That horrendous night I shed tears in my bed.

Nice job playing 5d chess.

Making the thread about Rafa Nadal without even mentioning Rafa Nadal.

Brilliant indeed

I really didn't think about Rafael Nadal while making this painful thread.

Murray breaking his body to play every event while the rest of the top 10 fell to pieces.

Murray numbers and level from MC 2016 to WTF 2016 were very impressive. Shame it probably ruined him had he not chased it so hard he could have been fitter to keep playing at top level.

Why the crying over a match that was essentially a blowout? It's not like Djokovic held MP's or came anywhere close to winning the match. Andy won it 6-3, 6-4 with little drama. All credit to Andy for busting his ass to end 2016 as YE #1. The only other player in the OE who worked as hard to do it was Sampras and that was only one year.

I didn't think Murray was going to win the final. I thought he would come in exhausted after the Raonic match.

I thought so too especially as Djokovic had cruised through his matches dropping only 1 set (in his opening match against Thiem) . Murray had to draw on every ounce of remaining energy. His guts and determination to see it through to the finish got him there.

It was Djokovic who broke your heart and not Murray - Murray was only the instrument who aided his self-destruction. Why in hades did Novak suddenly stop playing well at Wimbledon 2016 after being the BOAT for a year and why did he continue to play poorly for the rest of that year? I don’t think his elbow was the reason yet for his drop in form. These kind of unexplained slumps are going to cost him the GOAT title that he would deserve if he finishes close to Nadal in Slams.

Ma'am that really was a display of how difficult it is for non big3 players to break into and maintain top3 rankings.
Especially the world no1 spot, which we see all 3 of the guys capturing it year after another, efficiently and effortlessly (or so we think), but for a player not on their level, it could cost him his entire career.

I attended the match and felt the opposite reactions to the OP.

I wept tears of joy that evening.

You're even more of a softie than I am...lol.:p

I didn't weep but I did do a little jig around the living room which I hadn't done since 2013 Wimbledon. :)

Not his first slam?

I was excited about that for sure but I think I was more relieved that he had broken his Slam duck whereas winning Wimbledon the first time was just pure ecstacy given that, following Henman and Rusedski's failed attempts, I never expected to see a British winner there in my lifetime.

He remains the only player so far to complete the Beijing-Shanghai-Vienna-Paris-WTF quintuple.
Quite impressive. For how far behind we consider Murray in the pecking order, he’s accomplished some incredible feats that not even the big 3 could do.
