I'm a 4.5 bordering the 5.0 break point, but i need some good training and tournament ready skills. Anybody have any suggestions on where to attend in the united states, preferably hard courts..thanks

What time of year?

I'd be tempted to say Saddlebrook - though they primarily use har-tru (green clay) - especially when it's hot during the summer.

You can ask to do hardcourts there in June (to train for a hardcourt tourney in early July). Be prepared to play in uncomfortable (hot and humid) conditions if so. Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it ;-)

I've played in Arizona in 108 degrees before against tough competition. It felt like playing on an oven. Playing @ Saddlebrook on hard-courts in 90 degree weather with 93% humidity is a wholly different experience - more like playing in a broiler set to a much higher temperature...

That said - if you can survive and do well in those conditions - you're well prepared for others.

Good Luck! K_I

Id go to Newk's Tennis Academy in South Texas. I went there one summer and had a blast.

The instruction is great and they have you all do some drills before they pair you with people of a similar skill level and send you off in your respective groups for instruction and drilling.

I got alot out of it...met some hot tennis playing girls too ;)

Newk's has 4 clay courts and either 5 or 6 hard courts for adults. They also have about 20 hard courts for the Academy kids. Newk's is good, but if you're a 5.0 player you're likely better than most of the teaching pro's there. Not saying they can't still teach you something. They may set up a match between you and some of the Academy kids to give you a good match. (And those kids would - they can flat out hit the ball!)
