When your shoes are too wide

Any tips for adjusting shoes that are a bit too wide? I have been wearing Barricades for the past few years, and I bought the Barricade 3 only to discover that it's quite a bit wider (for me) in the heel/ankle area. I use orthotics, I wear Thorlos, and those usually take up extra room, but not enough this time.

I have laced the shoes more tightly, but I have a high instep, so lacing them super tight makes my toes go numb because it cuts off that vein on top of my foot. I also added a pad on the bottom, under the orthotic, but that didn't seem to work because it just put my foot higher out of the shoe. So then I cut the pad down to where it is just under my forefoot and put a pad in my heel (on the shoe upper). That seemed to work, but when I started playing, it packed out again.

I'm determined to make these work, since I love the support and durability -- well, mainly because I already paid $105 plus shipping, PLUS another $20 in inserts and pads to fit them. Any other tips, besides selling them on ****??

Have you tried wearing double socks?

Gosh, I already wear Thorlos, which are very thick. I don't think I could double up on Thorlos; that would be too bulky. And I don't have any other thinner socks, and I don't really want to buy some if I am not going to use them. But maybe I'll try ...

Wearing two Thorlos would be insane! Don't try that, it would be impossible to move around. :)

I usually wear a really thin cotton ankle sock first and then wear the thicker one on top if the shoe is really wide.
