When is a grip 'done'?

At the moment I am testing some rackets to get a new frame, but this raised the question for me.
I have been playing with the same frame ( Wilson six.one 95 ) for about 5-6 years. I have two frames and I play an avarage of 2 hours a week. I play some tournaments in the summer, but not all too many.

When I last changed my overgrip I noticed I almost ripped my base grip when trying to pull off the overgrip. The brand I use has a small sticky patch in the beginning so help you put on the grip, this is what ripped my basegrip. The base grip also doesn't really look good anymore. (this is still the factory base grip, I have never changed the base grip).

How often would you sugges changing a basegrip? Even when you have overgrips on your frame 100% of the time.

i've almost never changed basegrips...
that said, i change my overgrip after every time i play.

sounds like you're more concerned about the aethestics... cuz once you put an overgrip on top, it's doesn't matter, right?

Depending on the grip material you may lose some padding once it gets worn out especially the thicker plush PU type grips. Leather not so much

I change my OG whenever I have to grip the handle hard to prevent the frame from rotating. That's maybe 8-10 hours of use. When the OG begins to lose its tackiness, I will change it. As far as base grips, if you do not sweat thru the OG, the base grip will be fine. If you compress the base grip because you do not have a loose grip on the handle, replace the base grip. FWIW, I do not use the sticky part on grips and OGs. I snip those parts off and then start wrapping.

So lets say it averages bout 520 strokes per match.
6-4, 6–4 match avg match
Once a match or less...

Or I just look at and deem it needs a change.
Replacement grip, once it losses it original mm thickness feel..

All subjective man....
Rituals can be good...

When it flies out your hand and skulls someone.
That’s a pretty good barometer of judging its time to rip that thang off immediately, if not sooner.

I have new overgrip for every new match, sometimes even change them mid match if I feel racket sliding

Not so much, as I don't think this is a priority.

Indeed, I am talking about padding and such.. I always play with overgrips, but the base grip is flat as it can be. How long you'd say padding lasts? Because it decreases so slowly it's hard to tell an exact moment.

Dunno I use leather grips so not much padding to begin with. I'd say you're safe changing the base grip every 6 months if you use PU

I can feel less padding maybe in 7-8 matches (~15 to 20 hrs)
