We all anticipate the first time an aging great and and up and coming youngster play. When Roger beat Sampras it was a special moment. So when do you think Shapo will play Federer?

Poll may be updated based on feedback and will close if and when they play.

Grigolo failed, so now it's up to Shaps to become a Jedi Knight and defeat Darth Federer and secure the Light Side of the Force. Only the Sith deal in absolutes.
Darth Vaderer is looking unstoppable right now.

Yeah but can Shaps get all the boot-ay that Grigolo gets by the bucketload? Grigolo is considered a GOD on the beach I've heard. If his tennis career fails, he can always try a 2nd career: Grigolo the Gigolo.

Probably soon but I dont think people should expect some kind of Sampras Federer remake.Probably it will be easy win for Roger
Yep. All the strengths on show by Shapavalop against the likes of Nadal and Tsonga last year are the type which have barely ever bothered Federer. He is too crafty and can push those sort of opponents to overplay and implode.

Fed will beat him 6-3 6-2. It'll be entertaining and probably closer than the scoreline but Shapo's whole 'give the opponent numerous break point opportunities' tendency won't work against Roger.
Yeah he needs to improve his returning to hang with Roger but I’m sure he will in time.

They'll next bump into each other in the men's room when Fed comes over for a talk.

Shap seems like one of those guys that piddles in the Dyson.

Why is this match so hyped?

Shapovalov is gonna win like 20% of return points, Federer about 30%, Shapo is never gonna break while Federer will break anywhere between 1 and 3 times and win be 80% sure to win any tieabreak.

And if I'm overestimating anyone here, I'm overestimating Shapovalov.

It's like Federer-Dimitrov, except Shapo serves better, returns worse and defends worse.

Federer against someone who plays similar isn't gonna be a close match. Cause Federer will beat them at his own game while enjoying the landscape and force the other dude to counterpunch against the game against which you can barely counterpunch.

Pretty much this, at least for now. Fed will likely cruise on serve and win relatively dominant sets with tight scorelines.

Only thing I'd change is adjust the return points won somewhat upward. Denis wins 66% of serve points against your average top 50 player, so I don't see him clearly outperforming that against Fed. Even against a redlining Kyrgios at last year's Miami*, Fed won 33.1% of RPW. I'd expect him to hit the 35% mark against a well-playing Shap, or some percentage points above that if things get ugly. Lefty factor could be interesting though; Denis brings more heat than Nadal (then again, so does Lopez, and it hasn't helped him).

Yeah I haven't really gotten the %points won and the general amount of %breaking that coincides with down. (except for 50% points is roughly 50% breaking hehe)

Yeah Lopez is the best comparison as to serving for Shapovalov.

is that what you guy call a blowjob ?...

Quite right.

The Dyson is meant only for a handjob o_O

Young Shap seems like the kind of excitable chap that would need someone to point out the delicate difference.

Shapo is only 18.
He can only improve and when he does I’m sure he’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

The sad thing is because of the huge age differential, by the time Shaps enters his prime Fedr will be retired. We'll never get to see prime Fed vs prime Shaps, oh well such is life.

Now here's the one young guy that I wouldn't mind seeing Federer lose to. Federer wants this match. He said so in Montreal last year. I don't want him to lose, but I could accept it if its Shapo.

I think that Shapo will face Shapo sometime this year. Shapo is becoming a very solid hard court player. I think he'll face Federer sometime during the sunshine double. If not, then by the end of the year for sure.

Shapovalov already beat Nadal in Montreal. It would be amazing if he beat Federer too, even though I am a Fed fan. I guess if Federer has to lose to somebody, then it might as well be Shapovalov. I really like this kid. I would love to see a youngster step up big for a change.

With that being said, I don't give Shapovalov much of chance against an in-form Federer. Federer has too much variety. He'll need to face the Montreal version of Federer where he was serving 90 mph 1st serves by the end of the 2nd set.

Aesthetic comes first -- this guy simply lacks the rhythm of Fedr and Dimi imho.

Yes, he's much more forceful and doesn't have the same elegant strokes (outside of the serve). His forehand in particular isn't even remotely similar and probably more technically similar to Wawrinka than Dimitrov/Fed.

Still, he has an explosive game and the single-hander, so I have not trouble seeing why he gets the hype.

2019 Wimbledon. A 21 year old Shapo beats Federer in Wimbledon R4 ending Federer's dream of winning a 10th Wimbledon trophy (he loses in QF to Kyle Edmund-a Brit who in turn loses to the eventual champion Tomas Berdych-a sentimental crowd favorite in the final, who finally gets a last Wimbledon title to go along with his solid career). Then from 2021 to 2024, goes on to win 11 slams.

History repeats itself almost 2 decades later :) Tennis is exciting once again.
