Delpo was outright poor after the first, Berdych was never poor (y)
Please, he even had a second set point and made an unforced error.
:X3:
And it was known that the only way for Berdych to have a chance against the Swiss was to win the first set, he didn't and then it was a match, I already said it, one-sided.

Fed hit a winner on Berdych's set point I think? He did make a few UE's to put himself in a hole that game which was bad but from 15-40 I don't think there were any UE's in that game.

Like I said, if the last two sets of the Berdych match were one-sided then how would you describe the last three sets from Delpo when he won less games? Both matches are in the same ballpark.

On one side too, it's obvious.
Players below the Big 3 like JMDP and Berdych if they don't win the first set "they are cooked".
PS: On the second set point, the Czech made a backhand error.

Would've been clearly 17 had Cilic played properly in the final. As it stands, it's about even: past-prime Botnic and Birdie vs Chappy and Buratini. Federer was always in control of every match though, unlike Djokovic who relied on Shapolol choking.

Not really sure you're digging in so deep  Both draws were poor, I think the number of non poor draws since 2016 could almost be counted on one hand. Still...the USO was quite obviously worse, whether Berdych was slightly worse, equal or slightly better than Delpo, it doesn't really matter. The lack of a SF hurts but Cilic was obviously much better than anyone Nadal played.

Would be better to just own the fact the USO was a weak slam (y) The last three slams of 2017 were all terrible tbh.

I do not dispute it, only that there are staunch fans of certain players who do not understand that the tennis player's only job is to defeat whoever is in front of him and beat them in order to advance in rounds and being able to opt for the titles, in this case, the Majors.
The rest, the "fandom" wars do not interest me in the least.

I don't think W17 was weak Slam win. Federer played his best tennis since 2012 to steamroll tricky opponents. Put 2016 Federer there instead - he would be in trouble against Berd or Raonic.

2021 draw was softer in earlier rounds but turned out to have a tougher semi+final. Though I guess part of that is down to Djokovic who hardly hit the highest gear after the second round against Anderson. Federer to his credit was more convincing throughout his run.

Wim 15 Federer ~ Wim 17 Federer.

You quoted me first iirc. I was responding to someone calling Delpo better than anyone Fed played in 2018 - I do recognise that I may have overrated Berd a but though.
