Neil laid himself in Grosso's way to deny him a chance to score. He even raised his right shoulder. Grosso was in full speed on no way could have avoided to stumble. Had he tried to jump spiderman-like over the human barrier Neil had provided he (Grosso) would have fallen anyway. So he dutifully fell over Neil right away. In Germany we call Grosso's behaviour "decision help" for the ref. Doesn't chance anything that the PK was the right decision. Tough for Australia - but right.

Taken everything together the Ozzy team had their big share of luck because of very debatable ref decisions (Cahill foul on Takahashi at 1-1 against Japan, off-side eqalizer against Croatia, Materazzi being sent off). Thank the Lord for being allowed to play in the 2nd round and go home now.

Condi

what youre forgetting is that grosso had already got the ball around neill before he dived over him. he kicked the ball to the left of neill, but then ran straight into him. he couldve easily followed the ball by running around neill, but instead chose the soft option of diving over neill and appealing for a penalty, even though the ball was nowhere near him.

i fail to see how 6.9 billion people can be wrong on this 1, with the only people believing it was a penalty being you and the ref (and grosso but we know that dirty cheats just lying). maybe u think youre smarter than everyone else in this world? are you a genious? can we have your autograph?

If he had not decided to show us a gold medal dive, he would have cleared Neill by about a metre. Anyone who argues that fact has problems.

i do because they have a much stronger team. if both germany and argentina play well. argentina will win.

I don't think they have a "much" stronger team, even on paper.
They don't have a forward as dangerous as Klose.
They don't have a midfielder in the Ballack mould.
And where is the Lahm-type defender?
Granted, the Argentinians don't have crappy players like Friedrich, Metzelder and Mertesacker in their defense.

But don't underestimate the home crowd avantage.
If you follow the big European leagues closely you know that statistically the home team wins 3 times as much matches as the away team.
And this WC is in Germany. Germany has made 7 of the last 13 WC finals ....

I'd say Germany has a 60/40 chance to advance to the semis.

Anyone who says this has never played soccer. Even if he had tried to clear Neill he would have stumbled. There was no way for him to overcome this human obstacle called Neill. Which is exactly what Neill wanted. Neill didn't even try to play the ball.
The penalty was OK.

The vast majority of soccer experts on German and British TV thought the penalty decision was right. But stay in your fantasyland .....

"Fabio Grosso's theatrics may earn him a spot on Italy's diving team for Beijing 2008"

that news report sums it up.

oh and most of britain thinks it wasnt a penalty, except maybe the 1 channel u watched.

How on *Earth* can you keep saying that? Are you not aware of the rules - that the referees have to follow - that explicitly say that if you go into a situation with both feet first and with straight legs (which Materazzi did) then it's an automatic red card? Just because Matthäus apparently doesn't know this rule (which is new for this WC) doesn't make it right.

i agree with you, and i think condeleezza agrees because she hasnt bothered to reply to what you said.

condoleezza, i still disagree with everything your saying. that penalty was undeserved. once the italian player got by the australian, the australian didnt try to trip him, he turned his head. he had already slid, but he didnt stick himself up to trip the guy or stick up a hand. he did NOTHING. the italian, being italian, had the urge to dive, so he tripped over the australian. he couldve got past the australian and got a good chance to score, but he wouldnt do that cuz he probably cant score.

all said and done, the italians suck and were lucky to get through, but their luck will run out when they actually face a good team.

btw i apologize to any italian people on these boards who this may seem racial to :) because its not your fault that your country's soccer team are the best at diving and nothing else. and yes i know all countries and teams dive (like ghana did to get the penalty shot against the US), but the italians do it the MOST, and you CANT deny that

all said and done, time to get ready for ghana to send the brazilians packing

1-0 brazil. ronaldo breaks the record for most goals in the world cup by any player

such a stupid play by the last defender back from ghana, he was so far back that he screwed up the whole offside trap, and he was closer to the sideline too, so its not like he could stop the play. what the **** was he thinking dammet :(

haha adriano, what an idiot. 2 on 0 after a nice through ball, tries to deke the goalie instead of passing to ronaldo for an easy goal, can't do it, then dives, and gets a yellow card

reminds me of 1 italian player by the name of grosso about 24 hours ago, but he got a penalty not a yellow card.

lol lucky Brazilians - it was off-side and totally undeserved, (and Adriano of all  ) this 2nd goal - what a joke and I really feel sad for Ghana!

another bad decision by the refs. clear offside by brazil but the goal is awarded

It was offside but not "clear" offside!
And when a ref isn't 100 % sure he is supposed to let the ball roll.

lol - other decisions where called off-sides, while they were clearly not off-side e.g. in the first minute with Ronaldo and the ref was sure on that?!
It's just bad "reffing" plain and simple...

wow your very annoying, calling people "morons". brilliant!

anyways, i get the idea that your probably related to a ref of the world cup, because you defend them like crazy, when you know your wrong

it shouldnt even have to be clear for the refs to see it. theyre professionals arent they? didnt u say that earlier?

yeah here it is:

"In most cases when you think, wow, now the ref was wrong, the slow motion replays will show that those pro refs were right. With today's fast game officiating is extremely difficult. Taken everything together the ref are doing a remarkably good job."

http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=106387

so according to u the refs are doing a great job but are excused when they make mistakes

oh and i have nothing against u, or germans, or italians in general. im just arguing a point
