Slams where the Big 3 beat at least one member on the way to a Slam

Federer
AO - 2
W - 3
USO - 2

Nadal
AO - 1
RG - 9
W - 1
USO - 2

Djokovic
AO - 6
RG - 1
W - 5
USO - 2

Which of these had the most impact on the Slam race and why?

In order of occurrence for me:

2012 WB
2013 USO
2014 WB
2017 AO
2018 WB
2019 WB
2020 RG
2021 RG

Although I'd include 2017,2019 USO for Nadal. Anything off RG for Rafa was and will be crucial to the slam race

I think for me it's 2017 AO, 2018 W, 2019 W, and 2021 RG in some order. It's still too early to know how impactful 2021 RG will be though. If Federer lost that 2017 AO match though, Nadal would caught 20 a long time ago and passed him. 2018 W was pivotal too because that would have set Djokovic back as he was trying to get back to the top of the game, and Nadal would kept the momentum he had. 2019 W, of course, goes without saying.

It's definitely the later slams that have the most impact, from AO 2017 to RG 2021. The losers of the earlier slams still went on to win that slam a few years later.

Well it was :D
lol I actually agreed with Becker on that particular point tbh. Any real GS win >>> a potential “weak era” Slam. Especially knowing what we know now about Nadal’s 2021.

Even though Djokovic looks like a favorite now there is still a large possibility he never wins another Slam. injuries, DQs, decline, another pandemic, etc could all happen

1. RG 2021: Djokovic presumably stopped Nadal from surpassing Federer and Djokovic got within 1 slam of Federer and Nadal for the first time in his career. All momentum with Djokovic
2. WB 2019: In retrospect, Djokovic would make Federer settle with a 20-20 tie with Nadal (for now). No one has gotten to 21 slams yet, and 21 slams would have been huge for Federer to maintain his claim as GOAT
3. RG 2020: Nadal tied Federer; worse slam loss of Djokovic's career.
4. AO 2017: Federer got the monkey off his back and finally beat Nadal in a slam again

What do we know about Nadal's 2021 that we didn't know in 2020?

If Novak wins 2013 French it changes a lot since Nadal loses a bunch of weeks at #1 and who knows how 2014 French goes for him. Fed might also win 2014 Wimbledon via butterfly effect. Nadal is then maybe at 18 or 19, Fed at 21 or 22.

It's just difficult with Fed & Rafa's 2017 resurgence, Novak's 2 year void and his resurgence.

All were big, as every such victory is a swing of two slams.
I'm leaning to, in some order, 2008 W, 2018 W, 2017 AO and 2009 AO - even if Rafa hit a bad stretch right after it.

2017 Aus Open final - Federer wins a slam again after 4.5 years, beats Nadal in a slam again for the first time since 2007 Wimbledon, extends the gap between him and Nadal to 4 (18-14 Federer)

2018 Wimbledon semifinal - Djokovic on a 2 year dry spell after winning 4 slams in a row between 2015 Wimbledon and 2016 French Open, suffering a loss in form, undergoing elbow surgery, Nadal was the better player but Djokovic's clutch serving in the 5th set really bailed him out and got him the win. Going into this slam, Nadal on 17, Djokovic on 12. Djokovic would go on to win this slam, US Open and Aus Open 2019.

2019 Wimbledon final - Had Federer converted one of those match points on his own serve, Federer 21, Djokovic 15. Instead it's Federer 20, Djokovic 16.

2021 French Open semifinal - Djokovic got destroyed by Nadal in the 2020 final, I thought Nadal would beat him again but Djokovic had other ideas. Djokovic closes the gap to 1 (closest he has ever been to either Federer or Nadal).

Bring on Wimbledon 2021 and US Open 2021 - would be nice to see 20-20-20 heading into US Open 2021.
