ITA is already a week behind last year in publishing preseason list and list of top freshmen/newcomers. The ITA must have the list as last week the All-American selections were published. The top 10 freshmen get in the Quali rd so ITA has already IDed those players. At least one freshman-Cannon Kingsley of OSU is in main draw. After watching the last two games of his challenger match vs Evan Song, it looks like he deserves the WC-he made beating an ATP 445 player (Evan Song) look easy. Evan was down 0-40 serving to stay in the match and was only able to save one matchpoint. You expect the top guys to hold serve but when a freshman makes breaking serve look easy-he's good. Switched over to that match after watching the 11+ deuce points and 6 missed break points of McNally as he tried to tied up the score 4-4 in his 1st set vs Geertz. Of course Brooksby is the top freshmen if he goes to college in Jan; I think the freshmen list will only include fall enrollees.

When the Tulsa AA selection list came out last week, there were around 250 alternates to the preQualis. I thought everyone eventually who wanted to play the 256 draw prequalis got in. Will be interesting to see if 200+ names fall off over the next couple weeks-sure some will drop off if they get in fall Future MDs or Qualis. Also amazing was that there are players in preQualis with ATP points (players outside the 160 already selected for Qualis/MD-each of those will have 16 Qualifiers from the lower rounds). Over 400 accepted between all 3 draws and still a lot on the alternate lists.

Now that I have started this thread, the ITA will probably publish lists today before post is even read...

It came out at 1pm today. Florida has 7 players on the preseason top 125 list (#3-#70), Stanford has 5, and Columbia, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and USC have 4 on the list.

Included in the top 10 freshmen/newcomers are US players Cannon Kingsley (OSU), Drew Baird (UCLA), and Andres Martin (GA Tech)

Jenson Brooksby will be ranked #1 once he enrolls at Baylor in January. As Brad Gilbert said after Brooksby beat Tomas Berdych in the first round of the US open "Brooksby will dominate college tennis, I mean dominate". Brooksby beat the #3 ranked Oliver Crawford 6-1, 6-2 at a futures event this summer.

Brooksby will be unranked on the first January rankings until he plays some matches. I believe that's the way it works for players not enrolled in the fall.

Fair enough. There is the official ranking and then there is reality. Baylor will put Jenson on line 1 and let the wins pile up. Brooksby has the highest ATP and UTR ranking of any player in collegiate tennis and it is just a matter of time before he has the highest ITA ranking.

Only concern is that Brooksby will turn pro before January. My intel says he is going to enroll but his summer was special and he may want to cash in his chips and turn pro.

His results and rankings make your prediction reasonable. Regardless it rarely works out that a freshman male wins the DI singles title. Paul Jubb will be back who’s had a solid pro summer and playing pro as well this fall. There’s other legit contenders as well. Good luck to Brooksby, it will be interesting following him next spring.

Ya, I'm trying to temper my expectations but it is hard. It may not work out for many freshman winning the D1 singles title but Brooksby is not your typical frosh. There are not many freshman who arrive on campus ranked 276 in the ATP rankings who just beat Tomas Berdych in the first round of the US Open and then took a top 20 player to 4 sets in round 2.
