The only match I can think of that possibly reached a higher quality than this is Federer Youzhny 2017 US OpenWhen he beat Fed in WC SF... duh.
Don't bring that nonsense up.The only match I can think of that possibly reached a higher quality than this is Federer Youzhny 2017 US Open
I feel like Raonic is trying to transition into like a Struff or kinda Berrettini player where he relies on his serve to just set up an easy put away. His game was a lot cleaner when he relied more on point construction and all court tennis.I thought 2016 was just the beginning for him - I believed Raonic had the potential to be at least a borderline ATG, win a few Wimbledons, maybe a HC Slam, end a year or two as #1. He had the efficiency and the mentality of an ATG, with a serve and net game among the best in the business.
Then 2017 hit and the injuries started coming nonstop for him. When I saw his disastrous 2018 comeback with his slowed movement, diminished fitness, and complacent baseline grinding, I knew that dream was dead. Wimbledon 2019 was the final nail in the coffin - an exhibition of mental muggery he may never be able to live down. I still hold out hope that he will have his one moment of Wimbledon glory, but time is no longer on his side.
They don't call him LostGen for nothing...
Raonic does best when he ditches the baseline grinding and just plays pure serve & volley. That's what he did often in 2016, and that's what he's good at. He would've been a fiend on 90's grass.I feel like Raonic is trying to transition into like a Struff or kinda Berrettini player where he relies on his serve to just set up an easy put away. Fixed it for you.He is the first of many trash lost next gen.

I think this seals it.I realized this when he had a peak run pumping gif material at a rate that is simply not fit for mere mortals
This, along with the swimsuit model, got him into the Pantheon

Alas, such form could not be sustainable

In modern tennis era, Murray is the last person to put up a challenge against or to brag about your game when you only rely on a big serve. Murray's returning capacities are frustratingly awesome.I still fondly recall a persistent poster (can't recall who it was now) back in 2012 or thereabouts who kept posting that Raonic was bound to dominate the tour because nobody would be able to handle his serve which was admittedly very scary back then. Even Raonic himself seemed to believe the hype because he said something similar ahead of his match with Murray at the US Open that year (he had beaten Murray on clay earlier that year) until Murray showed him how effectively he was able to handle it.
2016 marked the high point of Raonic's career with semi-finals at the AO and the WTF (both nail-bitingly close matches with Murray) and beating Federer to reach the final of Wimbledon (straight sets loss to Murray but only 1 service break). After that injuries kicked in and slowed him down. Apart from the occasional flash of form he has been a shadow of his former self ever since.

Raonic does not rely on just his serve. His net game is among the best in the business (which isn't saying much in today's game, but still). In modern tennis era, Murray is the last person to put up a challenge against or to brag about your game when you only rely on a big serve.
