Which of the slamless players do you want most to win a slam? You can also include which slam(s) you think will be their best bet(s) in your replies. You can also vote for who you think is the most well-deserved if you aren't a fan of any of these players. This is surely gonna be a Fed/Nadalless thread as they have loads of slams to boot. :)

the candidates:

David Nalbandian: In my opinion the most deserved player to win a slam. Has been in all 4 slams SFs, got robbed in the 2003 US Open SF vs Roddick. A talented player with excellent feel for the ball and a blistering backhand, Fat Dave is up there with the best when he's on. Best bet: AO or USO IMO.

Soderling: Reached 2 straight FO finals and wiped out Nadal and Fed in the process. Great power off the ground on both sides with a blistering serve. Best bet: FO at the moment.

Murray: In my opinion the most consistent performer after Fed and Nadal in slams. Great defensive ablities and a well rounded game. Best bet: All but FO.

Davydenko: This guy is just a ball-striking machine. If he serves well he can be a serious threat to anybody on hardcourts. He is not as good as he used to be on clay and sucks on grass, though. Best bet: AO

Berdych: A great talent and seems like he's beginning to live up to his expectations by reaching FO SF and W F defeating Federer in the quarters. Interesting to see how he will fare in the slams to come. Best bet: I dunno, he's pretty unpredictable

Others: Verdasco is the only player in the top 10 without a slam who isn't mentioned above. Honestly though I don't think he has what it takes to win a slam so he is included in "others". Also vote for young talents and your favorite players here.

- He didn't deserve to win the US Open 2003 because he didn't win it, or even make it to the final.

- He didn't get robbed; he actually stopped playing and it was his fault he choked from 2-0 up. Roddick just his a huge serve out wide on match point down. Now if Roddick were to break into Nalbandian's house and steal the trophy, then you could say that Nalbandian got Robbed of the US Open. But he didn't.

- Fat Dave is not one of the elite when on. Just no. Even when 'on' Nalbandian can still lose (US open 2003/IW09). Oh don't tell me, his MC05 when he wasn't even a top 8 player and him managing to beat Federer who had an ankle injury gives him legendary status. By the way how many times a year is Nalbandian 'on'?

He never was slam champion material. You could give him Safin's BH as a replacement, Roddick's serve, Nadal's footwork, prime Federer's forehand and he would still lose. Just hasn't got the mentality to win a slam. Never managed to bring his best on the biggest stage and never will. Don't have a problem with his fitness (he's got a belly but oh well). Mental strength is the most important thing in any sport and without it you will never be a great player.

People say Nalbandian underachieved. How? Other than his BH, what else does he have. Average serve, ok forehand not special, poor mentality, ok net game but rarely came to the net in his prime. Nalbandian was never going to win a slam.

That's why he didn't. Most well-deserved differs from being able to. my remarks are just to spice things up.

I wanna see soderling beat a healthy nadal. I'm not saying he didn't deserve to be in the final last year, just that he hasn't convinced me that he can really take him on. Maybe in USO he will, but I doubt it.

Gasquet, it's a shame, for a player with such beauty in his game, his head and fitness are in complete tatters. Winning Wimbledon especially, would be nice.

Soderling.

never touted as a talented player. never thought of as a slam-winner, yet beat 2 of the best on slow clay. found himself in the FO finals back-to-back. deserves a big title.

Its very close between Murray and Nalbandian.
I would like both to win ... Nalby has perhaps less chances to do it than murray who has come close twice now only to falter in finals

Definitely Elena Dementieva!

On the men's side, I guess out of those mentionned here, David Nalbandian because he's older, the others still have time.

unfortunately "this guy" never fully recovered from his breakup with Zeenat. He has bouts of paranoia in which he imagines Federer is after his life. and is also trying to steal Nadal's 17 major trophies from Nadal's Trophy House.

I vote for Kolya !

Nalbandian and Murray. Nalbandian because for a long while he was considered the best player not to win a GS. Now, it's been shifted to Murray.

1. Nalbandian-One of my favorite players
2. Murray-because I feel sorry for him
3. Gasquet-it would be nice to see a 1-hander sides Fed winning a slam
4. Gonzo-Same reason as Gasquet
5. Davydenko-Because it would be nice

Nalbandian-Always one of my favorite players,but I
think this is now impossible task for him!Anyway I hope he will surprise us!

Murray-I'm sure he will get more then one!

Grigor Dimitrov-This sound a bit like dream, but will be very nice if bulgarian guy win somеday a slam!!And he is the only one who carries our hopes!Аиде Гришо!!

People shouldn't feel sorry for Murray. He will be winning many slam titles (and not just one), trust me, it is just a matter of time.

For the men, Verdasco. But Murray would be nice just to stop all the XX years since Perry yadda yadda yadda.

For the women, I have to go with Dementieva and Jankovic. They've been around too long not to have at least one. I thought Safina but she needs to get rid of that coach of hers first.

More love for Muzza the pusher than for Fat Dave the shotmaker? THIS IS BLASPHEMY!

I'm gonna continue the "BLASPHEMY!" :).

I'd like to see Murray win one the most. Followed by Fat Dave a close 2nd. It's also kinda rough that Soderling beat the defending French Open champ in back to back years and still has no French title to show for it. So Soderling would be my 3rd choice.

Kraggy & Sentinel ... ROFL ^2! You two guys (in addition to a couple of others) are definitely a reason I visit this forum more often than necessary! :)

Zeeshan is actually my first cousin.

Zeeshan Ali is a former India No. 1 tennis player. Strikingly handsome, he was known as much for his affair with Zeenat Aman as he was for his winning the national championships a few times :)
