Which Matches had the most iconic atmospheres ?

All these Matches whenever I revisit them they have this distinct feel ,the atmosphere which in itself is a unique and important part of the match.

Like the clouded greyish day and then dark twilight of Wimbledon 2008 Final, the Rod laver arena of 2012 AO F Or AO 2009 F.

The football match like atmosphere of 2001 WB F Or One last battle feel of AO 2017.

The impatient crowd at WB 2013 and the open court feel of WB 2007 F.

Which one of these or someother other ones you think had iconic atmospheres?

Definition of iconic, feels straight out of a movie

The twilight and camera lights just give these moments that much more spiciness.

I think it depends on what you mean. Iconic in terms of look then the finish of the 08 and 00 mens Wimbledon finals are definitely right up there, and the open topped one in 2007 was pretty cool. Gladiatorial arena like.

In terms of crowd it's hard for me to pick anything but that 2001 Wimbledon final, though if you watch Davis Cup and Olympics you get a lot of crazy crowds like that or more so, they're just more partisan. I think the Argentine's made that Del Potro-Thiem USO 17 match pretty iconic, the Nadal-Del Potro Olympic semi in 2016 is another amazing one. Hewitt-Federer's famous Davis Cup match was quite something too.

Iconic in a bad way I'd have to give a shout out to the USO 2015 final. Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, and it extended beyond the crowd to the line callers. Asderaki and Djokovic deserve medals for that one.

I love the deep night atmosphere of this match. US crowd goes like "HOW DARE YOU TOUCH OUR GOD????". Oh, the punish. :D

The Friday part of Nadal vs Djokovic Wimbledon SF had amazing atmosphere. Wim’s Centre Court under the lights feels quite unusual, I wish they’d done more night matches like US Open, but the stupid curfew rule won’t let them.

Oh, also pretty cool when Monfils played Isner at the US Open and they were all rooting for Gael :-D That happens a lot to be fair. Isner's match there with Del Potro in 2018 the same thing happened.

This was plain AWESOME. I don't recall any match ending with this kinda atmosphere, beautiful!

Why can't we have more Wimbledon matches in these settings?!? I know it gets dark but still:X3:
It’s because people wanted a roof so badly we will never have matches like this in a slam ever again.

Never seen a match with that kind of drama ever. The tension building up through the rain delays, the challenge system conking out and darkness falling. It could've been almost scripted.

AO12 final was the greatest thing I've ever seen in tennis. The momentum kept swinging back and forth between them all 6 hours. You had no idea who was going to win until the last point. It was like a gladiator fight. Towards the end, the commentators just stopped talking and let Rafa and Nole tell the story with their superhuman tennis. And of course that unforgettable post match celebration which will never, ever be topped.

It was the Greatest Match Ever Played.

AO 17 had a great atmosphere in terms of how into it yet yet how well-mannered the crowd was.

but the Davis Cup matches had the best atmosphere.

They only time they faced off, great atmosphere, very Davis Cup like. Not too dissimilar to other South American players getting huge support at venues away from home. I remember Gasquet gave them the middle finger at one stage :-D One of the most entertaining matches I've seen.... My notes say there were 165 winners all up, only 25 of them being aces.

very entertaining match indeed :)

PS: the "sillazos" davis cup incident between argentina and chile was quite iconic as well!

This atmosphere (and definitely this lady) is iconic, surely.

Agree. This and Uso 15. The bad guy wins. The good guys dies. Evil triumphs. Audiences leave the cinema without talking to each others. They don't cry but their eyes are full of tears. Sad movies.

Hewitt-Federer's famous Davis Cup match was quite something too.

I wasn't there, but remember it well. After the match Hewitt said "This beats the hell out of winning Wimbledon".

For atmosphere, nothing beats some of the home and away Davis Cup ties.

Probably the most memorable match I ever attended atmosphere-wise was Hewitt v Federer in DC at the Royal Sydney Golf Club in 2011. It was late on a Friday afternoon, and the dappled light through the gum trees on an immaculate old-school grass court - soft and low-bouncing - was perfect. Hewitt lost in four, but he really turned back the clock in the first two sets and had Federer on the ropes.

The whole weekend was great, really - earlier in the day Tomic despatched Wawrinka tidily in singles. The next day Hewitt/Guccione beat Federer/Wawrinka in the doubles, which got all our hopes up - only for Hewitt to lose a heartbreaker of a five-setter to Stan in a live final singles rubber.

I was at the Davis Cup tie against Russia 12 years earlier. Lleyton was 17 or 18 and beat both Safin and Kafelnikov, who had previously said they were going to school him. No dappled light through gumtrees, they were all burnt to a crisp.
