So invested that he didn't take part this year. ;)
fedr broke him...literally. Blame it on Félix for choking the SF.

Meanwhile, despite beating RBA the week before, Fritz was not up to making 3R today and became the final nail in the coffin for American hopes at RG.

Andy asked me to fix that for you.

It is now 20 years since an American man last made the final of RG (1999 Agassi). Serena and Sloane still flying Old Glory for the good ol' You-Ess-Of-A.

No, Courier stopped him before ‘95 and the elder Medvedev seemed ready to deny him again in ‘99, the year of fedr’s first appearance. Nice comeback, quite like Lendl in ‘84 vs JMac.

Poor JMac, he says he's still in therapy about that one. Mentions it in practically every RG episode of Game, Schett and Mats. :p

Sad for Mac; if he only knew the drop volley by then! Ivan would have had to wait a little bit moar!

not looking good. maybe offer Medvedev US citizenship?

I'm pretty sure that he could get a green card if he wanted it. I think that you just have to promise to start a business with something like $1 million here and employ some number of people. Then start the path to citizenship. Any of the top players could do this and many have done so in the past. There are better places in terms of paying less taxes though.

Fritz has the ability but he needs to get his head straight. He is often frustrated out on the court despite his talent and athleticism.

I love Tommy Paul's game but he needs more to crack the tippy top. It's always fun to see a player taking it to the next level but it doesn't actually happen that often.

It’s happening!
Is it really though? I think tiafoe will be eliminated in short order by dimitrov and paul isn't going through Sinner and Medvedev back to back. Which only leaves Fritz. He certainly has a chance but I don't think many people would disagree that he is only the 4th best player remaining in the draw.

Fritz has the talent but he's quite moody on the court. He's been doing a better job at controlling his emotions lately.

Hmm, both Americans in the quarters at this point have winnable quarters. Could be an all-American semifinal if Fritz can just de-Ziraffe the tournament for us. I think Tiafoe can take out Dimitrov, though the older guy has been demonstrating the Lost Generation was probably better than this one lately.

Its so difficult on mens tour. The top players are always occupied by europe who will be the slam contenders. Very difficult for USA unless they produce top talent who will challenge grand slams consistently.
Right now is the best chance because there are 5 men in top 20. They will have chances. Who will have it all together to win the final match is to be seen.

It is not the importance as much as the want for it to happen. USA used to be a powerhouse in tennis. Then all of a sudden Roddick appears and poof!....yeah, you had Blake, Fish, etc... but for Roddick, all hopes for American tennis were on him, and sadly he did not live up to most peoples expectations, partly because of Fed. Americans miss the days where there would be an American winner at least every year....unfortunately, that is not happening right now... I am still waiting for the next NZ player to arise. When do you think that will be? Please......amuse me.
Roddick clones (like Fritz) clearly show the decline of men's tennis in that country over the last two decades.

They keep winning Boys slams and then their growth doesn’t keep pace on the Men's tour. World class movement is needed to win at the elite level while the US men‘s forte is usually only power.

Right now I think the best candidate is Ben Shelton, only if he settles down from his phone hang-up antics. Fritz had his chances but at 27 and limited movement will not get another chance.

Boys and Girls slams are on par with adult doubles talent, a very bad barometer for future success
