Thanks for the replies. I had it strung at 58 at the local sports store. I just got my own stringer and strung it at 60. Seemed kind of like a board, so I think I may go back to 58, which seemed pretty good.
Anyone have suggestions on strings to try? I started out with Gamma Gut (what I used to play with as a junior), then tried a Gosen syn gut. Honestly didn't feel a big difference, but maybe just b/c it was strung really tightly.
Now I'm going to try Prince Gut, both with and without Duraflex (one on each racquet to compare).
Also planning to try NRG, which people here seem to like.
Let's see, it really depends. In terms of low cost, if you like touch and feel, I would go with any Syn. Gut. Prince syn. with duraflex seems to be a popular all around choice. Wilson extreme or stamina is another popular choice. If you want a little bit more feel, try Wilson sensation supreme. For like a dollar or two more, you may get a softer feel.
If you want something that last a little bit longer with a stiffer feel, go with poly's like Babolat ballistic or Kirschbaum honey. They are about the same price as regular syn. gut but last longer. on the down side, it is harsher on the arm and looses tension quickly. For a little bit more, you can try babolat pro hurricane or head ultra tour. A little bit softer, last just as long, but doesnt loose as much tension. This just cost around 3-7 dollar more, but i think it is worth it imho.
There are other strings that are in it's own league like Gamma TNT, Laser Fibre laser supreme, Wilson enduro tour, and such that seems to be in it's own league.
Just test it out and you will see what im talking about. GOOD LUCK!!!
p.s. even though you string a rqt at 58 lbs with one string doesnt mean that you can string 58 lbs with another. This is where you really have to experiment. For poly's i would string it either 2 lbs or so tighter despite what the string manufacturer suggest. Others may disagree, but you really have to test it out yourself.
