Which colleges have YOU been accepted to?

I'm really torn between NYU and UVA right now. I won't have any regrets going to UVA, but studying in a metropolitan landscape, sipping coffee while writing my research paper at the Starbucks on 32nd and Broadway would be a dream! Plus, I'll probably have better internship opportunities at NYU.

This might all just literally come down to a coin flip.

Those are pretty different schools. I don't see why it would go to a coin flip. Both are solid and you will have all the opportunities you would ever need at either. If its really as close as you say than go to UVA and save yourself a ton of money since your in state.

I went to Stanford in the 90s. Getting a high GPA as a pre-med is not impossible there, but you'll need to focus and study your *** off. (I didn't) Most med schools won't consider you unless you have 3.5. The average student who gets a 3.5 at stanford or harvard would have a 4.0 at a state school. (I know because I took some undergrad classes at UW). You have to realize that someone who is top 10 percentile at UW, USC, or UCLA would probably be only 50 percentile at harvard or stanford.

The bottom line is that going to Stanford or Harvard doesn't necessarily make it easier to go to med school, but having a degree from stanford or harvard pays off in many other ways. It gives you a stamp of validation on your resume. If you get in, don't pass it up! It's a ticket to a better life.

What if you went Ivy League for grad (med) school? Will that hold a similar stamp of validation?

Blah, I too got rejected at Stanford. On the bright side, likely letter to Duke :)

It's okay man, you got into some other schools.

I've been talking to a person from UIC GPPA and I could possibly go to a diff. med school than UIC, so who knows, I may just try to go to an Ivy League med school!

Graduate school is where the quality of the program really takes effect if your going for premed. I wouldn't stress over undergrad. You can go to any med school from any public university if you work hard. No need to go to harvard but if you get in / have the funds than go for it. Can only help you. But the fact is learning basic bio is the same regardless of where you go.

Also going to X university for undergrad because you wan't to go to med school there doesn't really help your chances in public universities.

What travleraj said regarding gpa and med school isn't quite accurate. You don't need a 3.5. Im going to med school and I have a couple friends with "low" gpa's who are also going.

Depends on the school but in general I would say yes. Do good anywhere and you will have a chance though. Another thing you might want to think about is being in the same place for so long. Med school is a pretty big change and its kind of cool to move to a new atmosphere. At least for me.

Glad to know I am not the only Stanford reject. So far, accepted to UW+honors, rejected by Stanford, waiting on Rice and Princeton. I will probably not take Rice over UW at this point because of the availability of bioengineering/related internships and jobs in the Seattle area, so I've pretty much ruled it out. Princeton would be very hard to turn down considering I qualify for paid tuition+housing based on my family's income.

I cannot wait to finally know what I am doing next year, but I am sure that knowledge is going to strike me with a bad case of senioritis.

Sorry dave. This year's been such a crapshoot- so many of my friends have been rejected or waitlisted at schools they should have gotten into...

I only wanted to go to one spot. I applied there and that's where I was accepted. THE University of Texas at Austin.

Hell yes! Though I did apply to aTm as a backup just in case. But as soon as I got into UT it was a done deal.

Well, today was one hell of a bad day. I'm in Dartmouth and Cornell, rejected at Yale. And I'm waitlisted at FOUR school... Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, and Wharton. How the heck does that happen?!

i was dominated today :( rejected at brown, cornell, dartmouth, wharton, waitlisted at yale, harvard, columbia, princeton.

it is rather ironic of where i was waitlisted vs. rejected lol

Don't sweat it guys. Those are real tough schools anyways. What exactly is waitlisting anyways?

And that's a sick april fool's joke

Waitlist is a limbo. Colleges accept more people than they have slots for, knowing that some people won't go. They estimate how many people won't, and if they don't have enough to fill their class, they accept people on the waitlist.

Damn, you guys applied to a lot of schools. I remember I applied to only 2 schools when I was in your position (Stanford & UIUC).

Keep your heads up guys, and remember that after your first job no one really cares what school you went to.

I was thinking the same thing. One 'want to get in' and one backup.

Congrats to all. To add to Lakoste, study hard, make friends (they may be the guys/girls you make your first million with!), don't get wrapped up in the BS - keep your eye on the prize ==> degree (in the least # of yrs possible!).

No one applied to Lehigh? Anyone even hear of it?

I'm going to Saint Joseph's or Bentley next year. Should be fun since I'm going to play varsity tennis for one of them

And how good is UCLA?

I applied to UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Merced, and United States Air Force Academy. Got into Merced and still waiting on USAFA.

Applied to UC: Berkeley, LA, San Diego, Davis, Santa Barbara. Georgia Institute of Technology, Santa Clara University, and Northern Arizona University.

Rejected from Berkeley  and LA. Waitlisted for Davis. Got into the rest

Most likely going to UC San Diego for structural engineering. cheers. =)

Hey LanEvo, just curious but what school do you attend and where at? i wanted to get into LA so what major did you apply?
My GPA is a 4.15 and i'm rank about 80ish out of 755

To the guy that said something about Lehigh... I actually went to governor's school there this past summer. I was considering applying there since I really enjoyed my time there, but it just ended being a very expensive proposition and I didn't really have the time to slot it in with those other 16 schools :)

Well, they're not free by any means... and they probably cost more than Lehigh. But I knew that I had a decent shot of getting into a better school that would ultimately cost me the same amount of $$, so that was also a factor.

I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between Middlebury and BC Honors. I really liked BC a lot; I think it will make for a great college experience based on where it is, the people there, etc. I'm very attracted to it by the great location.

Middlebury seems to have stronger academics though, and its slightly higher prestige factor might mean better opportunities. It is a beautiful place, but I am not sure I will enjoy winters there though. Also, it is in the middle of nowhere basically.

I hope I get off a waitlist school and make it easier!

Texas A&M class of 2014 here. I'm doing the business honors program, it's a group of 84 top business students. Should be fun.

Got in both, chose UIUC. Don't regret the decision for a second and I feel like I wouldn't have been as successful had I went to Stanford.

I'm actually quite surprised these days when I see some kid's mind-blowing stats and they get rejected from top schools. It really seems like the competition has gotten a lot tougher. Oh well, I'm just glad to be done with that ****.

Urbana Champaign is a great school. My wife was interested in going there after her masters, but they are having major budget cuts in Illinois.

That's great, what did you major in/what do you do now?

My brother is going there this fall. He's majoring in Poly sci. It's honestly a tempting school, but i'm hoping to get some good financial aid from other schools. Also, since I want to do medicine, I'm trying the direct med at UIC (UIUC sister school). Plus, I heard a lot of people go to UIC's med school after studying MCB at UIUC.

Stanford is on my list too, but moreso a confidence thing. I'm not sure I want to go there because I keep hearing that there's no point spending $50000 a year on undergrad and then again at med school. Plus, keeping your gpa up there is supposedly difficult, making the med school entrance even tougher.

Did you get in at stanford? And where did you go to high school?
