Where is Federer right now?

He can do it himself
Just needs to be clutch like wtf19
That match was on indoor hard and a smaller court, the AO is generally played outdoor and in a far bigger court which allows Djokovic to move better and cover more court. Federer hasn't beaten Djokovic at the AO since 2008, since Djokovic dominates him 3-0 at the AO since 2008.

I would be really impressed if Federer defeats Novak at the AO.

Both recent years form and history of the rivalry (Nadal is 6-1 against Djokovic at RG) suggests that he will be the favorite if he meets Djokovic there in the future. Can’t be said about Federer.
Plus Rafa has won his last 3 meetings with Djokovic on clay :)
2017 Madrid = Rafa 62 64
2018 Rome = Rafa 76(4) 63
2019 Rome = Rafa 60 46 61 (first bagel in the history of their rivalry)

Federer, the GOAT, is no doubt luxuriating in a penthouse suite somewhere - while servants cater to his every whim. Yea, as we speak, a grape is being dangled into his mouth, and nubile wenches stand over him with fans.

Ah, it’s a GOAT’s life for some.

So be it.
His last weeks of GOAThood.
Just joking, I never considered Fed the goat to begin with :)

Don't tell me that fresh novak wouldn't be defeated. Yes he would not have eaten bagel, but nadal would have taken him down

So what? Federer should've won many of those matches. USO2010, USO2011, Wimby 2019....he had MPs in all of them. Even at USO2015...he was 4/23 in BPs. It's clear Federer is more than good enough to win. Bad luck for him that he can't seem to cross that final hurdle. And besides, Rafa is 0-13 or something against Novak on hardcourts since 2013. Pretty rubbish stat there.

Oh, the old ' on HC ' stat. Seemingly the only thing people can mention when discussing things against Nadal.

Whats even more alarming, is that Fed hasn't beaten Nadal 'on clay ' in over 10 years.

We can all use these stats with best/worse surface cherry picking.

i like to think he is training his backhand return for 2nd serves instead of his dink return and hoping opponent makes an error.

also he already had his "revenge" against djoker. there last match against each other was federer winning.. however it'll never fix the hole in his heart of the wimbledon loss.
Federer doesn't seem as bothered by it as his fans it seems. Dude is playing exhos for multi millions of dollars and is on course to take his earnings past the $100 mill per year mark according to Forbes. Maybe that's gratifying enough for him.

Holding his cards close to his chest before shocking the tennis world in the coming weeks.

Waiting in the brush for his prey.

It will be glorious.

I'd be as well..
Post resurgence djokovic has not looked convincing to me since AO19 final

Concerning "wtf happened": Did you watch WTF? ;)

Also rewatch some other of their last matches (especially Wimbledon) and tell me who was the better player. But WTF expelled the demons of choking I guess.

If anyone of the 2 needs to avoid the other just right now, I don’t think it’s Federer.

Lol delusional fans like this make me embarrassed to be a Fed fan

I would not bring 2015 USO because:
- federer got killed there considering circumstances (cool NY fans) and all the hype before that match
- NOVAK was up double break in the 4th set
- federer never had a chance in spite of all those break points.
- it was a very clean win for Novak especially toying with his SABR crap he was trying to do

It's too bad Federer beat Stan in the semis. Would've had ourselves a Stanimal/Djokovic final. Would've been Stanimal in 4.

You write like the SABR was some laughable delusion of grandeur, but it had been effective in the recent past, including against Novak at times. He just did a decent job of handling it this time. Also, your third bullet reads quite bizarrely. Unless you're suggesting Novak was unplayable in 85% of break points?

That's why I consider that Novak hurt Fed more than Nadal did.

No doubt. Djokovic has been lucky to face older Federer in many slam finals, although Federer should have won at least W19.

Nadal has only met Fedovic twice in slam finals since 2017, and has lost both times. Has won the other 5 times he got the chance, though. And they couldn't reach him.

It's a too common misconception that Nole "toyed" with Federer's SABR at the 2015 USO. Federer won 4 of 6 SABR points.
Nole had a successful lob and drew a volley error from Roger. Also, the SABR doesn't even have to work 50% of the time to be effective.
It's there to put doubt and pressure on the opponent's second serve, and the terror caused by it can even cause double faults.
Having the full match at my disposal, I reviewed the match for SABR usage.

1st set - No SABR attempts

2nd set - Djokovic won 1st set 6-4
1. Djokovic serving at 0-1 0-0. Federer with a SABR return winner off the back line. SABR[Federer 1 - 0 Djokovic]
2. Djokovic serving at 1-2 15-0. Federer with a SABR to Novak backhand and Novak with a brilliant cross court lob winner. SABR[Federer 1 - 1 Djokovic]
3rd set - Federer won 2nd set 7-5
3. Djokovic serving at 0-1 15-15. Federer with a SABR down the line, Djokovic overcooks the pass long. SABR[Federer 2 - 1 Djokovic]
4. Djokovic serving at 0-1 15-30. Federer with a SABR cross court, Djokovic hits back cross for a Federer backhand volley that goes just past the service line to Novak's forehand, then Novak tries to pass Federer cross court and Federer nets the volley. SABR[Federer 2 - 2 Djokovic]

Djokovic serving at 2-1 serves 2 double faults, the second especially nervy probably thinking of or fearing the SABR, and gets broken.

5. Djokovic serving at 2-3, 0-15. Federer comes in on the SABR, Novak taking a peek, double faults. SABR[Federer 3 - 2 Djokovic]

3rd set - No SABR attempts

4th set -
6. Djokovic serving at 5-2, 15-15. Federer with a SABR return to Novak's backhand. Novak goes cross court to Federer volley to Novak's forehand, and Djokovic returns up weakly and Federer puts away overhead. Federer has his 4th and last break. SABR[Federer 4 - 2 Djokovic]

I wouldn't call a 2-4 outcome from Novak toying with Roger's SABR.
However, it didn't matter a whole lot. Roger wasted so many break point chances and made too many errors on the forehand side to be able to win this match, though it was still highly in doubt till the 3rd set when Federer lost a big opportunity to break leading 4-3, then lost the next 5 games.
