Mine still hovers in that 51-53 range.

Long distance athlete husband keeps getting denied for giving blood as his resting drops to the low 40s when seated ... his work around is to do pushups before they come in to test him and gives blood/platelets while standing up. Not bad for over 50yo

48yo. 255lbs. Resting heart rate 36-38 most ams. After hard work out next am may be 42.

Was college athlete football and club cycling in offseason (funnel for offensive line man)

Funny enough had a Bell’s palsy 5 years ago. Went to er to confirm and make sure not having a stroke. And is I meditate and relax/breathe can usually get below thirty within 5-10min. Lows around 35. Was fun to mess w nurses and set off bradycardia alarms ever 20-30 min.

and I have weighed 189 (wrestling weight) to 340 since age 18 w most of spent around current weight.

My Apple Watch says 43. I’m 66 y.o. Weigh 155. Stand about 5’7.5” on a good day. I hit everyday if I can since late 2019 (I still feel like a beginner— an injury forced me to play with my non-dominant hand, and I began to play with my dominant hand after it healed).

I’ve had both hips replaced. Do a yoga workout daily and walk hills 3-5 x a week. I paddle an outrigger canoe with friends once a week.

My shoulder is killing me, so I had to go back to playing left-handed. :(

Isn't the heart recovery rate more relevant though?
