Does anyone know were to buy tennis racquets in Hong Kong or Shanghai? I am looking for pretty good deals, but do not want to worry if it is a fake. Do any have good reputations?
Thanks.

I was in Shanghai this summer. Tennis racquets there are about twice as expensive as they are in the US. I don't know about Hong Kong.

Don't buy racquets in malls. The market price of LM Prestige is about $110 in Shanghai. $75 for Dunlop 100G, $130 for n90, $125 for DNX10......

Although I did not live in Shanghai in recent years, as a local resident of Shanghai for over 20 years I can still offer you some suggestions that I believe still hold true in general. Go to a tennis club or any department store and authenticity is not a concern (well, actually i dont think you can get a racquet elsewhere). As to the price, lethalfang's comment didnt surprise me at all. Prices of sporting goods/clothing/electronics are uaully higher than the same brand/model in the US. During the time of Formula 1 Shanghai in October, F1/Ferrari polo shirts went for 1500-2000 RMB (which converts to 190-250 USD); while the same shirts sold in the US are about 50-80 USD, hehe.

If you want a better deal, Hongkong is definately the place to check out. Because of import tax reasons, same item is usually more expensive in Shanghai by quite a bit.

As far as brand, we were (and I still am) more obsessed with Wilson and Head than other brands hehe.

Good luck ^_^

In Hong Kong you need to go to the backstreets of Mong Kok and Jordan. There's a whole 'sports street' back there selling sneaks and equipment. Stuff is genuine (certainly rackets will definitely be). Prices are cheap. The street you want, if I remember correctly, are Fa Yuen St and Sai Yee St.

Go here (http://www.centamap.com/cent/index.htm) and enter 旺角 on the search box on the left and click on one of the MTR links. You should be able to see Fa Yuen St on the right of the map.

There's also a good tennis shop in Causeway Bay, but it's hard to describe its location. It's under one of the circular walkways that go over the street.

Good luck. Remember, bargain like a *****.

are they stolen goods?

Those in MongKok Fa Yuen Street are mostly selling fashion runners. Even those they do carry some racquets, but the price is still on the highside. I give you couple suggestions, on the following Pro-Shop.

Master Gear in Causeway Bay (Island side):
Owner: Tim (USRSA Certified Stringer)
Unit1301, 13/F., Richmond Plaza, 498 Lockhart Road, CWB, Hong Kong

Master Racquet Service in MongKok (Kowloon Side)
Owner: Hill (Certified Stringer, Master Racquet Technican)
1/F., 660 Nathan Road, MongKok, Kowloon.

Hope this help.

For Hong Kong, there are a few good shops at around the Victoria Park tennis courts... if you're taking the MTR (subway), get off at the Tin Hau station and use the Electric Road exit... look around, as there are around 3 shops, or just follow the guys with the tennis ball hoppers...

another one is called Wah Sang (walking distance from the Victoria Park courts)... using Centamap as indicated by sypl, enter 'lok sing centre'... this is a small shop with a great collection, however, the guy there is sometimes a little hard to deal with...

good luck...
