When Will Federer's -Semifinal or Greater in GSs- Record End?

Everyone seems to be catching up to him. Or perhaps he's just slipped a bit back into the lower ranks. However you wanna look at it, he's getting more competition, and at some point, his great record is going to come to an end. I think that there is a definite possibility that it could happen this year. Everyone is on a more equal level as him, and in the past couple of AOs and the most recent FO, he really had to fight to place where he did.

In the last 5 years or so, it seems that the AO and the FO have been his least successful slams- so I guess somewhere there (most likely AO).

That being said, though, the latest generation to come up in the ranks are all big hitters who play their best tennis on fast hardcourts- so this could happen at the USO.

Probably not at Wimbledon, though. The grass field is too shallow to knock Fed out before the semi's.

It could be sooner than we all think, remember Del Potro is #5 and if he stays there Fed could draw him in quarters.

Then there's always the possibility that he could draw a dangerous opponent for him even earlier such as Gilles Simon.

I think sometime in 2010. That said, I definitely thought it would end in 2009

22/22 and 10/10 are among the greatest (if not the greatest) streaks in tennis history

Semi-final streak: not until he retires. Too many moronic chokers in slams. The minute Fed smells fear, it's over.

It would be a miracle if Federer could keep his streak alive until 2011. I'm pretty sure that Federer will lose early (for his standards) in either AO or RG, or maybe even both.

Well it would be amazing if it lasted in 2010 as well! :)
But I somehow doubt it a bit...every streak comes to an end sooner or later. Unfortunately.

DP has one win over Federer and suddenly he owns him? Federer is 5-1 against the guy, and DP took five tough sets to beat him. Del Potro beating Federer is far from a given. As for Simon, Fed has lost to Simon in non-slam events. Nadal lost to Simon too last year in a non-slam event, but he destroyed him in the AO this year. Fed is a different beast at slams, and I will choose him as favorite over Simon on any surface.

If Fed could get to 30 semis in a row that would be the greatest record, IMO, in tennis history. Even more than 15+ slams.

Interesting thread, imo it is harder for the average ATP-tour player to beat Federer on clay than on HC, you might think im stupid now? Ill explain it...
Federer has been extremely consistent in RG and has only lost to 1 player since 2005, in USO also only lost to 1 player since 2004 and in AO he has lost to 3 players since 2003. What im trying to say is that it takes a lot more to beat Fed on clay (In a GS) than on HC, some big guys can on their best day serve Federer out of a HC-slam, thats not gonna happen on clay.

To answer the OP:s question, id say in 2011. I see Feds last terrific GS-year in 2010, i think he will win at least 1 GS and at least make semis of the other ones. IF Federer dont win the YEC in London i think he will be extremely tough to beat in AO, he hasnt won it since 2007.

it's insane it's gone on this long--all the things that can happen in a major, he's been tempting fate for a long time. my guess is it happens sooner rather than later. whatever that means.

Did I at any point in my post say Del Potro owns Fed? I just stated what I think may be a possible way for the end to streak, never did I say it was a given.

Also if Del Potro rises to number 4 and Murray drops to number 5 that could also make things very interesting.

I think its bound to happen and is likely to happen next year. His level, especially on HC has (sadly) dropped considerably.
I think he knows that.
Lets see..
Its actually a pretty scary streak so it might even end if he starts feeling the pressure of keeping it up though I must say he's been excellent at dealing with pressure and his position in the sport.
