When is HS tennis season in your state ?

thank you, Maryland is forcing the girls to play in the spring, at the same time as the boys. It is a foolish idea;
1) courts must be shared
2) coaches must choose to coach girls or boys
3) Bad weather
4) it will limit participation

Why are the switching girls' tennis season to Spring?

yeah the boys and girls seasons need to be split up. like you mentioned, shared courts and not enough court time that's needed for all the players is the biggest one.

April 21 - May 15 for Boys and Girls. That's a really short season but reflects the weather here (NH). I have seen court-contention issues between the teams in the past. The next city over schedules one team after the other. That might result in shorter practice times. I assume that they try not to schedule home meets on the same day.

Because Montgomery County Maryland has dominated the state tournament. They are the only county in the state that has the girls in the fall and the boys in the spring. The other counties feel the Montgomery County girls have an unfair advantage playing in the fall. So, the other counties voted that all students must play in the same season as the state tournament to be eligible ... which means they must play in the spring.

The boys tennis season starts March 1 in Montgomery County. We have to deal with cold weather and snow. The girls do not get much snow when they start in August.

In my opinion, anyone can practice tennis at anytime, anywhere. If the other schools feel Montgomery county has an unfair advantage, what's stopping them from practicing tennis in the fall anyway? Not Montgomery's fault they are so dam good. The other schools can be too if they put in the work to match them in the "off season" in the fall time.

I grew up (Seattle, WA) with boys and girls tennis both in the Spring.
Now my son (Issaquah, WA) will be playing in the Fall. Girls tennis is in the Spring.

We've been getting so many rainy days lately. I don't know where the girls had their try-outs and where they are practicing and playing matches?

My son plays indoors from Fall until late Spring. But then has all summer to play outdoors to acclimate to outdoor play when Fall tennis rolls around. I feel bad for the girls that have played only indoors over the winter and have to deal with jump onto outdoor courts. However, I'm assuming the teams all face the same challenge.

My son has not entered HS yet, so don't know the State tournament schedule.

There might be some rules about this. Mandated "off season" practices could be a violation of some rules that are in place. Even so, it might happen anyway.

There are no mandated off-season practices anywhere in Maryland. The best players play year round in private clinics and private lessons. The notion that the MoCo girls have a special advantage playing in the fall is absurd.

Around here, anyone on the HS varsity team and many on the JV team attend private clinics year round here. But playing in the Fall has an advantage of having outdoor courts available during the summer for additional practice leading into the sport season. I suppose in the Spring, everyone forgot how to play outdoors.

East of the Cascade mountains, it's a lot dryer, so if the girls State champs is at the end of Spring, then I suppose there is a slight inequity there. But not much.
