i'd rahter pay to see him play than Roddick.
he was real close in beating Fed last year at the Us Open. Choking on multiple set points! Damn!

he needs to learn to despise losing to Fed already; quit creaming on his every stroke, Blake! Geesus! you let the americans down last year in Flushing.. pls do better this yr.

this "i am not owrhty" mentality has got to Go!

sorry but I think Blake has passed his prime, short but a nice prime. You just don't see the same Blake when he had his last break through. maybe being too comfortable? don't know, hope i am wrong though...

breakthru?

Blake had a chance a year or so ago, he has never made the big leap at a major event, and I hate to say it but I think his time to have done it is gone ~

so i was sitting at the UCLA tennis center today, when two guys came out on the courts. it was roddick and blake, so i got to see them hit for awhile at the empty center court. btw andy makes bad calls haha

Blake is a big contender for the hard court season--the only thing he lacks is a solid-solid game plan.

He seems to go out there and hopes to win with general technical strategies.

well first he needs to get his head working. when he was playing this one match he just looked lazy like me. he didn't chase balls he just tried to hit winners and when his opponent hit one just a little outta reach he wouldn't try. its all mental for him right now. physically he is capable

Poor guy. I remember when he was this young super-athletic hotshot with lots of hair and lots of energy and big hops. Then he had that book's worth of tragedy in his life, then came back with the full Agassi transformation, bald head and everything. He got the short end of the stick.

He'll have more good moments, like the Masters last year, but the consistency is just not there, and never will be there.

A) That was 2005.

b) Blake lost in the first round (technally 2nd since he had a BYE), Had 4 Match points and choked on all of them, and lost 2-6, 7-6 7-6.

I was there, I'm from the New Haven Area, so I was shocked and pissed off as everyone there.

Blake needs at least an A game to compliment his 'Go for Broke' game. Until then he technical inability to play a safer power baseline game will lead fans to mistakenly think he is mentally weak or lacks fight.

His breakthrough was in January in Sydney. He beat Moya in the final. He played some guys in pretty good form in the AO(Gonzalez), and at Wimbledon (Ferrero).

A B game you mean?

New Balls Please !!!!!

I think Blake has already broken through and that was last year. As much as I would like more for the guy, his time has passed. :-(

break thru....? never, i guess.....
it is over for blake......
not to mention grand slam, as the GS is belongs to federer and nadal for years to come...
masters.....? i doubt it too......still mostly belongs to federer and nadal, unless both of them do not play. then it is belongs to everybody......

Too many times, we associate "BreakThroughs" with win the biggest title possible. Unfortunately, a breakthrough is really someone maximizing their inherent potential and performing at the highest possible level that he or she is capable of. Blake's already hit that point. For him to make a breakthrough beyond where he's already been, there would have to be a lot of misfortune in terms of better players.

I think that description is perfect. I think Roddick gets such knocks because he disappoints people with his play (and of course himself, I empathize with that). He does have some technics, no one can deny that, but when the opponent starts changing up or raises there game, Roddick just seems to break down into bits and pieces of this or that, a serve here, a pass there, but it's just not enough. It's like he cannot match them then. Blake seems to do the same to me. I think Blake might have a small spike in the next year or so, but overall I think he is going to glide out and remain a perimeter player.

did roddick call foot fault from the other side of the court.

roddick was wearing all white and babalot shoes, but then took off his shirt later (temp was hot), and blake was wearing a dark nike shirt, white shorts, nike shoes and a hat. he was using his blacked out dunlops. and roddick had a set of pure drives that were of different weights, because before they started to hit he weighed them in his hand.

the bad call came when blake pounded a really nice forhand downtheline and roddick called it out, but it was actually inside the line. so later blake then called one of andy's shots out and andy yelled out "WOW JAMES!" and threw his racket from the baseline over the net. then later i heard blake talking about nadal but couldnt really make out what he was saying.

it was pretty cool though cuz just before they came my friend and i were about to leave the stadium, but we ended up staying and watched them play

Good First Serve. Good Forehand. Moves Well. Major Choker.

I don't think he has beaten anyone in the top twenty all year; has he?

Read the excerp from James' new book in tennis mag and it brought a tear to my eye. I am going to pick up the book next week.
Blake is one of the good guys on tour and it should be a very interesting read.

In way, Blake and Gasquet play similar mental attitude.
They only have two modes: 1. error mode 2. zoning mode.

They both need some consistent basis that can carry them thru tough times.

The worry is that Gasquet might end up like Blake who is prolly
getting a bit too late for a true break-out.
