Nadal is the defending champion. I think he can overtake Roger with a win here. Fox Sports starts coverage on Saturday.

If by overtake you mean take the number 1 ranking, then no he can't. He's much more likely to lose significant ground because of how last year played out.

I think Roger will lose in the early rounds again. He lost to a 35 yr old man, what is next ? Vince Spadea beats Roger Federer??

Yet another useless multiple choice poll. Why? There can be only one winner.

My vote is Djokovic.

Im going out on a limb here. I say Roddic will pull a Nalbandian and win again. I think he will not crash and burn till French.

Yeah! Nalbandian is 3-3 with Nadal in this poll... guess most Federer fans must be still asleep from the Sampras match last night.:)

I voted Federer; just because I think he'll come out focused and determined to make a statement here. I also said that about him in Dubai, so I'll probably be wrong again. :(

It's going to be very interesting to see how Fed handles this new found pressure. You know the tournament will be buzzing about his last couple of losses and how close Nadal is. So it will be good to see him in this situation for once.

Man Amer Delic has been getting screwed lately. Young and Isner get WC's but Delic has been playing better than either of them.

Anyway, I picked Roddick because I'm a pathetic fanboy.

I honestly have no idea about this tournament, I will null the vote and let it play out. Just sit back and watch the draw unfold is my best bet. :?

I get to the same result but in a slightly different way. Nadal to the finals. As to the 4th round. Both Nalbandian and Almagro have played well since the AO and will reverse the record of the past. Thats my guess.

I went with Nadal. We have no television coverage of the tournament so I hope you all will help out us poor saps with your usual entertaining commentary. *hint* ;)

Though Federer may still be hindered by his sickness, I think he will do well in IW. He has a pretty good draw, I reckon.

Hopefully Berdych and Baghdatis play well, too.

As for the other side... I think either Blake or Nadal will advance to the final. Well, I hope so anyway...

BAGHDATIS .. thats who i WANT to win .. i wish that guy would just get it together .. i THINK federer will win .. he's really gotta make a statement here and strike some fear back in the atp .. if he loses this mental edge .. it'll be come a lot harder to win day in and day out

fed is still the man to beat. i'm far from a fanboy of his so don't mistake this for a biased opinion, but it doesn't matter if he has won a title this year or not. yes, the others are beginning to close the gap on him, and yes there is more of a chance than ever that someone can actually take him out if he's not at his best, but until we see a huge slump, and by huge i mean catastrophic coria style, i think that fed would still be the favorite in every match that he goes into for a while unless its vs. nadal on the red stuff.

well my picks depend on the good murray and the good Nalbandian showing up. I f neither does then i think a tired Federer loses to Djokovic in the finals:

Finals
Djokovic d Nalbandian

Semis

Nalbandian d Murray
Djokovic d Blake

Quarters

Murray d Federer
Nalbandian d Hewitt
Djokovic d Baghdatis
Blake d Nadal

4

Federer d Tipsarevic
Murray d Roddick
Hewitt d Davydenko
Nalbandian d Ancic
Baghdatis d Ferrer
Djokovic d Canas
Blake d Soderling
Nadal d Mathieu

this is just a shot in the dark, like a said earlier if any of these guys have an off week and it could be another Federer-Nadal final

I voted for Federer assuming he's recovered from mono. I think he'll be out to prove something this tournament. And he's in line to face Roddick in the Quarterfinals, what better way to kick-start his season?

Fed might be able to win it. He has a motivation to show the world that he is still the man. If he faces Djokovic, he will try to dominate over him to make sure everything is still under his control.

But I would be surprised if he can win this thing as smoothly as usual....

I believe Federer holds the record winning streak in MS events with 29 matches, it lasted until the final of Monte Carlo 06 when he lost to Nadal.
Yeah, but he didn't win those in consecutive masters events. He won cincy in 05', then he skipped Madrid and Paris. If Nalbandian were to win IW it would be the first time a player has won 3 consecutive masters events. Unless you count the masters cup.

This poll is stupid because it's multiple choice. I think Federer have a chance to win it.
Thank you! I am glad somebody else noticed the fault in such polls. It really ruins the poll and the whole thread for that matter. If people would just use a little bit of brain when posting the polls it would be much better for everybody.

LOL!!!!

So you actually think Seppi will beat Novak for your scenario to happen. Oh and I am pretty sure Canas will not get to quarterfinals. Last spring was a total fluke for Canas. It will never happen again. Just like T. Johansson is not gonna will any more slams.

Uh, oh, big problem, Kevin Anderson is about to go down in the Qualies, Robin haase about to beat him. talk about a roller coaster ride in the ATP tour. and what is up with Scoville, he is in the 3rd set with Dusan Vemic, this guy is a career futures event tour guy, he can't even make into the main draw of the challenger events.

Scoville Jenkins goes down to Dusan Vemic, definitely the low point of his career. what is going on with him ?? he was playing andy Roddick at the US open few years back...

Small amount of upsets? As much as I admire your bravery, Federer losing to Almagro, Nalbandian losing to Johansson, and Guillermo Canas making the final is just too much.

^^^you are actually saying Almagro will beat federer ?? are you kidding ? Almagro is just not consistant enough to beat fed on any surface
