Djokovic- 7
Federer- 4
Stan- 2
Berdych- 1
Murray- 3
Gasquet- 1

6 names, not really diverse. I know everyone is all about that big 4 life but i'm not so here's some matches i'd like added.

Hewitt v Nieminen Wimbledon 1R
Hewitt v Tomic US Open 2R
Tomic v Kokkinakis French Open 2R
Kokkinakis v Gulbis AO 1R
All these matches had match points saved i'm pretty sure and they were all 5 setters, now that's a good match when someone can turn it around!

Fognini Nadal US Open
Nishikori v Paire US Open
will edit as more come to mind

Paire vs Nishikori Tokyo
Nishikori vs Raonic Brisbane

That's enough for now...

Djokovic vs Anderson Wimbledon
Paire vs Nishikori Tokyo
Hewitt v Tomic US Open 2R
These should definitely be included, thanks.
For best matches of the year, the stake should be high. I'll probably stay with 4R/quarters or better for GS, semi or better for ATP 1000/WTF, and finals for other tournaments. Hewitt v Tomic US Open 2R deserves an exception. Plus, both players should play well to make a great match.

Well, the poll only allows 10 matches to be listed.
Share your selection of the best match of 2015. What's great about it?

This year really wasn't high quality match-wise, blunt but devastatingly true, most matches felt like a formality instead of exciting tennis.

Mention to Tomic-Gasquet in Shanghai, that was an exciting match, especially at the end

An important match very much undecided until late in a fifth set? Wawrinka vs Gasquet QF at Wimby gets my top vote, followed closely by Nadal vs Fognini 4R USO.

Just as they had at Roland Garros in 2013, Gasquet vs Wawrinka at Wimbledon made me wish they would meet again in a big match, no matter who won. Few other matches had that effect. It was also a nice sequel to their 2013 match, which went deep into the 5th with Stan winning. It's not quite a "rivalry" in the sense that we talk about those things, but it's certainly a beautiful match-up that tennis gods have deprived us of far too often.

I don't understand how a pretty easy straight set match (Murray v Fed SF) has 12 votes? Some people just stick to the big names, I found the Tomic v Hewitt match much more appealing and nailbiting with match points saved. I don't know how a straight sets match can be one of the best of the year. Yes Fed played well but it's a boring SF with straight sets... A great match is when both players are in it and have a shot, Murray didn't look like that in the Wimb SF. Hewitt did against Tomic, Djoko did against Stan..

Voted by TT people.
1. French Open, FINAL, Wawrinka d. Djokovic 46 64 63 64
As a Novak fan, I still find it hard to believe that Novak lost this one.

2. US Open, R4, Fognini d. Nadal 36 46 64 63 64
A match not as straightforward as the scores suggest. If FF can improve on his serve, he may win GS someday.

3a.
Wimbledon, QUARTER, Gasquet d. Wawrinka 64 46 36 64 11-9
Someone on Youtube called this "backhand porn". :D

3b. Wimbledon, SEMI, Federer d. Murray 75 75 64

5. French Open, SEMI, Djokovic d. Murray 63 63 57 57 61

Federer Murray straight sets Wimbledon and Murray Goffin straight sets DC make top 10? Some people are just insane. Sure the matches were important and showed great skill but they were nowhere near the best matches of the year. Weak

These are some mediocre matches to choose from. Compared to 2007-2012 when we had some epic matches 2015 looks pretty poor.

Name better matches that actually had some significance.

I never saw the word significance in the original post or on the ATP site?? Please do enlighten me though.

And I thoroughly enjoyed Hewitt v Nieminen at Wimbledon which was significant for those 2 players as it was both their last Wimbledon (Hewitt being a past champion)
Also Tomic v Hewitt at US Open. Hewitt's last US Open and faced a rising Aussie start. Kind of like handing the torch over.

Both matches were 5 setters and had match points saved i'm pretty sure.
Much more fun to watch than a boring straight sets win by Fed over Murray :)

I didn't think there were that many great matches this year. By far the most interesting, the most exciting and most unexpected result was the FO final. I was convinced Stanimal would choke or "go off the boil," as Fred Stolle says.

He didn't. He maintained his laser-like focus and thoroughly outplayed a dominant #1 player and heavy favorite.

Not historically a great match, but it was sure exciting to see Stan hit his BH off the charts that day. His reaction when winning was totally classy, and Novak's grace when losing was really memorable.

Thank you OP for this thread. I now have my video viewing list for the holidays! I missed so many of these matches.

Have a wonderful holiday season everyone!

Montreal, the Real Slam, and US Open finals all were high drama and had a lot of interest. Ditto Fed v. Djoker at WTF (twice.) The Kyrgios win over Fed with tiebreaker was pretty amazing. The Djoker French quarters onward were all tectonic events that upset the order of things (Murray cemented Clayray status in my mind in that semifinal.)

Best does not have to be close. Murray beating Nadal to win Madrid was a major event. Thiem's 3 clay court wins also stand out and will make him a real dark horse threat in all of next year's major clay events.

Of course my favorite is Murray sending Berdych and Vallvedu packing in the Australian Open semi-final. Berdych and the evil eye to Murray, the remark by Berdych after winning first set, and the 6-0 drubbing delivered by the Muzziah in the second. Its never that exciting on the court with Berdy, but nothing like the spectacle of another episode of the Berdych antics and outfits.

Can I stretch the rules, or rather expectations, a bit??

I think this video has some very compelling ATP matches (as opposed to just one match) from this year...

Admittedly, it is of Felix Auger Aliassime, from earlier this year, when he was just 14. But...it was from ATP (Challenger) matches. My Christmas present to you. Enjoy. (I hadn't watched this video in a while, but thoroughly enjoyed it yet again.)

Inserting Federer-Murray Wimbledon 2015 just for the sheer quality of the performance, if not for the competitiveness of the match.

Looks like this kid lost the last match in the video. Must have committed many errors.
