What would happen if a grape variety from one bank is planted in the other bank?
Idk they probably do this in small quantities but I'm shamelessly Italy > France for wine so I haven't bothered to educate myself on the nuances yet. I suppose I should probably do this at some point in the near future.

Left Bank or Right Bank?
I have no idea and I can't really choose because they only have so few brands of Bordeaux wine in my local shop.

Ok, I've just found out that the one I'm having now is from the Right Bank:

Jean-Pierre Moueix Bordeaux is a careful blend of wines produced on privileged hillside vineyard sites near the towns of Lussac Saint-Emilion and Castillon La Bataille on the Right Bank of Bordeaux.

Apparently Left Bank has higher tannins and higher acidity.. which I don't really like. Right Bank is more mellow / softer, which I like.

The Left bank is known as the more prestigious area, home to the Frist Growths and blended from prominently Cabernet Sauvignon with high tannins, high acidity, and powerful structure. Bold aromas and flavors of black cherry, violet, and menthol are common. The top wines have aging potential for 30+ years.

Yeah you described Merlot with your original words so I would have guessed it was Right Bank.

Was looking for any European red wine while arriving in Fiji. Glad I found one! I couldn't find any European wine in Australian airport duty free shop, so was happy to find one in Fiji airport duty free:

Bottega Acino d'Oro Chianti Classico Riserva 2020

Lovely, smooth, fruity, easy drinking wine. Oaky, cherry, berries, licorice, flowery aroma, hint of spices, cocoa, maybe a bit of tobacco aroma as well (not sure, I don't smoke lol, but definitely smokey).

I still prefer good Bordeaux wine though. But this is good wine too.

What red wine will you guys be drinking with the Thanksgiving feast? I’ll probably serve Priorat and Chateauneuf-du-Pape. We will probably drink Champagne and an Alsatian Riesling first. Have a happy holiday!
I've never had Thanksgiving celebration all my life. I don't know if I'll be celebrating it one day.

Pinot Noir + Lagrein + Merlot or Merlot/Cabernet + Schiava, with Chianti Classico in reserve if it sounds nice. Hosting my Thanksgiving late so haven't had them yet.

What are the primary distinguishing attributes of each of these?

  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Pinot Noir
  • Merlot
  • Syrah
  • Malbec
  • Zinfandel
  • Tempranillo
  • Rioja
  • Barbera

I found out that some certain red wine makes me sleep longer than other red wines. For example, when I drink Portuguese red wine Coutada Velha, it makes me sleep 1.5 hours longer than the Jean Pierre Moueix Bordeaux red wine.

I once had Sancho Garces Rioja tempranillo red wine for lunch, and I had like 6 hours of nap! It was shocking. I felt very energetic when I woke up though.

Is there a pattern to this?

Sub poll:
How old is your treasured oldest red wine bottle waiting to be opened?
Mine is a 1999 Felipe Rutini bought in the early 2000’s.
I saw it in a wine store about four years ago, and it had increased its price like 40 times compared to what I paid for it.
Now I don’t know if I will ever drink it.
Mine is a 1964 Charles Krug Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which I'll probably never open. Why now?

Drink it now or sell it and then buy more red wines. Yum.

OR,... Keep it until one day after the end of the world, and let the alien invaders from Uranus enjoy it.
Sorry. Although I'd wish to honor your petition, I will certainly have no control on any matters taking place during or after the end of the world, nor I will be able to attest the appearance of aliens or any kind of invaders in or from Uranus.

Yes, you do have control in these horrible circumstances. To escape the aliens, I want to remind you that under most famous tennis stadiums,
there are bomb proof tunnels and caves where you can hide. These unknown caves were built to store deluxe tournament Champagne.
Under strict Stadium rules, you will be allowed one bottle per day, or as a substitute, one cave-ripened box of Camembert cheese. Good Luck.
