Where the heck did this girl come from

Everyone keeps talking about Djokovic and the mens side, but really, it almost pales in comparision to this crazy revelation on the womens side. Where in the heck did this girl from. Out of nowhere, she is amazing. And you know who I am referring to. Maybe the best thing to hit the womens game in so long.

You think about all the work that thousands of pros have put in over the years, all desperately hoping to win a slam in their careers.

Meanwhile this teenager rocks up to New York and wins one as a qualifier without even dropping a set on just her 2nd attempt, smh.

Says a lot about the state of women's tennis in the past decade. Nothing but random results because the level is so bad.

Are you talking about biology, her place of birth, or the chosen country of representation by her parents?

This is what I want in my pro tennis. Stop telling me how they're inexperienced at 18, still need more time to improve at 22/24/26/28...
If you've got the ability to win a slam, you've already got it at 18.
Not in the men's game, at the best of 5, given how much more physical the game is compared to a few years ago. The immense majority of men will reach physical maturity in their erly 20's.

None of this makes any sense. They each made their own decisions. Is that your earth-shattering point?

Canadian Tennis cut funding to Fernandez & wanted nothing to do with her. Her success is solely due to her strong family support/self-belief.
Rdcu left Canada as a kid, the way Shapovolov left Israel as a kid.

In her first major appearance at 2021 Wimbledon as a WC after not playing for the whole year 2020 due to the pandemic and for completing her high school (with straight A), she ran to R4. If it were not the panic attack / hyperventilation or whatever, who know the outcome of that match would be because she was going toe to toe with Tomljanovic before the incident.

The main feature of these 2 girls is their coolness under pressure. They are non plussed by the pressure situations that see the rest just fold/implode/blubber/melt/choke.
lmao.. what a cheap talk this is.
Osaka during her first finals slams also had that labelled "coolness under pressure", yet here she his.. add to the fact, she never lost a slams finals.
Coolness under pressure is the same thing as mental this and that.. just a buzz word throw left and right.

Trailing 4-6 0-3 is not "going toe-to-toe" in my book.

Odd, that's what I keep saying about the men's game. Bunch of mid 30 year olds are STILL dominating after 15+ years. The ATP even gave their young a special participation tournament to play in because they can't win anything. The WTA don't need that little pacifier.

The next ATP stars will be from the attrition-gen, they sure as all get out didn't step up and take it.

Exactly, but all I see in comments on youtube videos and elsewhere when someone wins a tournament is "she will go on to win many more tournaments and have a great career, I'm so pleased for her, she is a credit to the game, there is a great future for women's tennis yada yada yada". They must be completely ignorant of the state of women's tennis.

Look at the ages of these greats: Sharapova, Serena, Venus, Hingus, Selas, Austin, Evert, Graf, etc... all around the same age as Emma.

Yep, the whole "34 is the new 24" narrative is BS. Djokovic is insanely good for 34, and the NextGen are insanely bad for an ascendant generation of 24-y/o.

Kinda reminds me of another female tennis rivalry.

Chris & Martina
In what way? They played one match!! And Chrissy and martina’s rivalry was so good because they played so many times and have completely contrasting game styles not just a left and right

This is her 2nd grand slam. Something doesn't look right. She has to be taking something.

One plays off the crowd energy and the other plays with a poker face, showing no emotion. That is all

That’s where it ends. Navratilova and evert was like McEnroe Borg. A lefty net rusher against an ice cold baseliner

I guess you didn't watch the match. The panic attack happened at 4-5 1st set and Emma was serving at deuce. The ball was a long rally and Emma couldn't catch her breath at the end and so adv for Tomljanovic. The following balls were just the result of the panic attack when Emma was barely moving and there was no pace in her shots at all. So she lost the first set and the following 3 games before MTO and retired.

Considering 2021 Wimbledon is her first major appearance and her expectation was 1st round as in an interview. So no preparation at the time especially when she was alone in the bubble.

It's a record-breaking feat. Before Raducanu, the shortest number of slam appearances before winning one was 4, tied by Seles and Andreescu.

This might be true if Radacanu's win is random, but I don't see how anyone who's watched her play and dominate this tournament could conclude she won by luck instead of skill.

I mean the WTA IS in fact doo doo now, but still doesn't take anything away from this amazing feat by Radacanu. Just incredible, to come in almost as a 1st time, a qualifier, and win the tournament by destroying everyone, including some legit quality enough opponents, even with the abysmal state of the current WTA.

Why is this endorsement thingy so important for you?
Are you from the USA?
Did I say it was important to me? How will her endorsements have any affect on me?

I simply stated that her star power and charisma will attract a lot of endorsement contracts. Is that a criminal observation? Are you not allowed to talk about earning a living in your socialist, leftist utopia? Oh, I forgot, the state takes all your earnings and gives you the same monthly stipend that everyone else gets. Great system!

I touched a nerve....
But that seems so important for many Americans, how much endorsement money a sports person makes. Not criminal, but simply not classy.
BTW, I don't live in a socialist country, thank God.

At TTW, the WTA sucks because too many young players are winning Slams. The ATP in contrast sucks because the young players are not winning Slams. I don’t know what it will take for people here to appreciate the solid tennis being played.
Most posters here suck, big time.
